  1. If it's a Hebe then you may well have Vine Weevil. You can use nematodes to fight the larvae but as it's wilting now it may already be too late. Dig down and check out the roots - if they have been eaten away then it's a goner. If there's enough root left replant it (having got rid of all the soil and washed the roots). Google vine weevil for lots of ways to deal.
  2. Looks like a Salvia in need of a good watering.
  3. I'll probably get slaughtered for this but you asked - I find the desperation to have children and the lengths some people are prepared to go to to satisfy this breeding urge rather repugnant in an overpopulated world where countless orphanages are doing steady business. ETA: No. I realise you didn't ask about surrogacy in general but it was what I thought when this whole sorry story unfolded on tv - that and the fact that the 'father' did the fake crying thing - made me shudder.

Terrible letter by Legia. By all means appeal vociferously that a minor technicality shouldn't be so harshly punished but this sort of limp PR garbage is laughable. Wonder if they sent it on tear-stained paper? Charity shield - a lot of leaden feet being slowly dragged back to life on the ManC team.. and that skin-tight beach-volleyball shirt the gooners were wearing?... can't see many fans in the over 35 bracket struggling into a replica one of those without corsets.

So what you're saying is 'grow up'? It might help if you didn't use the superior-sounding, pompous and embarrassingly self-reverential term "you lot" quite so often.

I remember Irons having to replay a League Cup game against Villa (originally won) because Manny Omnoyimni came on as sub and was ineligible. Lost the replay but it seems a fairer way to go. Expect Legia will appeal.

Do they exist? Used to Parky - almost any pub in Coventry city centre in the late 70s early 80s. The- Alhambra, Silver Sword, City Tavern, Bier Keller, Penny Black, Three Tuns, White Bear, Yates's, etc...
  14. Not malapropisms but the above reminded me of "a cat lick and a promise" as a term for an all-too-brief wash; my missus refers to the same as a "whore's bath".
  15. Pretty much what *Bob* said (including similar locale). Civilised pubs existed in abundance in the suburbs; City Centre boozers were more often redolent with a heady mix of testosterone, boredom, frustration and disappointment. And while the "You spilled my pint" gambit was rare enough, the "Are you screwing [looking/staring at] me mate?" was often heard and followed with hijinks.
  16. TJ - sorry, missed that bit - yes 16 months is probably too long.
  17. Oh dear, misplaced G-o-T humour just about the name really - "A day will come when you think yourself safe and happy, and suddenly your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth..." Ash Kebab? So many high feckin horses around here it's hard to see the wood for the molehill.
  18. And what exactly can we expect these kebabs to turn to in our mouths?

Used to be the place but, although they claimed to sell only the finest organic drugs, some of it turned out to be cheap factory knock-off from Denmark or cheap mass produced shit that had been stepped all over.
  20. I like 'em. 'Si' and, er... I want to say 'Graham'?... 'Tony'?... Cheesy grinning lumpen blokes with the natural rapport of step brothers and the comedy stylings of Alan Titchmarsh - and quiche. What's not to like?
  21. Are you sure it was 'sell by' and not 'best before'? Bars don't (usually) get in beer that is anywhere close to its expiry date unless it is on (very) special offer and in that case they will be fully aware of the fact. Have had the same thing (other side of the jump) and, as it was after the best before date, just sold it cheaply (as a past-date beer) as bottled beer can be okay for a few months afterwards - it flew out the door and no one got the trots. Right thing to do? They should put a notice on the fridge and sell it at half price.
  22. The aspect of the debate that I've found less and less appealing is the "How am I better off" pov. Those who say they will vote to stay in a union ONLY if the bribes/incentives are big enough and, even then, if they don't get everything they demand now and in the future they may force another vote 10 years down the line. Like a spouse constantly threatening to leave if their partner doesn't give in on everything. I am tending to think - of them - fuck you, and no, when you've gone you can't still use the car.
  23. wringle wrangle... plumbing the depths...
  24. I couldn't care less whether a pub/bar was built for that purpose or started life as a restaurant, shoe shop or surgical appliance factory - makes a change for premises to become bars instead of other way around. I have been in many, many 'pubs/boozers' (even lived in and co-ran one for a couple of years - and it's now a flipping restaurant) and a fair number were places of real character where one could spend an evening without the need for hot food, comedy, football on telly or even a pool table - but plenty were also depressing dingy places with stinking toilets and stale ale. I like the Flying Pig for its selection of beers and proper still ciders, a good selection of spirits and a long bar to sit at. That's all I need.
