  1. Another recommendation for Leon / Electrical Initative! He came round yesterday for the first step of a job, which involved testing the wiring in my flat with a view to installing a new consumer unit. Once done, he gave me his report and recommendations, and I look forward to his next visit. What impressed me is that he has a very "holistic" view of the property, and explained to me how things work and how things are connected (not just electricity, plumbing and gas are part of it too). The main issue with my flat is the outdated earthing cables - because standards have changed since 30 years ago! I'll add that he responded to my initial text message within one hour. He came round four days later, even working on a Saturday. He is very friendly and approachable, obviously knowledgeable, and affordable prices too. I fully expect to be leaving another positive feedback post before long.
  2. Very happy to recommend Paul of Knight & Sons! I had a fitted kitchen installed recently, and he removed all the pieces of the old one. Not an especially easy job, as all the MDF had been sitting in my back garden and was getting waterlogged and crumbly. Plus the narrow access through my house added an extra burden! On top of all that his van had broken down, but he still came through with a vehicle and his mate Steve. Between them they completed the job in less than one hour, and even swept up the MDF debris off the street when they'd finished. I would add that he replied instantly to my initial call, gave me a fair quote based on a couple of photos, and fixed a collection date within two days. No nonsense. Try getting a response like that from your local Council waste management team!
  3. Add me to the list of satisfied customers. I recently had an annual gas boiler service from Tommy Rooney. I was impressed by his capability. He’s not only knowledgeable about all the mechanics, but also the related building problems to do with gas boilers (e.g. awkward walls and narrow spaces), so I’d guess he’s pretty experienced with installations. He doesn’t mind you watching him at work, in fact he’s very happy to talk you through everything that’s happening as he applies various gauges and diagnostic tools. He diligently completed a report in the back of my manual, sent a gas service record by email, and pointed a few areas where the initial installers had cut a few corners. Unlike some who work in this area, he’s got himself a decent-looking website (built on Wix) with all the information you’d need, even a photo so you’ll recognise him when he turns up. I got a quote instantly by email, and he does invoices by BACS too (no need to get to the cashpoint). He proposed a 30-minute arrival slot and arrived exactly at 8:30 am; my takeaway from that is that you won’t be waiting in the house all day. I can totally recommend this fellow’s work and will be using him again next year.
  4. I just got a new washing machine and was told I had to plug it into a wall socket, rather than use an extension. Frustratingly, the cable supplied was just too short to reach. Expecting to have a new socket installed, I found this thread and contacted James in hopes that he could help. He came round the next day. Instead of installing a new socket, he cut two small holes in my cupboards so that the moulded plug would fit through, and plug into my existing power supply. Very impressed with this simple and practical solution, which he did in less than an hour at a very reasonable price. High recommendation from me for this excellent craftsman. I will call on James again.
  5. Highest recommendation for Tony. Very prompt service - I phoned at lunchtime and he came round the same day before 6pm. Within 45 mins, my E133 error had been fixed. Very courteous fellow and evidently knows exactly what he's doing. So great you can still get service of this calibre!
  6. Another recommendation for Frank and his van from me. He is efficient and timely, and arrived exactly when he said he would. He drove me all the way to West London and back and helped carrying an awkward piece of furniture. His prices are very reasonable and he told me the charges upfront. He also texted me the night before the job to confirm. He's a very capable and safe driver. I noticed how he never cuts in on the road, always defers to others. I would completely recommend Frank to anyone. You are in safe hands, phone him with complete confidence.
  7. I too wish to endorse Ashley of Blueflame. He fixed a problem with my combi boiler that's been troubling me for months. The last repairman I had round couldn't even identify the fault, but Ashley did. I found him to be very thorough in his work and his checking. He explained everything comprehensively and clearly. He found the correct (and cheaper) solution, which turned out to be a broken motor part rather than a malfunctioning circuit board. While checking voltage, he consulted expert advice on his phone while he did it. He drove away to fetch the new part, fitted it, and also serviced and cleaned the boiler. All this in less than three hours. His prices seem very reasonable to me and he is a very personable fellow, someone you can have full confidence in. Thanks Ashley!
