In fact you can cycle all day every day in London and not expect the deleterious effects of pollution (which obviously do exist) to outweigh the positive health benefits from cycling. The grauniad article doesn't say so, but as I recall this study also considers the risk of crashing; i.e. even given the risk of injury and the risk attributable to pollution, you are always better cycling than not. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/may/05/benefits-cycling-walking-outweigh-air-pollution-risk-cities
  2. I cycle through here every day (from Turney to Calton) on my way home from work. It is an immensely frustrating junction because the phasing of the lights causes you to wait an age (at least from Turney). However I can't honestly say that multiple mini roundabouts is the answer to anything. On the same journey I also go through a dual mini roundabout system in Fulham, and it's often gridlocked. I think this is partially because it isn't clear whose right of way it is since people (myself included) approaching one roundabout can't work out whether the person at the conjoined roundabout is in fact to their right, and so has right of way, or whether they can be safely ignored since they are on a different junction. This just ends up in hesitation. 3 roundabouts would exacerbate this issue. I also can't visualise how those green snakes work as cycle paths, I forsee more hesitation and angry drivers (and cyclists too perhaps).
  3. My self important ignorant narcissism (not to mention inability to afford a ferrari) would seem to indicate it could have been.
  4. I went in there a couple of weekends back, dunno if that was before or after the change. At whatever time it was (12 ish?) I absolutely was not allowed to have the full english breakfast (which comes with toast) as it states before 11 only, but *was* allowed have all the constituent ingredients added to a sausage sandwich. hmmm.
  5. I was almost knocked off my bike there the other day actually. That junction is terrible for motor vehicles, bikes and pedestrians. There are often crazy tailbacks. It should be a priority to sort it out; nick a strip of land from the green if necessary, have segregated cycle infrastructure (I've got a BMW as well by the way, I'm not a single issue cycle bore) and address the weird narrowing feeling you get when trying to drive around it. I don't know what the main traffic flows are but I guess from east dulwich road to/from east dulwich grove via that bit of LL is a very busy one, so you'd need to include the LL/EDG junction in any redesign too.

The internet is not the place for reasoned discussion you know :) https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/planning-and-regeneration/peckham-rye/supporting_documents/25%20July_Event%20Boards_FINAL_Revised_30.07.2015.pdf
  7. The finish may be of good quality but ugh, what a horrible pastiche. Why do the planning department even allow that? There are a couple on Oglander road too.
  8. Jut as an fyi/recommendation: Had my bike (pedal bike, but not cheap) stolen from my bike shed in my front garden on Amott Road last month, they cropped off two padlocks. I have replaced the bike and was looking into the best security to stop it happening again, these guys seem to have the best kit and reputation: http://securityforbikes.com/products.php?cat=Ground+Anchor%2C+Chain+and+Lock+Deals If you get a 16mm and upwards chain it is uncroppable with any portable bolt croppers, meaning they'd need to grind it off (noise) or smack it with a big hammer, which is impossible unless it's trailing on the ground. Their kit has some sort of insurance-approved rating for motorbikes if you get their anchor too. I got the 13mm chain which is 'virtually' uncroppable, and probably sufficient for a pedal bike, excellent quality stuff anyhow, and the ground anchor and padlock in the kit are pretty serious too.
  9. oh bums didn't notice the 'stolen' thread, mods please can you move? :)
  10. So last night had my brand new bike stolen from locked bike shed in my front garden on Amott Road, they forced the padlock. Can't help thinking they had been watching or somehow spotted it as the bike shed has been there for a couple of years with rubbish bikes in, then 4 weeks after the new shiny one arrives it's nicked. Police round promptly, but they aren't that hopeful obviously (we're the 3500th call today to met police 101 line!). Cube Peloton SL in red (pic attached), it's got Pinheads locks on the wheels/seat/handlebars so they will have to be removed with an angle grinder as I've got the unique key. If anyone spots any scallies riding it around please feel free to knock em off :) Might be worth paying extra attention to your bike security arrangements...
  11. Really sorry to hear about this, we live opposite the Gowlett but didn't hear anything. What did they look like? Have you asked Jonny if he has anything on his cctv? However Dulwichfox and Louisa to claim that Amott Road and environs is to be avoided, or even that this was the case 5 years ago, is patent nonsense. Your biggest danger is being offended by shouty rugger buggers.
  12. Who would it benefit though? From PR we can get to City/Canary Wharf/Victoria/E&C/Farringdon/KingsX/Clapham Junction pretty easily. All a Bakerloo extension would give us is slightly better journey times into bits of the west end (only slightly better because tube trains travel slowly). They also look at how much it would benefit the areas around proposed stations, and Peckham Rye/ED are pretty far along on that gentrification scale (on the proposed peckham route there is an intermediate station at burgess park which would help with the scally gentrification figures, but probably not enough). Considering it will cost 5bn that isn't much of a return, so that's why it will probably go along the old kent road to provide new escape routes from New Cross, Lewisham and other assorted dumps out that way. If you are in this for the long haul then sure sign a petition and see what happens, but major infrastructure projects move slowly compared to most peoples life events. Once they have finished with Crossrail, have found funding for CR2 and built it, then find funding for the Bakerloo extension and build it, that will probably be in 2030. I hope to be retired by then and living in a place with much worse public transport (a caribbean island perhaps).
  13. Check out londonreconnections.com for sensible discussion on this. As far as I can work out the synopsis is as follows: The Bakerloo will probably be extended, but not in the next 10 years (at least), and the route may or may not include Peckham.
  14. Sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle while eating a curry would be a better bet, and you wouldn't be paying some charlatan for the privilege.
  15. Glen has just done an excellent job of painting our walls and woodwork. We were really impressed by his attention to detail and he's very good value too. His number is 07960 051344.
