  1. The practice nurse who has no idea that there are different blood glucose tests with different scales in different units of measurement that really mean very different things!!
  2. Good to hear. If you do ever need to go: Regent's Street, Covent Garden and Stratford have all been much of a muchness in my experience. You need to book s slot online, and you'll see how they compare in terms of available slots when you do this. I went to Stratford because I could get same-day (and easy to get to using Ginger Line) which I couldn't at the others, so it's maybe marginally less popular.
  3. My experience with Forest Hill Road group practice is that their reception is lousy, but the medical staff on the whole good. However, I've never seen the same person (doctor or nurse) twice, over a period of 14 years. I say on the whole, as a referral (written document, faxed to the hospital) I was given to Kings was so poor (scrawled, no info) that the staff at Kings said it was the worst they had ever seen and they were quite shocked. They said I should complain to the health trust. In the past, I've generally found it next to impossible to get an appointment there within 7 days. I was recently (2 months ago) told it would take TEN DAYS merely to speak to a doctor on the phone, for something that was urgent. Last year they told me to go to the Lister for something urgent - where there is a five-hour wait, to see a nurse (the only thing on offer) who cannot prescribe anything (she said). And this after I was told by Forest Hill group practice that the Lister would be able to prescribe what I needed, and that was the only reason I sat there waiting for five hours. I get the impression that they often fob people of by pointing them to the Lister. I have also in the past been told to go to A&E (by a doctor who hadn't seen me) - which turned out to be a bad idea, as I was highly infectious. Last year I had a mistake made on a prescription they issued, and spent half a day getting that sorted out. Their NHS website review score is not good - looking at the 63 comments, it's mainly over the issue of non-availability of appointments. And practice staff are spending a not inconsiderable amount of time responding to complaints there (rather than doing something more productive). I've been meaning to change for a while, when I get a moment.
  4. Latest TW message is from 3pm. They are expecting it to take up to 2 hours for pressure to return to system i.e. for you to get some water.
  5. Supply here is back on now. Though given comments by everyone else, I'm just filling some containers...
  6. I've just listened to the current recorded message. Message time is 11.15am (it's now 12.59pm). No info re any water to be supplied. Message will be updated 1.15pm, they say.
  7. :-) I'm sure you'll be fine, tash. Back in the day, not so long ago (early 80s), I remember visiting the then Lambeth Walk public baths for a fantastic bathing experience. Hot water pressure to die for. I think it cost one-pound-something. You could do your laundry downstairs too.
  8. Cable 'locks' are pointless. Anyone who wants to take the bike will be through that within half a second. Cable 'locks' merely attach your bike to something. These things should really not be sold as 'locks'.
  9. Lots of springs on that hill. I know the houses 'above' Norman Court have long suffered from subsidence.

  11. Just spoke to TW again. JCB on its way to start digging hole. Police on site. Road closed. TfL on site. Broken 4" main. They haven't actually started digging yet, apparently. (This info was notified to TW cust services 15 minutes ago.) The 6-hour legal guarantee for water only kicks in once they reach the main (by digging) and cut the supply, they say. NOT from when your water supply stops. They say they have ordered a few pallets of water, but there are no locations agreed yet, and it will be first come first served (with a hint from the person that I spoke to that there won't be enough initially and they will order more later).
  12. The water was off before 7am, jambesb, when I popped to the loo and found no cold water. What they told you seems to suggest they are avoiding delivering any water for the time being, as it will cost them money. Given that it will be different people digging the road and mending the pipes, versus delivering water, they really shouldn't have a problem doing these two things at the same time... unless their only concern is saving money.
  13. I've just spoken to Thames Water. I did confirm to them which roads (all reported here so far) are without water. They are still determining where they will deliver water to, and how much. More news in another hour, they say.
  14. I'd imagine Melford is also without water, then. So that makes around 10 roads.
  15. TW recorded message now confirms burst main on Lordship Lane as the cause (before they had Barry Road leak as the cause). They are on site. Next update due 11.15am. No mention of water delivers/pallets/standpipe. I'm glad I kept the 10 litres of TW Courtesy Water from the last water failure... along with a 20 litre container of my own. Essential these days if you have a modern combi-condensing boiler and so no cold water tank.
