  1. Hi there

I'm planning s visit to Israel for October. Just wondering what everyone's tips are for seeing the sights. I've got a week out there and don't mind travelling around each day to see all the main spots. Is it best to hire a car? Get a public bus? Where is best to stay? I am going with two other people and we would like to do it on a bit of a budget if possible... Some of the tour packages look extortionate. Is it best to arrange own transport and accommodation and they pay for day tours of major places? Open to ideas and suggestions. We'll be starting off in Tel Aviv.

    Many thanks in advance

  2. Currently experiencing similar problem but there are also complicated family matters at play too. One of the children upstairs has been arrested a few times for antisocial behaviour but returns or forces his way in and plays loud music or causes a ruckus. Big shame because we like our flat but might move out because of noisy neighbours - a major inconvenience for us.

I don't agree that just because we live in London or in closer proximity to other people that loudness should be tolerated. It's about respect. I don't host loud parties or raise my voice - so why should I or anyone else who plays by the rules have to put up with it?!

  3. I commute from Denmark Hill Station and without fail I see at least two (different) drivers a week attempt three point turns on Champion Park road (the road which runs in front of the Salvation Army and the new entrance to the station. A lot of these turns are done nearer the very sharp bend where cars bomb around. It's such a dangerous manoeuvre to attempt and have seen one accident happen as a a result - I'm sure there will be more.

Why do so many people do this? I don't understand why so many would need to do it - the traffic wait isn't that long and very few are turning round to get down Grove Lane.

  4. I'm considering moving and without fail there always seems to be properties available to rent in Linwood Close, in between Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye stations. Why is there a constant stream of availability?

The properties are flats and don't look too bad and are really spacious. Is the location the main issue? I looked on police.uk and there isn't higher than normal crime rates. Anyone have a theory? Anyone live/lived there?

  5. I think we're looking for one night to be a very nice restaurant and the next night a nice, but cheaper option.

I just looked up Guilford Arms - went there last year too, and was really good. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, some really impressive places to visit!

Another question, what about whisky tasting? Any recommendations? I went somewhere quite good near the royal mile and it was a bar which served be 5 different whiskys for ?14 - was really good. I think we're interested in trying the whisky, not so much a tour about how it is made...

  6. Hi there

I am arranging a highly respectable stag do in edinburgh during the Fringe festival. There's 14 of us and probably worth booking a restaurant and a large table in a pub. Does anyone anyone have any recommendations?

    Many thanks in advance!

  7. I'm currently with virgin media and am tempted to switch over to BT Broadband now they are offering their sports channels for free.

    Anyone made the switch?

Is it a good deal? I can't work out whether the 'BT Sport app and online player' means you can watch live games or not. More expensive packages say they include the channels BT Sport 1,2&3 and ESPN. What's the difference to the online player? http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/tv/packages

I would like to start getting the football and some other sports on TV (currently only have freeview), what does everyone else do? What's the best value deal out there?

  8. This has taken an absolute age to be completed. There's a poster up now saying that it will be completeed by June 2013 - I won't hold my breath though. I welcome the improved accessibility and routes in and out of the station. However, the new bridge looks very ugly. I personally dislike the glass panels and the colour of the construction. Denmark hill used to look like a nice classic station but has now been ruined. I suppose we can't have utility and beauty.

Also, they really need to install more than one Oyster machine. It frequently breaks and as a result ends up costing me more in buying a single ticket from the kiosk. Also, I hope the coffee guys get to stay!

  9. Thanks - that link to YouTube is a good tip. I took the iPhone cover off but was too scared to start meddling around with it. The button clicks a bit but it does seem a bit jammed. I'll live with it for now, but would like it back to normal.
  10. Had the same problem. I live on champion grove nearer to denmark hill station.

Returned from work yesterday to smell this solvent/varnish type smell as soon as I walked in the door and also in the bathroom.

Was worried it was gas but got the gas people out and they checked for a leak using a detector but couldn't find one. Might phone environmental health or an electrician next. Neighbours haven't poured any chemicals away but pipes might be interconnected along the street?

  11. Got a similar problem.

The neighbours are noisy, stomping about late at night (family of six!) At first they were apologetic but they didn't try to be quieter thus we kept on asking them to be quieter. Think they're annoyed at us now - at loggerheads... What can you do but move? Some people are pig-headed and inconsiderate. I always think about Sartre's quote: "Hell is other people"

  12. Hi

I'm going to buy a MacBook but trying to decide where from. I've listed some options below. Some are cheaper options but have only 1 year warranty, whilst some retailers I trust a bit more than others to buy a laptop from. Price is important but so is the delivery and care of product. Let me know what you think...

Apple (with discount): ?928 (1 year warranty)

    Apple (refurbished): ?899

    Amazon: ?865 (1 year warranty)

John Lewis: ?999 (2 year warranty)

  13. My iPhone power on/off button doesn't click like it used to. I can still turn it on or off if I press really hard but its not ideal. I've heard Apple are extortionate - does anyone know anyone who can repair this locally and for a small fee?
  14. Hi everyone

I want to be able to watch catch up tv on my tv via a blu ray player. Currently I have a Sony one but only had bbc iplayer and 5od.

I need to have at least Bbc iplayer, Netflix, 4od

Love film, itv and 5od are optional

Can anyone recommend a blu ray player or similar device which will do the job? My friend has a Sony ps3 which has most of these - it's weird that other Sony blu ray players don't have the same function.

    Any suggestions more than welcome

    Many thanks!

  15. I like Stewart Lee. There I said it.

Not everyone's cup of tea with people saying he is smug and doesn't tell jokes. Partly true, however, I enjoy the way he goads the audience (myself included) and breaks down the fourth wall of stand up. He is kind of a throwback to the alternative comedy scene of the 80s, so is different to all the Russell comedians of today. I would recommend to anyone his recent books - a transcript of stand up shows which are heavily annotated and really interesting.

I like Richard Ayoade and Matt Holness' Darkplace - that was genius. I'm also a big fan of Larry David's Curb but I am aware of its recycled format.

Ok, now for the comedians I don't appreciate: Miranda Hart, Jimmy Carr, Frank Skinner,

On the Gervais argument, I liked The Office as many people did. But I think the general perception is he got too full of himself and it was more about him boasting about how great and successful he was and this put a lot of people off. I don't especially like Derek, Extras was ok and whilst the podcasts are good in places - it kind of felt like he was bullying Karl Pilkington...
