I first came across Apple when I was dating someone from City of London Polytechnic back in the late 1980s - she used an Apple and an Apricot (which I thought was nicer without understanding why computers were named after fruit) - it was a bugger to use and everyone seemed to spend their time saying things like MS-Dos. I only started to understand how to use them myself when the forerunners of PCs (referred to then as IBM Compatibles) started to spread so I never really got on the Apple bus.
