  1. Tessa Custom Cabinetry! Tessa built us some terrific alcove wardrobes. They are beautifully designed - she has an art background and a great eye for proportions. Her quote was very competitive and she includes painting - which very few other people seem to. Her Instagram handle is tessa_custom_cabinetry
  2. Tessa has just built us some terrific alcove wardrobes. They are beautifully designed - she has an art background and a great eye for achieving the right proportions and balance. Her quote was very competitive and she includes painting - which very few other people seem to. Check out her creations at https://www.instagram.com/tessa_custom_cabinetry/
  3. James very helpfully removed a pair of radiators for us today.
  4. The amazing Helen, who was behind many of the lovely treats at the much-missed Homemade on Barry Road, recently catered for my wedding. She did a wonderful job, working within my limited budget to produce a fork buffet lunch for 50 adults and 25 kids. I wanted something light and summery so she came up with a gourmet selection of tarts, quiches and salads, plus sandwiches and healthy kebabs for the kids, then strawberries and cream for pudding. She did the cakes too - citrus polenta drizzle cake and chocolate Guinness cake, both incredible. Best of all everyone raved about the food afterwards. Highly recommended, superb food for any occasion. For contact details visit http://monkeyandmolasses.com (See pics of my wedding food on the website!)
  5. Jim Cox recently did an outstanding job fitting some Westex Carpet to our stairs. He even forgave us for sourcing the factory-second carpet ourselves and managed to cut around the flaws to give us a super posh looking entrance for a very good price. We join the long list of happy customers who have previously sung his praises on the East Dulwich Forum. Jim Cox 07901834901
  6. Darren just did a top job on our bathroom, installing a new toilet and sink unit, fixing the dodgy bits and throwing in a bit of kitchen tiling too. Two friends had recommended him ("Not a tooth-sucker" as one put it), particularly for his willingness to listen to the customer and his knack for finding intelligent ways around problems (rather than bodging things). He was really competitively priced. Can't praise him highly enough. Details are: Darren Bedwell, Castle Plumbing 07538723971. He is also listed on Rated People http://www.ratedpeople.com/profile/castle-plumbing-1/
  7. Hi, try KD Carpentry. Details and recommendations in ED Forum link below http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,1085302,1127020#msg-1127020
  8. A big thank you to George Nelson and his team from "Trees R Us" for doing an amazing job re-pollarding our monstrously overgrown poplar tree this week. They were very careful, cleaned up brilliantly and put in long hours to get the job done at a very competitive price. See pic for an indication of the scale of the job... www.treesrus-treecare.co.uk 020 35356931 or 07944208079
  9. I just recommended Kerry Dunstan elsewhere on this list, very good City & Guilds trained carpenter. http://www.kd-carpentry.co.uk/ 07988 333 509
  10. I'd like to recommend Kerry Dunstan who has just completed his second round of carpentry works at our place with great skill and good humour. I found him after calling around local joineries to find someone who could make a set of stairs and fit engineered floorboards. Oak Joiney, formerly of Forest Hill, recommended him on the basis that he used to work for them. He did a great job with the floor in our hall and landing and has just re-hung some doors and sorted out several niggling areas around the house. He has even been on DIY SOS! A good bloke and top tradesman who takes pride in his craft. http://www.kd-carpentry.co.uk/ 07988 333 509
  11. Hi, We hired Gary Vu to do a heap of fiddly electrics at our house before Christmas and he did a top job. He has lots of forum recommendations and is a really lovely bloke. Gary Vu 07872178044
  12. Another happy customer here. Miguel is lovely and a very experienced and versatile hairdresser (tv, hair shows, post-chemo wig fittings, the lot!) FYI his landline is out until the end of February thanks to a BT fault so the only way to get in touch and book is by mobile: 07503473191.
  13. http://www.tigerstores.co.uk/store_locator.html Just discovered this shop - something for everyone and most of it is less than ?10 (in fact plenty for less than ?5). Lewisham Centre is nearest for south Londoners.
  14. Here's a link to The Sydenham Forum http://forum.sydenham.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=6722&p=52186 with more stuff to do in the Forest Hill area. We're also loving rhyme time in Grow Mayow garden, Mayow Park. It's ?1.50 per family plus a few coins for tea and biscuits afterwards from 10.15am on Tuesdays.
  15. We had great success with a square plastic container/bucket lined with a duvet. Another friend did the same with a baby bath. It was just big enough to accommodate outstretched legs and a few toys and the duvet prevented any damage to baby from "face plants". We only needed it for a few weeks so no need to buy bumbos or similar. But as with all baby kit, never leave them unattended. Good luck
  16. Hi all, Just received my second load of Mama Feels Good breastfeeding tops and couldn't resist urge to shout about them. really reasonably priced and good quality. Plain long-sleeve b/f top is my favourite. The only downside is that the sizes are a bit unkind to those wishing they were back to pre-baby size - i had to opt for a size L rather than M :( www.mamafeelsgood.com
  17. I can also highly recommend Greg. Found him through the forum and he did a top job fixing up lots of tricky bits and pieces that we were never going to get round to. Very professional and highly skilled. 07949640999
  18. They do have party times set aside on weekends: 3-4.30pm or 3-5.30pm (according to brochure I took home). The weekend play sessions are 1.5 hours from 11am or 1pm and the Dads' time is 9.30-11am on Saturdays. The phone number is 020 86498441 if you want to double check before making the trip. Enjoy!
  19. Open 7 days, with a special session for dads on Saturday mornings.
  20. Just had to let people know about a great soft play space I discovered yesterday. It's at 89 London Road in Croydon, about 200m from West Croydon station. No exactly local but very easy to get to by train or bus from the areas around ED and perfect for a rainy day. There's a two-tier soft play zone, including a slide and ball pit, a second soft play zone for smaller children, a baby play space, books corner, sensory room, craft room and play kitchen and each two-hour session only costs ?1! All the equipment was really clean and top quality. There is also a cafe with reasonably priced kids food, cakes, tea and coffee. One of the lovely staff members said it was at risk of closure (thanks to the Government's idiotic re-jig of Sure Start) so I'd urge anyone who is looking for this kind of space to give it a go and help its case to stay open.
