  1. Yes Aston also did a great job for us and was quick, responsive and jobs were done to a high standard. I would recommend too. His number: 07490947355
  2. Yes, this would be brilliant. I am from Totnes in Devon and an amazing one has set up there: http://thezerowasteshop.co.uk/ I think this would be excellent and well used in East Dulwich or Herne Hill.
  3. Definitely a second shout out for local kitchen makers West and Reid. We searched all around for a nice kitchens and went everywhere from John Lewis to Ikea to higher end before we came across West and Reid who made a super stylish, bespoke kitchen for us which I absolutely love. They were great to work with and surprisingly well priced. You can see our kitchen with dark green handless units and marble worktop. https://www.westandreid.co.uk/ Chloe
  4. I am a TV and Film PR and also the Director of a Literature Festival who is looking to offer an internship in my office in West Dulwich. The role would suit an arts and literature loving school leaver, recent graduate or student with good organisational and IT skills. Ever wanted to know how major broadcasters run media campaigns for high profile TV dramas or how literature festivals attract Booker prize winning authors? Now is your chance! The role would include a mixture of administrative work, as well as some involvement in the day to day programming of the literature festival and work on a portfolio of TV drama projects. It is a good, work experience opportunity. The rate of pay would be in keeping with that of an intern. However, no prior experience would be necessary. The hours would not be full time. A passion for books, theatre, film and TV plus awareness of news and media is essential. Please tender your interest via email to [email protected]. Your application should include no more than 100 words, and should state: Name and address Desired hours of work and availability. A brief summary of education; and any relevant experience, even if unpaid. Suitable applicants will be contacted in due course Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
  5. Just to clairfy I can tell you now this meeting has been organised by a collection of local parents across a range of primary schools including very concerned parents with children in the 8 Gipsy Hill Federation primaries who are under threat of academisation. We want to defend education as a public service and open up a discussion about the fundamental changes that our government are proposing. Do feel free to come as we want a full exploration of all views.
  6. Hello East Dulwich Parents - we need your power now! A group of concerned local parents and teachers have set out to create an event in South London that aims to help further inform people (including ourselves) about the changes and challenges facing our schools. We have organised a 'Parents Defending Education - South London: Parents & Teachers Event' and I wanted to see if I could encourage you all to come so we can get informed and involved together. Please spread the word to other parents you know too. All are welcome. We want it to be as lively, information rich and well attended as possible. Thursday 16 June at 8pm at effraspace, 21 Effra Parade, London SW2 1PX Here is a link to the Facebook event page which it would be wonderful if you could click if you will attend and share: https://www.facebook.com/events/250401915318081/permalink/250500468641559/ The event has been created as an opportunity for parents to meet with teachers, share information and hear first hand the challenges and concerns facing our education system. In the last few weeks the media has been full of stories about the government's plans for schools but what will this mean for your child and school? Today 8 Lambeth schools received letters in their book bags saying that academisation was now on the cards. Your school may have been one of these or be next? Hopefully the event will give you the opportunity to: Discover more about how local schools are run and how this might change in the future? Academisation is still a route many schools may take - forced or not. Understand what teachers and fellow parents really feel about SATs and the increasingly onerous regime of Primary testing. Get to grips with how the governments funding freeze will be effect class size, number of teachers and assistants and support services. Out of the meeting we hope to be able to agree what a campaign directed to government might look like, how to support teachers / schools further and what action we might want to take in our own school - at the very least discuss what questions we should all be asking? We are very pleased to have received the backing of the NUT for our meeting. The meeting will be free and drinks and nibbles will be on offer. Good campaigns to check out if you want more information are: ‪#‎letkidsbekids‬ ‪#‎parentsagainstforcedacademies‬ ‪#‎parentsdefendingeducation‬ Let's remember that our schools don't belong to the government. Our schools belong to our children, to the community, to the parents, to the teachers and support staff and to future generations. Many thanks all.
  7. We have just had a brilliant experience having our kitchen made by Tom and Malcolm from Weir Woodwork (http://weirwoodwork.com/). They are based locally and like others here I would highly recommend them. We really liked how they worked. They were professional, communicative, reliable (unlike pretty much everyone else involved in our never ending house renovation!). They were also perfectionists who we felt paid close attention to the finish and quality. I think they came in at a reasonable price especially for a bespoke kitchen that is made exactly to your design and space. I enjoyed the design phase with them and felt they gave lots of good creative input and expertise as well as listening carefully to what we wanted. I've attached a picture of our finished kitchen and on their website I think you can see more examples. They finished our kitchen this autumn and it got loads of use this Christmas and stood up to the task brilliantly. We did a lot of research into Howdens, Ikea, John Lewis and British Standard kitchens and I am so pleased we went with Weir Woodwork. They came recommended by friends who raved about them and whose kitchen was very stylish. I am sure they will get very popular and busy but if you can get in with them soon I would strongly recommend it.
