Britain is still the only European country in which people routinely eat like this on crowded public transport. Try it in France ? even a breakfast croissant ? and you will be regarded with open derision and hostility and considered badly brought up. But then in France they take eating much more seriously and people commonly believe doing it while on the move to be detrimental to health. Only animals eat standing up, they say ? and they?re astonished by what they see on the Tube here. On the bus in Peckham, the done thing is to spit the bones of your fried chicken onto the floor

So it seems if we not wasting energy melting down plastics and polluting our own air we ship off our recycling to other countries to go in their landfills. I don't want to be part of this awfull business. Recycling is not good for the environment http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2304773/The-great-recycling-trick-How-carefully-sorted-waste-dumped-abroad.html

Hi. Same happened to me. It just feels natural to go straight but if you go back and look you will see the signs. I asked for video but there's no getting out of it. Must say its pretty dangerous turning left then right to carry on going straight. No need for it. Just a money making scheme

Public Transport? The Bad Vibes Alone Can Drive You Nuts IN ANGRY RANTS / ON JANUARY 25, 2013 AT 12:20 AM / Nicolas Wingate writes from London: I don?t like to use public transport. I prefer to drive or take a cab. Sure, it costs me a fortune but I just can?t force myself to use the bus or travel on the Underground because of the number of disgusting people on them who behave like savages and look like ones as well. There they are, talking loudly on their mobiles or between themselves, eating smelly foods, putting on make-up or, my personal most annoying activity, biting off their nails or cleaning them with all sorts of objects, including, bizarrely, Oyster cards and house keys. And on top of that some of these fellow passengers dress like morons and show off too much of their tattooed flesh that they seem to be very proud of. Yes, the mobile phone has introduced a new kind of menace on parts of public transport and it?s only a matter of time before the Underground facilitate all those idiots who like to terrorise others. I personally can?t stand to hear all that meaningless drivel, delivered in loud, usually deeply unpleasant voices by those who have no life but showing it off as if they actually do. These look-at-me ones think nothing of people around sometimes banging on about nothing in particular for the duration of their whole journey, often finishing the conversation with the words: ?I?ll see you in a bit?. That is when I want to ask them: ?Why, why the hell did you have to torture all of us if you?re going to meet up with her now anyway?? And I bet other women around me, who have also been made listen to the cow scream in her phone, wouldn?t have called me sexist. Then there is food consumption on public transport which has become something of a plague. While in the past some passengers on buses and the Underground were helping themselves to crisps and sandwiches, or to chewing gum energetically: now they indulge with a hearty meal consisting of some hot smelly mixture or, in extreme cases, soup. It is astonishing how they make other people watch them stuff their mouths with food, as if it is perfectly normal to eat in front of us, commuters, who happen to be trapped in the same carriage with them. They might have as well urinated on the floor for there?s not much difference between eating smelly foods and relieving yourself in public. I proclaim it is a high time to copy the American system and ban food on the Underground. Loud conversations accompanied by piercing laughter, mostly for no reason whatsoever, are yet another menace. This has become very fashionable among some people who never seem to run out of energy to perform. And mind you, they think nothing of it, talking bollocks endlessly while they are chewing their gums. They are obviously sure that they are cool and as such can be a bit different from the rest of us and share their wisdom and coolness with others who have no choice but to embrace. Attending to personal appearance on the go is another problem. Some women spend lots of time putting on their make-up in front of others, looking as if they?re on the game and on the way to a client. Apparently, the process requires them to make silly faces which would have been hilarious if they did not look so uncivilised and exasperating. And then comes the nail biting and cleaning, next to someone eating a curry! Backpackers are another thrill as they seem to forget that they actually have big bags on their backs when they move. Just like people with suitcases on wheels who seem to carry their possessions all around for some reason other than travel. And what about the semi-naked passengers lacking in personal hygiene who have no problem about sharing their nakedness with others. They seem to think that revealing their bodies to others would make them, others that is, appreciative of their naked torsos and physique, which often require some regular exercise or dieting. I don?t know about you, but tattooed individuals, and I am talking about people covered with idiotic images, disgust me. I?m sorry, but they look like savages who should be using some special means of transport, comparing their drawings and getting ideas for new ones. This tattoo craze has gotten out of control, compliments of footballers and pop stars. Interesting, instead of coolness, the looks transmit some personality or financial disasters, and almost want me to respond to their begging by giving them a coin. But then again maybe not. It well may be their personality that suffers more than their pockets and who knows in what way. No, public transport is not for me. Too many bad vibes

Cassius, You should not have to put up with people eating on the bus. It should not be allowed Its banned in many countries for good reason http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibited_activities_on_public_transport http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2009/oct/19/modern-manners-eating-public-transport

