  1. I need to cover two armchairs. Could anybody recommend upholstery service in the area which is of high standard? please post me on this forum
  2. I have been offered the possibility to write to the board of the pension trustees to see if they allow me to take the pension, but they will not give me any gold handshake for the 30 years service and will let me loose my job. The inland revenue I understand does allow early leavers from one scheme to another without people loosing their jobs, but this company is doing things in this way and I will not have any right of redundancy because for the equality act they cannot make me redundant. Any suggestions
  3. hi, sorry to hear about your burglary. When it happened to us our insurers recommended Evander Glass and Locks. They do everything in case of criminal breaks in from doors, to lock, laminate windows, safe and alarms. This is their number 01634 297 020. they are very reasonable as well. In our case the insurance paid for the broken window glass panel. best wishes and try not to let this ruin your xmas.
  4. Thank you. Unfortunately I have to wait for their legal people to come with something in writing on which I can fight on. At the moment they only announced the transfer, told us nothing of the new contracts and new pensions, but elected reps to question the company on our behalf and report back. They are following the TUPE guide and have given us only short time to negotiate on. Does anybody know if time is important for the negotiations? How long should have given us by law? Apparently all was well before year 2006, then the government changed the TUPE law (which was an English interpretation of the European Acquired Transfer Rights, more favoruables towards employees!) and allowed loopholes for employers to play on.
  5. unfortunately I am in a final salary pension scheme, guaranteed and defined to which I paid in for 20 years and the company made it non contributory for the last 29 years and 10 months. This scheme would allow me to take my pension without any actuarial deduction on my 60 birthday if I want to stop working then, but because of the transfer, the scheme will be frozen for me and I don't know what rights I have from then on. I was told initially that my pension will be deferred till I will be 65 and I have to enrol in the new scheme in the meantime which will give me nothing as they will contribute very little and will match your contributions only if you are in a very high grade.
  6. my problem is not the transfer itself, but the pension, the new scheme will be detrimental as I have been in the current scheme for almost 30 years and are very close to retire according to the current scheme conditions
  7. can anybody let me know what readdress employeees has under the above issue if they disagree with the transfer? What about their pension rights?
  8. I heard that Waitrose may be investing in Sydenham in the development around the station. Is it true? Does anybody know anything about it? Perhaps we can get our sushi cheaper over there.
  9. Seen on Forest Hill Web site Not even the snow stops these people. Quote: Today 08:59 AM There was a burglary at 6:40am this morning in our street In Honor Oak Park, the guy forced the front door of one of our neighbours (PVC door which had not been double locked so they popped it open with a tool going under just one lock). Our neighbour was inside and she disturbed him but he managed to go away with a laptop, some other goods and her car keys. The police was here at 7am and has now talked to all the neighbours. They said that there has been a increase of burglaries due to a lot of people being recently released from prison for good behaviour (his words). From now on we will double lock at all times (we always double lock at night and when we are not in but now will do 24/7) SO ALWAYS DOUBLE LOCK YOUR DOOR EVEN WHEN INSIDE!
  10. you shoudl Tibby. Also write to Jeremy Vine on Panorama who will love to do services like this. At the end of the day it is always us paying the highest price. Would the insurance pay for these charges?
  11. I also shred everything. Sometime ago we saw a man in a white van going around opening people rubbish or everything left in the drive to take. Despite my husband and I were watching and commenting on it, he did not take notice and went off. I took the number plate and reported it, but nothing has ever come out of it.
  12. who has interests in the building industry in Ireland? who has shares in that sector? Apart from this I thought we had no money to spare for others and we were caput!
  13. I have worn the varifocals for the last 9 years and had no problems, unless I need a new prescription. They are expensive if you chose the various options the optician offers, whisch is reactive to light, extra light, extra clear, scratch proof etc.. At specsavers they offer good ones, from ?69 onward, excluding the frames, sometime 2 for the price of one ( i lost the second pair in the burglary. Sic!). If you travel to France and speak the lingo, they will cost much less. Unfortunately in England we are ripped off by everybody. If you work and use the computer often, remember that the employer can offer you vouchers for the sight visit and also vouchers toward the cost of new prescription glasses. That can help towards the costs
  14. Why to Edmonton, in the North London? Have they not made an arrest? What about finger prints and DNA on the car?
  15. Mr. Horniman is turning in his grave. He left the museum and the grounds free to all London citizens to enjoy and now it has become a political issue. What about the Nature trail? The Horniman looks after that as well, I understand.
  16. Perhaps more than that, banks and credit card details and addresses.
  17. thank God for that!. It must have been an awful experience. We had a similar experience but in different circumstances.
  18. More helpful news from this website:This is local London" where the Horniman has responded to rumours on the internet. Quote: FOREST HILL: Horniman Museum plays down fears of closure 2:10pm Wednesday 17th November 2010 Print Email Share Comments(0) By Nina Massey ? THE Horniman Museum has responded to internet rumours suggesting it faces closure in four years time. Speculation has been rife on websites such as brockleycentral.blogspot.com and Twitter that as a result of the Comprehensive Spending Review, the Horniman has been listed as one of eight non-national museums to lose funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), forcing it to close. Concerned blogger Oliver Lewis wrote on Twitter: ?I used to love going to the Horniman as a kid. It?s a travesty that it is losing its funding.? Meanwhile, nostalgic museum visitor Bridget Minamore, tweeted: ?My family couldn't afford or get the time to take me to fancy central London museums. Horniman was a huge part of my childhood. Save the Horniman." But a museum spokesman has now responded to the gossip saying: ?We would like to thank everyone who has expressed concern, but would like to assure them that we will not be closing." "There appears to be a lot of false speculation on the internet. ?Our funding is ring-fenced until 2015. We have been assured that we will not be cut loose then, and so there are no alarm bells ringing.? An official statement from the museum in London Road, Forest Hill, added:?Discussions regarding the Horniman are at an early stage and no decisions have been taken. ?DCMS hopes to make an announcement by March next year as to any new sponsor." A DCMS spokesman said:"We aim to identify alternative sponsors for these museums by April 2011. "There is no question of cutting these museums adrift without any financial support in the unlikely event that no new sponsorship arrangements can be found." Unquote Perhaps the National Lottery Funds could help to provide more funds
  19. Keef I was with Wells Park Practice a long time ago in 1987 and they were very good to me. Once a doctor, called Carol, drove me to Lewisham hospital herself the same day she saw me, as I had a serious infection. Are they down rated now? I hope not, because they were all very good at the time.
  20. It is now called "La Gastronomia" If you need to buy Italian sausages, there is another shop in Lordship Lane selling them. I think it is the Dulwhich Deli, but I am not about the name. I know, however that they sell them and I have bought some from them last year for Xmas, I bought the Spiced chilli ones and they were delightful. Otherwise you have to go around Victoria station where there is another shop called Gastronomia Italia making all the italian sausages (in Vauxhall Bridge Road). Another place where you can find them is in Dulwich Village. There is a grocery shop selling continental foods.
  21. Your suggestion that I am a little crazy is abusive. I dont't criticise people on the forum and how you dare to offend me? My only intention to start the thread on this forum it was to alert people. Other areas have crime cascade, so everybody knows what is going on. Why not on ED forum?
  22. You can put your head in the sand as much as you want and ignore reality. The fact is the area has becoming hot. I read all the burglaries threads on the forum. There have been quite few since I posted mine the first time. Still ignoring reality?