  16. No water on Mount Adon either since early doors today. Thames 'live' water map only shows 'water leak' Barry Rd and traffic disruption since 7.30am, nothing on Lordship Lane. And no suggestion that anybody is without water. Next TW phone message update is due at 9.15am. We had the same thing happen last summer, 18 hours without water, no standpipe, no water delivered for >12 hours on the hottest day of the year. Ended up having to call councillors to get them to kick TW up the backside. Note that on that occasion, TW said they had no idea people were without water on certain roads including this one, and in fact denied this was the case. But on the other hand, they had no mechanism for gathering that info!
  17. Rockwool Flexi is what I have recently installed in ground floor, with the help of my odd-job man. Available from Jewson's in Peckham. Buy 'depth' to suit your joists (it comes in different depths and widths. Method: lift the floorboards clean out any builder's debris use garden netting and staple gun to create 'bed' of netting between joists to hold the Flexi (staple into top of each joist) cut and fit Rockwool Flexi (easy). The material flexes to fit between the joists, and the netting is really just a 'just in case' replace floorboards fit hardboard over the floorboards, and staple down into the floorboards tape around each hardboard joint, including joins with skirting This solution means you have insulation for radiation, for draughts... i.e. it covers all the angles. Unlike other products, Rockwool Flexi is specifically designed to fit to suspended ground floors (which is what I assume you have). Ah, just remembered, you are installing wooden flooring. Then you don't need the hardboard. But the recommendation for Rockwool Flexi still stands.
  18. Claims to be a charity shop. But no sign of anything mentioning any charity in particular, or the name of any charity, as far as I can see.

I changed from 35 to 176 without problems, though some old Rasta guy who got on the bus and sang the whole way to ED about fire and burning was a little unnerving ;-)
  20. BillyPilgrim Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Anyone know if the EDT is open? It was when I came past an hour ago, but also five police vehicles with sirens screaming heading for that section of LL and some shall we say 'unusual groups' (for ED) hovering nearby. I really wouldn't head down there for a drink today.
  21. thecrazy48 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > My brother has just text me to say a group is > already gathering on Camberwell Green. Here we go > again... I came through Camberwell Green around 2pm, and there was nothing happening, except Butterfly Walk had the shutters down, along with many other shops (but perhaps surprisingly, not Gregg's). Unusually large numbers of ambulances around King's though...
  22. I've just come down through south London via Elephant, Walworth Road, Camberwell Green, LL, on the buses. I had heard - on the Guardian website - that there was trouble on Denmark Hill/outside MacDonalds, with looting and people taking shelter in local shops. Nothing going on when I got there - 2.20 - but most shops (80%) had the shutters down or half down (100% up in Camberwell Rd). Lots of damage around junction East St/Walworth Rd, and people doing repairs (including the Sally Army shop). Shops on Denmark Hill mostly shut. Some businesses on Champion Hill (?) also shut. Lots of hold-ups, traffic, police cars, sirens blazing, as soon as came over brow of hill into ED. Atmosphere on LL felt somewhat ugly/odd, and some strange types around (not your normal ED LL experience). Plough shops being advised to close. 35 and 176 buses running okay 30 minutes ago. But things seem to be changing minute by minute.
  23. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/jul/24/ac-dc-bon-scott-kevin-mckenna Perhaps we could have a memorial statue at the building concerned, and a re-naming of Overhill Road to Highway to Hell?
  24. I've virtually given up on this bus. I have waited for almost an hour for one on a Saturday afternoon. Weekdays, if I need to get to Brixton and beyond in the morning (7-9am) I find it's quicker to go to Camberwell Green and get a bus from there, which is fairly ridiculous. I have turned down client work on several occasions because the client is located on this route (37 bus + Battersea Bridge Rd traffic lunacy = better off watching paint dry). Of course I could cycle the route, but not very feasible when loaded down with lots of heavy electronic equipment etc. In general, routes across south London - as opposed to in and out of the centre - tend to be badly served. Why should it be so difficult to get from ED to Brixton or Streatham or Clapham or Crystal Palace? The distances are nothing. (And while we're on poor services, can I mention the 363 from Peckham via south side of ED to Crystal Palace, where the service has gone really downhill in recent months. The display says '19 minutes', then '16 minutes', then the bus disappears altogether from the display, presumably turned around in Peckham. A wait of 30-40 minutes southbound from ED LL-Wood Vale junction is not unusual.)