I'm afraid I agree with OP, Get dressed and put your makeup on before you leave the house. I've seen full makeup being applied and I don't want to sit next to someone going through the full routine with powder brush ect Seems it concerns others too. http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130127050055AAoUe4J. Not the best choice of words for the title. Maybe annoying would of been better than gross but its both gross and annoying

Recycling is a big con, it may help our UK landfills, but i dont feel good about dumping my rubbsih in third world countries Waste plastics are routinely burned in the open air, giving off clouds of poison gas, while heavy metals and other toxic substances leak into waterways. Mrs Chare said: ?These are organised criminal gangs, who are out to make as much money as possible without any regard for the harm they are causing. ?It is very much a reputation issue for our country to have criminals dumping material in the developing world with appalling consequences for the local people and environment. It also damages the legitimate recycling industry in this country.? In many cases local authorities and businesses collecting waste will subcontract parts of the process to third parties. Because of the increasing cost of disposing of toxic items legally, criminal gangs posing as legitimate businesses are able to undercut genuine firms by a large margin. I say southwark - fortnightly bin collections
Greengod replied to Terry Thomas esq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
im sorry people but i am as green and caring for our earth as most, that is why i feel i need to let people know that recycling is not good practice. i know this is hard for people to grasp since it goes against what weve been doing but please read up On a purely statistical basis recycling causes as much pollution as it intends to save. [www.youtube.com] In the show they asserted that the production of reusing the materials to make new things actually creates more pollution than just making something new from scratch. carbon to transport to the dump, where they?re put into a skip. It now takes 3 times more lorries to collect the separated rubbish than it used to take to collect unseparated rubbish Then a lorry comes along, picks up the skip, and drives (carbon, carbon) to the docks where the bottles are poured into containers and loaded onto a ship which steams halfway around the world (CARBON! CARBON!) to China, where they all get ?recycled?. You know what happens in China? There?s actually not much of any use that you can make out of waste plastic ? it?s no good for food, so you can?t make new bottles out of it ? so half of it gets burned right away on huge, stinking bonfires ? so there goes our clean air. The other half gets shredded, drawn, and eventually rendered down into clothes (fleeces, blankets, and so on), loaded back on a ship, and sent (CARBON! CARBON!) back here, so we can wear our garbage. And when our garbage clothes eventually wear out? What then? We throw them away (because not even the Chinese can think of anything to do with old woollies). It goes into landfill (because, remember, you can?t burn it). And says there for ? you have been listening, haven?t you? ? 24,000 years! Did you know that 75% of non-biodegradable landfill is clothes? So it ends up as landfill anyway, in spite of all that transportation and processing. In fact, except for materials like metal and some glass, recycling is almost always bad for the environment. Need proof? There is actually a lot. One of the best places to start is with a report from PERC.org, called the Eight Great Myths of Recycling; you can find a copy at [people.clemson.edu] "One argument made for recycling notes that we live on a finite planet. With a growing population, we must, it seems, run out of resources. Whether the resource in question is trees, oil, or bauxite, the message is the same: The only way to extend the lives of natural resource stocks is by more recycling." "In fact, we are not running out of natural resources. While recycling has the potential to extend the lives of raw material stocks, other activities, long practiced in the private sector, are already doing that. Available stocks of those resources are actually growing, and there is every reason to expect such growth to continue if the private sector is allowed to continue performing its functions." Consider forests. The amount of new growth that occurs each year in forests exceeds by a factor of twenty the amount of wood and paper that is consumed by the world each year. Perhaps partly as a result, temperate forests, most of which are in North America, Europe, and Russia, actually have expanded over the last 40 years." You get the idea. What the paper is referring to is the fact that paper production has actually increased the number of tress being planted in the world for one argument about this point). Paperless world Kindles ect will in fact kill tress Conversely, (and here is where recycling can hurt the environment) because of paper recycling we are actually planting fewer trees, and since paper recycling is a toxic manufacturing process, it releases damaging chemicals into the environment. Landfills Provides a "Green" Energy Source The gases produced by a landfill can be used in place of non-renewable sources for generating electricity. The recovery can be used to replace coal and natural gas to generate water vapor to power electrical turbines. This makes it a renewable energy source. A landfill can produce enough gas to provide energy for a couple thousand homes. Since all landfill produce methane, landfill gas is truly a renewable source of energy. So the new Southwark scheme with separate food collection will cause more people to recycle which is not good. -
New Southwark scheme with separate food collection will cause more people to recycle which is in fact a bad thing. :-S Recycling is in fact bad for environment YES hard to believe I know but its true! anything that encourages more people to do it is bad, Recycling just makes people think they are doing their bit.
