  1. RussSE15, The same thing happened to me recently. What I did to solve the problem was to uninstall the last update and install the latest. Here's how to to do it: https://www.maketecheasier.com/uninstall-windows-10-updates/
  2. The Sydenham Hill Bus Lane Improvement Notice is dated 28 March 2019 - one year after Southwark secretly extended the bus lane and double yellow lines without prior consultation. As Southwark did not follow proper protocol, following the June 2018 and March 2019 (I mentioned June 2019 in error) residents consultations overwhelming objections the extended bus lane restriction has to date not been enforced.
  3. I am on the Lewisham side of Sydenham Hill at Crystal Palace Parade end. In March 2018 Southwark Council secretly in the middle of the night under the pretence of re-tarmacing the road extended the bus lane and double yellow lines resulting in the lost of 20 street car parking spaces on both the Lewisham and Southwark sides. This was done without a public consultation and instead using TFL's initiative as an excuse. We contacted TFL and they came back to say Sydenham Hill is not under their control. The parking restrictions were supposed to be 24/7 despite Sydenham Hill being a relatively quiet road.Obviously, residents and properties affected raised their objections. Southwark, knowing this was illegal, undertook a residents consultation in June 2018 and the objections to the bus lane and double yellow lines were overwhelming. Not accepting the June 2018 results, Southwark conducted another residents consultation in June this year and the result was the same. We knew this by talking to residents affected. Southwark did not want to furnish the results of both consultations to us. So to date the bus lane and double yellow extension is left as it was and residents continue to park on it knowing the restrictions cannot be implemented.
  4. This was due to the closure of Crystal Park Road from Wednesday night till last night. Buses and cars were taking diversions to Sydenham and Penge via Forest Hill hence the congestion in Lordship Lane. Crystal Palace Park Rd is now re-opened so things should be back to normal.
  5. I use Virgin Media and I sign into their Community forum from time to time to any issues I have with my TV/Tivo or broadband. http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Broadband/ct-p/Broadband
  6. Renata Hamvas Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi Fly, Southwark bulky waste refuse do pick up > mattresses. The alternative is to take it/find > someone who can take it for you to the recycling > centre just off the old Kent Road. > Renata Do you mean Landmann's Road, off Surrey Canal road ? That centre is for Lewisham residents and they want proof of your residence.
  7. Best way to eradicate them is to spray concentrated glyphosate on the plant and when the leaves wither cut it down to just 6" above ground. Pour salt and glyphosate into the hollow stems. Best time to do it is in June/July when the weather is dry. They do come back the following season but smaller so do the same again. It would take at least three seasons to eradicate them. Apparently, Roundup which contains glyposhate is banned in a couple EU countries because it was claimed that glyposhate is carcinogenic. A cheap way is to spray the plants with concentrated washing machine liquid water mix. If the weed is in public land the local council should be responsible to eradicating it. So if see any of the weed in public area close to your property you should report it. If it is in your garden you can be fined for allowing it to spread. On the other hand, if the weed is in public land and spreads to your garden you can sue the council. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2807413/Homeowners-Japanese-knotweed-fined-2-500-new-rules-class-failing-control-problem-plant-anti-social-behaviour.html
  8. Maela, Can you tell us what was displayed when you powered up your laptop. Was it a blue screen or the screen just froze at the Starting Windows logo ?
  9. Try Knighton Motors, 159-161 Sydenham Road, London SE26. Their telephone no. is 020 87783109. The owner is a very friendly chap. It is illegal to drive with an expired MOT. However, you can drive to a MOT test centre which you have pre-booked to get an MOT undertaken.
  10. I use Masters Renault, Upper Elmers End Road, Beckenham. http://www.mastersgroup.co.uk/renault/

  12. I recommend Carrie Andrews. She fitted my new bathroom. She knows the people at Bells of Lordship Lane and you can check that out with them. http://www.hernehillforum.org.uk/services/plummy-plumbers

  14. If you are asked to hang up and call a number back straightaway, to be safe, use a different phone to do it.

  16. Alison, I assume you are using a desktop PC with Windows XP or Vista. Does your PC boots up to the Windows logo and then reboots again back to the same or it just shuts down completely ? What processor and socket type your PC has ?
  17. If you are heading north using Vauxhall Bridge Rd please be careful of the diversion at Wilton Road, next to Victoria Stn. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23859873-london-traffic-cameras-pound-2m-fines-in-three-months.do From Vauxhall Bridge Rd remember not to turn onto Wilton Rd where it says buses and taxis only. Follow the diversion sign via Eccleston Bridge, right onto Eccleston St, right again onto Buckingham Palace Rd then left onto Grosvenor Place from there to Park lane. Coming back, you won't be affected by the diversion as Wilton Rd by Victoria Stn is one way only.
  18. Coming back, nearing the end of the M1 I'll keep left so I can turn left onto the A406 and then after a couple of hundred yards via a slip road left onto the roundabout (under the Brent Cross flyover) there should be a sign posted A41 Central London/West End (3rd fork down Hendon Way will take you to Finchley Road/Swiss Cottage). If you keep on the right near the end of the M1 you will end up going towards Staples Corner then Cricklewood. If there is no C charge I'll follow A41 to Central London/Baker St/across Oxford St to Grosvenor Sq/Park Lane/Victoria/Vauxhall Bridge Rd then either Brixton or Kennington whatever traffic suits me. If there is heavy traffic on Baker St because of the road works you can always midway turn right onto Edgware Rd. If C charge is in force I would at the Wellington Rd (A41) roundabout turn right onto St John's Wood Road back to Edgware Rd then Park Lane, Victoria, Vauxhall Bridge Rd etc.
  19. The route I suggested earlier is the one I would take when C charge is in force. Outside C charge hours I would at Park Lane turn right into Upper Brook St then left onto North Audley St from there straight on to Gloucester Place which is the start of A41 towards Swiss Cottage/Finchely Rd/M1.
  20. I drive to Nottingham fairly often and my preferred route to the M1 (from Sydenham Hill) is as follows: South Croxted/Croxted Rd/HerneHill/Brixton/Stockwell/Vauxhall Bridge Rd/Victoria (follow the diversion sign here as Wilton Rd by Victoria Stn and the Apollo Theatre is closed to private vehicles ? a ?120 fine is you go through) then Grosvenor Place/Park Lane/Edgware Road but just before Maida Vale at the traffic lights turn right turn into St Johns Wood Rd and come out at the A41 roundabout. From there follow the A41 to Swiss Cottage/Finchley Road and from the follow the direction Brent Cross/M1. I avoid Kilburn High Rd and Cricklewood at all times. The A41 route traffic is normally moving even at peak hours. Depending on traffic, journey time to the MI is between 45 mind to an hour. I find going via Denmark Hill/Camberwell/Kennington/Vauxhall Bridge Rd is no more faster than Herne Hill /Brixton/Stockwell/Vauxhall Bridge Rd
  21. My route will be via Brixton/Stockwell Rd/Vauxhall Bridge Rd/Victoria/Grosvenor Place/Park Lane/Upper Brook St/Park St then follow A41 Swiss Cottage then follow sign to Brent Cross/M1. This is on a bank holiday and weekend where there is no congestion charge. Beware of diversion at Victoria Stn area - Wilton Road is no longer accessable to private vehicles. This is the route I normally take to Nottingham (avoiding Edgware Rd/Kilburn/Cricklewood) 4-5 times a year. I have tried the A12/M11/M25/M1 route once and found it a bit longer and both the Rotherhite and Blackwall Tunnels can be problematic with cars breaking down therein.
