  1. This is according to the restrictive x, y, z axis. But, I'm an emotional indeterminist (e.i.) with existential irrational optimism (e.i.e.i.o.) (Edited after the 5th Huge edit but before the 6th)

Oooh, warming to 'Danny fcuking Wellbeck' now are you Parky? I know well(beck) who he is - not the first time I've said he's a diving cheat http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1158228,1242743#msg-1242743

Surely Wenger was just saying that 'travelling' meant he had more time to look closely at last minute deals, like being able to focus more when you haven't got people bothering you all day. With what has been said about Wellbeck by Van Gaal I expect he'll score a shed load at Goonerville. Maybe he'll stop diving too?
  4. Please! Next you'll be banging on about their cheap olive oil, single-bulb garlic baskets and whole-nut chocolate. The queues are bad enough as it is.
  5. I was going to contribute to this thread but on looking back I can find nothing that has really irked me today - which really pisses me off.

A disaffection with government will not disappear by moving it to Edinburgh; the same broken promises and lies will prevail (it's in the nature of the beast) or are they hoping for a one-party (SNP) state? Talking 'state' - given that HMQ may well be busy with UK state business when Scotland needs a head of state on hand to entertain a foreign head of state - would they appoint a Governor General?

  8. Whichever way it goes now, it's going to be too close for the rift that the passions have aroused to heal easily. After all it's not the sort of vote that can be reversed - like a general election - in a few years time. Close results also leave too many disgruntled losers; I hope for a 'No' but on reflection a close 'Yes' may be the best thing to end this arse-ache once and for all. A close 'No' will inevitably lead to calls for another vote every few years and demands for bribes to keep the Scots sweet - not to mention a heightened antagonism towards the English (accusations of vote rigging or fixing the result, the feeling that the English have screwed the Scots over again etc.) which may not have been there if it was a decisive 'No'. This may, of course, be merely a symptom of secession fatigue on my part.
  9. It would have been manslaughter even if it HAD been a burglar wouldn't it? The severity of the sentence would presumably be down to whether he was really in fear of his life and had no option but to shoot.

I admit I wrote them off by which I mean I thought their style (and that of Barcelona par example) of pass-pass-pass aka ticky-tacky was being confounded by teams who pressed hard and high up (half way line) and that this latter style seemed to be winning through at the WC. Interestingly Hodgson seems to have taken note (or at least his young players have) given the pressing and counter attacking v the Swiss. On another note - given the financial-fair-play fine QPR may get (around ?50m?) from the FL for their last Championship season - if they stay up they'll surely be able to afford it even if they lose their appeal - does this make that fine irrelevant for teams considering spending huge amounts to try and get into the Prem?

  14. The 'Three Amigos' trip north convinces me the British Government has decided Scottish Independence is to be desired (by them) - nothing else I can think of is more likely to convince the unsure which way to jump. Interesting to see how EDF-ers have maintained points of view on this three years on http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,664608,664608#msg-664608 and that some predictions made then reflect the "they'll never do it" attitude that the 'No' campaign has been criticised for relying on.

Whilst we're still on the subject (and as there is nothing of any consequence happening in English football today) delighted to see Coventry City back at the Ricoh and drawing 27,000 on Friday. May be a 'home-coming' peak but I hope the crowds stay.

  18. I was speaking of the 'collective' me (the Brits man, the Brits) - that you think their self interest should override other concerns and that it should come down to how we can come out of it well? That has an almost biblical ring about it - covet not thy neighbour's ox - just don't let it graze on your lawn. ETA: well, not without sufficiently adequate grazing fees.
  19. SJ - Ah, you mean sod them- "what's in it for me?"
  20. I don't think I've blamed the govt. - I just think, in the event of a yes vote, those who didn't get a say will feel 'dumped' and may not want the divorce to be an amicable 'let's stay friends' one - even if that is the preferable (only real) option so there will be posturing and table thumping as everyone compares nationalist creds.

Not one 'they' make alone - that's called being dumped and we all know how that feels! I expect we'll see the political equivalent of cutting up all the suits or scratching the car...
  22. StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If the british public get petty and hard-faced in > the aftermath it would be ENTIRELY childish (but > unsurprising - NOT team players (unless it's on > their terms)) Do you mean the remaining Brits (i.e. English, Welsh and N. Irish) minus the Scots? But surely that would mean they WERE team players - all pulling for 'new' Britain against a foreign power? I'm kidding - it wouldn't solve anything and there will be a lot of under-the-counter deals done if change comes but I think there will be a lot of - what's the non-military equivalent of sabre rattling? Pen rattling (?) for public consumption - not wanting to be seen to give etc etc etc. A tedious and long process of bluster and bluff on both sides.
  23. It'd be petty yes but not unexpected - no one outside Scotland has had a say in the break-up so the perception has always been 'they' get to decide whether they stay or go - whatever they decide the rest have to live with. This kind of enforced, by-standing impotence leads to a desire for payback - however childishly motivated. The perception has also always been that the majority of the rest of the UK want Scotland to stay. Not sure if that is (ever was) the case.
