  1. Forget the van - AND the boiler suit (this isn't an Ealing comedy) - put on paint splattered tracksuit bottoms and a check shirt and have him call at the house which you are 'doin'-up on the cheap for the geezer wot lives there' so need every penny you can get. Check prices on-line first and look permanently perturbed as you stare at your Sun crossword while he goes over the items. Practice sucking air through your teeth and slowly shaking your head and when he names a price you can live with shake head even slower and say (pointing to any other rubble you need disposing of) 'go on then - take this sh*t an' all an' we got a deal'. When money changes hands drop act and say "Thanks awfully old man" and beam. ETA: Yes, for the purposes of the last act we ARE in an Ealing comedy and you are Ian Carmichael.
  2. This is doc's kind of BIG band...http://www.covershut.com/cd_covers/NOW-That%27s-What-I-Call-Music!-73-Cd-Cover-4407.jpg...over!? ohhhh no, it aint over.
  3. This is the same Daily Mail Moron behind the constant rejuvenation of the "Winterval" myth, the "BBC Drops BC/AD" lie and many racist and anti-Muslim pieces... meet Steve Doughty
  4. Kennington Park Lido - closed 1987... http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v5101/169/118/726309653/n726309653_1825611_2061198.jpg
  5. There is a pop-up shop in the old Threshers now. It sells Camden-style woollies (peruvian cardigans and pixie hats and slipper-sox etc. together with some knitted novelty mask/hat thingies) not a bad selection and not bad prices (winter and Xmas being imminent). Guy inside says he'll only be there 3 or 4 weeks though he (or rather his boss) has expressed an interest in NorthX rd market.
  6. It's a semi-permanent three-card-monty stall. The guy who mans it is only there on Saturdays. He has a stack of business cards on the table then and hands them out if you show interest... I think he's selling little tables (really).

I think it would be entertaining (enlightening?) to train a wireless rifle mic on a player - like the camera in "Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait" - or 22 mics onto all the players so subscribers could flick from one to the other to see what any player was saying at any one time. You could hear every word said during the game - much like going to a Macclesfield home game.
  8. I thought the point of the 'Big Society' and the touch-pad revolution was that we would ALL be part of the next big band/game/movement... maybe it really is just sitting in tents in city squares and whining - wonder what that sounds like over a million i-phones...
  9. Good news. Though I notice that the review carries the recommendation that opening hours should be shortened to save money (the reason for the proposed cuts in the first place) so the library service will still be being reduced. Among the other recommendations are "staff reorganisation" and the "use of volunteers" which sounds like a further reduction of the library service and a growing reliance on unpaid (untrained) staff. As for the "Co-locating or integrating with other Southwark services" does this mean books alongside Housing Benefit claims? Housing/repair complaints dealt with at the same time as overdue novels? I know - we're told all this is inevitable as cuts have to be made and this way the libraries stay open - for now. I just wonder whether they are being changed/restructured to the point when we will no longer recognised them purely as libraries... which will make them easier to close.

  14. There were some excellent golden crab apples along Green Dale as well as an abundance of Hawes and Elderberries.. the Blackberries had been pretty much picked clean though.

    Occupy London

I have now decided to occupy this thread as a protest about stuff some of which is dealt with on this thread and some of which isn't dealt with on this thread but is still stuff that needs protesting about - I view this protest as legitimate and far reaching in its scope and vitality and hope others will build camps and protest at this stuff which we all know about even if we can't articulate it. Ah, the post-modern defence. I was only shouting "F****** Black C***" (twice in succession) as an illustration of what I didn't say. Didn't occur to him to yell or at least prefix this with "I didn't say- (that)!" or to shake his head with derision whilst belting out the 'comment'. But fair enough - I suppose it's the same kind of casual racism we were supposed to accept from Prince Harry with regard to his 'mate' so a footballer shouldn't be held to a higher standard.

Was aware of this (but hadn't seen anything on youtube etc.) before watching highlights on MOTD2 and even then - when I would have expected the relevant footage to have been edited out - it's clear that Terry is using a racist insult and doing it twice.

  20. Me too, but the dog and I sat down and discussed our differences before he changed into a nebulous paradox and I had to get the bus home from Chigley.
  21. I made an omelette with some foraged mushrooms too... http://farm1.static.flickr.com/26/50821677_07fd839b24.jpg ...not a great culinary success and I seemed to have lost a Wednesday.

Yes but Matthew was always making shit like that up.
  24. Had Hisar mixed grill two weeks ago - don't know what else people expect from meat cooked over a bbq pit but this was very succulent and full of flavour. Never had a bad meal there even if the decor/atmos is a bit 'cold' (prefer to take-away - from the restaurant side - myself). Last went to the Barcelona 2 years ago - was okay if not spectacular. Asked myself if I didn't live in the area, are there any restaurants on LL that I would travel from afar to visit and the answer is probably not.
  25. 15(a). You will learn to make a proper cup of tea if it kills you. 16. You will stop chewing gum. Sucking on a barley stick will be permitted at times of extreme stress or when you have a tummy ache. 17. Cowboys will no longer wear stetsons and will favour wellies over pointy-toed boots and also suck on long pieces of straw and say "Arrrrr" a lot. 18. Mexican food is out. Every town and city is to have at least one curry house per 1000 head of population. 19. You will stop making fun of Canadians and start making fun of the French. (French Canadian insults are allowed). 20. Coca Cola will cease production and be taken over by R. Whites for the production of cherryade.
