  1. Hi. I've had this posted before in the Trading Post section but have been advised by nice people that I should try this section instead. Not a new subject, so apologies if you've read it before. Hello I'm just throwing this out there into the universe and not expecting any replies, but here goes: I'm looking to learn a new instrument for a show I do in the West End-"Once" at The Phoenix. We're all actor/musicians and part of the show is a 20 minute session we play on the stage/bar before the lights go down. We do a mix of Irish and Czech songs and we've been doing it for a while now and each of us are trying to learn new instruments. I've attempted to learn the Tin Whistle but I'm struggling without any real guidance. I sound a bit like the 20th Century Fox theme on the flute- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGwwJEE7k48 Ok, not that bad, but I could certainly do with some of the rudiments. I'm aware that it's a long shot so I'm hedging my bets by also saying that I have an amazing accordion here that I could do with learning to play, so I'd be happy to try that instead if there's no whistle players out there. Rather than just paying for lessons I'd like to try a skill swap, so I'd be happy to teach guitar or give acting lessons, particularly Shakespeare (I've done a fair bit of that, including a couple of stints at the RSC). Again, I'm just throwing it out there. If you're not in, you can't win. Thanks for reading. Aidan
  2. What's that planet in the sky at the mo? Go on, look out your window. It's roughly SW.
  3. It's called The Large Hadron Collider. At best it will answer some questions that have been bugging physicists for years, heralding a whole new era in scientific understanding; at worst it'll create a black hole and we're all goona die. BBC Radio 4 are doing a live broadcast on September 10th from 6am. It's called "Big Bang Day". Andrew Marr's presenting it. It may possibly turn into another installment of his "Britain From Above" series... Here's some links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadron_collider http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/bigbang/programmes.shtml
  4. I'm the father of two kids who use that park every day. We also on occasion go to Warwick Gardens, Peckham Rye Park and that little one over by Sainsburys. None have the centrality or openness of Goose Green. It's a vital part of the community, which would be a poorer place without it. Its continued improvement is down to a dedicated group of people like Denise Fulgoni (who, incidentally, is the only one to give her full name; others have decided to moan and bitch behind hilarious pen names). Also, I love my football, but what gives youngsters the right to play football in a park designed for swinging and sliding?I can't think of any other park that caters for it, so what makes Goose Green obliged to? There's a perfectly good grassy area across the road. Most of the kids look old enough to be able to cross this road at the lights. I know this, because I'm there every day. It's thanks to people like Denise and Friends of Goose Green that they're even willing to entertain petty, snide comments from forums like this.
  5. Hi there, I'm in the area about two weeks and am attempting to get one of my girls into a school close to where we now live (Near Bellenden Road). Bellenden Road, St. John and St. Clements, Goose Green, St. James the Great, The Villa. Plenty on offer and I'm aware of the various Ofsted reports, but I have a healthy disregard for official figures and statistics, and would be interested to hear what kind of experiences and advice the forum could offer. Many thanks in advance. Aido
  6. Heard the same thing, though is a Virgin helicopter used by the emergency services? Or maybe they're renting out ad space... Cops had skate park cordened off, so maybe something quite serious, though it took at last 40 minutes for the 'copter to take off so couldn't be life threatening.
