  1. ?1,750,000 "doer upper" https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-82806968.html I know it's a massively desirable road, and a huge house, but I still find it hilarious.
  2. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations/advice about home security systems? I'm moving soon and would like to get something in place, as we already had a minor break in before even moving in. (They went in through a downstairs window at the back and took the only thing of value in the house, a bottle of wine we had brought for our new neighbours. A bit frustrating as I thought the garden of a mid-terrace would be quite secure, but such is life.) I'm happy to go pretty nuclear with it, cameras, alarms etc, but I don't want to look like a drug lord, I'd like to keep it subtle. I also have a cat, so it would need to tolerate cat related movement. I know there's lots of techy systems out there, I would love any tips, feedback or advice from others experiences.
  3. Madhur Jaffrey's cookbook Eastern Vegetarian Cooking is really good, I have an old copy that I use for a lot of inspiration when I'm like, what the heck should I do with this brocolli/cabbage/bag of carrots??? I think you can get fresh turmeric from Village Grocer on Bellenden Rd (the one that used to be called Payless).
  4. Hi Mutasmum, I?m so sorry Muta is missing. I don?t think that he is the cat I saw, from your photo his fur looks very soft and silvery, the cat I saw looked a bit older and his fur was a little more coarse and brown. I do hope Muta comes home! Best wishes, Kate
  5. I may be being over the top, but I am a cat lover and know my neighbourhood cats well, and this fellow seemed lost. This cat was spotted just now around the upper section of Chadwick Rd, photographed through the fence of the Print Village units. I haven?t seen him around here before (pretty sure it?s a him), and he seemed to want to be friendly but also quite nervous, making me feel he may have wandered too far from home and be lost. Lovely markings around eyes, and a thick bottle brush striped tail.
  6. The idea is that you sell stuff outside your house, but lots of people in the same area do it as well, making it a fun day for locals to wander about buying each others stuff. One person's trash is another's treasure! It looks like there used to be a good infrastructure set up (search for Jumble Trail on FB), but that seems to have stopped now. Why not just give to a charity shop I hear you ask? We've been having a clear out, and I feel like a lot of the stuff isn't quite charity shop material, but would still be useful for someone! Like a partially used artist's set of paints. You could always give all your proceeds to charity. People are often away over bank holiday weekends, and summer holidays, so I was thinking Saturday 29th June would be a good time? I'd love to know if anyone else fancies this!
  7. Chadwick Rd, about 22:40 05/06, had a very friendly man knock on my door saying he was a new neighbour of mine, so nice to meet me etc. He was about to dive into his story about how he had parked his car somewhere and needed some money to get it out of the garage, but I stopped him short because I recognised him as having come to door with the same story around Christmas 2016. I really remembered the incident in 2016 and told him so, he had given a different house number that time, and it was a large number and I didn't think my street numbers went up that high. At first he said but how could that be me, I'm your new neighbour, but then sheepishly walked off. Tried to phone 101 non-emergency police, but after 30mins of ringing I gave up and went to bed. Then get all philosophical about how trust and help between neighbours is so important, and was angry that this guy was degrading that trust.

There are still some spaces left for the 9th September class, I teach everything you need to know about quilting from start to finish, and it's a nice day of chatting, tea and cake. Hopefully see some of you there!
  9. We got married at The Asylum and had our reception at The Rye pub. The staff were amazing, and Charlie the manager was fantastic. We hired the whole place, had a fancy BBQ buffet for food (which was what we wanted, but they have done sit down meals for weddings before), and they organised a late license, which was important to us because our ceremony wasn't until 4pm. Highly recommended!
  10. Hi, I'd love to find out more details about the classes, where are they held, what time, and how do you book? Thanks! Kate
  11. I'm so glad you found Madge :) xxx (the girl who saw her last night near Bellenden Rd)
  12. Just had Mike change an extractor fan in our bathroom, it's the third job in as many months that he's done for us, he's becoming our go-to guy! Always responds quickly, very pleased
  13. Rang Mike in a bit of a panic on Sunday as another handyman had somehow messed up the wiring on our boiler. Mike was able to come round that evening and got it all sorted for us, he even made the thermostat box read it's timer instructions which it didn't do before!
  14. I used VP removals to move recently, and they were an absolute DELIGHT. As I think someone else mentioned, their quote was half of what another company quoted me. They arrived promptly at 9am and worked solidly until 3pm packing up our whole flat, and then the next day disassembled furniture and moved us to our new place. (This worked out really nicely, because it meant I had the afternoon after packing to start cleaning my flat with everything boxed up and out of the way.) Everything was extremely well packed, nothing at all broken or damaged, and all the boxes were clearly labelled. Both Peter and his colleague were very polite, friendly and let me ride in the van with them to the new house with my cat in her carrier on my lap. This was the first time I had 'splashed out' on using a removals company, and I am never moving on my again! They will be the first people I call when I next have to move!
  15. Just had Mike round to change a few light fittings, he was very friendly and helpful and did a very nice job, will definitely use again!
  16. Yes it probably does serve a purpose (and yes there has been some damp) but we intend to get a more update dehumidifier to replace this one. Good idea about the tissue.
  17. We have what appears to be ancient dehumidifier built into the hallway of our basement flat, that we want to remove. There is a small device that when turned on sounds like an extractor fan, and then behind it the ceiling is boxed in until you reach the front door. I'm just wondering if anyone has encountered anything similar to this? I'm not quite sure who I should ask to come in and remove it (an electrician?). It's still live (I can turn it on) but then what about all the pipes that appear to be leading out of it? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm just a bit perplexed and would appreciate any thoughts! Ideally I'd like to get this out of my life this weekend.
  18. I'd be really interested in clay plant pots, if they are near enough to pick up by foot that is :)
  19. Hi, we are thinking of doing the same, did you have any luck? The prices for ready made garden offices (with insulation and electrics) are so high for what seems to be a relatively small space! Did you get someone in to build one or go for a ready made?
