Tonight!

This is probably a long shot, but I'm looking for information on Richie and Paddy Tarrant, who were Irish musicians who recorded a series of 78s with Frank Lee's Tara Ceilidh Band in the early 1930. The Tarrant brothers (fiddlers I believe) were born in East Dulwich in 1908 and 1910 respectively, were the nephews of Dinny Tarrant, a fiddle player from Ballydesmond (Kingwilliamstown), Co. Kerry. I'm a collector of old Irish Traditional Music on 78s, as well as trad musician myself, and have many records of Frank Lee's band. I was amazed got find out that two of the key players were from East Dulwich. As I say, it's probably a long shot, but perhaps there are family members or others still living here who know them? If so I'd love to find out more about them. Thanks.

Should be some treasures to be found! If you have any 78s lying around, bring them and we will add them to the mix. Or just sit back and enjoy the atmosphere of classic old records on wind up gramophones played in the Ivy House ballroom. It's free and everyone is welcome.

The Ivy House Gramophone Appreciation Society meets the first Monday of each month in the ballroom at The Ivy House pub, 40 Stuart Road, SE15 3BE from 7pm. This is an evening for people who love the sound of 78rpm records played on vintage wind up gramophones. Jazz. Blues. Rock and Roll. Rockabilly. Country. Opera. Big Band. Irish traditional. Popular vocalists. Weird stuff. We play it all. If you have some old 78s lying around in a cupboard, bring them along and we will happily play them in the mix. Or if you just love the atmosphere created when listening to old records, played on old machines, in a beautiful old ballroom, with a great choice of craft beers, you will enjoy the evening. I can second this recommendation. 1-2-3 did my chimney this morning. He was punctual and did a very thorough job, with a good clean up leaving no mess behind. He was also very helpful in explaining what he was doing as he went through the process, and offering advice on using the fireplace.
