  1. My mate "cashed in" and moved to the stuicks a couple of years ago. Now he feels like a mug because had he waited he'd have got a lot more cash.

What was your reaction when Hamas started firing rockets again first thing this morning? And when they said they're in for a long war? My heart sank, because Israel have shown they#ll batter civilians, which is wrong. But Hamas really really really don't seem to give a shit about Gaza either.
  3. It was a good "campaign", they appealed to people's vanity and the people came flooding.

He's probably like the rest of us thinking "what a load of bollocks".
  5. My God, if someone threatened to punch my daughter I'd have to bite down really hard on something. And I'm not a tough violent type, but FFS!
  6. Basically everyone's an arsehole except me, right?

Heard a whisper (nothing more than that) that it might become a Wetherspoons in the Capitol in Forest Hill closes. I would much rather that than see it remain boarded up.
  8. So were they owned by the same person?
  9. Otta in. Er, I wouldn't worry too much.

You've misunderstood my post. Pubcos are the umbrella companies that sell leases to people which tie them in to having to buy their booze at high prices, and they are the reason lots of pubs went out of business. I don't think that is what most people want. I think anyone that would want that (outside of the actual pubcos that are benefitting from it) is a bit of an idiot.
  11. It's not really the fault of the people that eat in pubs Lou, it's largely the fault of the PubCos that made running a pub so bloody hard for the people trying to make a profit.
  12. As a complete aside, the mention of Dunstans Road made me think of a house (well garden actually) along there. About 10 years ago I "knew" a bloke (knew through other people, I actually thought he was a complete psycho) who was renting a flat on Dunstans Road. It was a very nice flat (first floor of a house). The house had an old petrol pump out front which was interesting, but the best bit was the garden. At the end of it was this little mini folly tower type thing, I'd never seen anything quite like it. Would have LOVED it as a kid! And that is the end of that fascinating story.

I could be wrong with this because I'm seeing it through a child's eyes, but when I think back to my dad using the CPT when I was little, it really did feel like a community kind of thing. And a pub landlord really was a figure in that community. Saying that was nice and that you miss it is not bloody minded, ignorant intolerance.
  14. A decent dealer does home delivery.
  15. Rahrahrah makes a good point in that there is a big open public space RIGHT OPPOSITE where they could hang out.
  16. Whatever you think of harking back, relating a post like foxy's to the BNP is pretty shitty.
  17. Because they pull in to the platform?

I moved in February so hadn't been by recently (and can't afford take aways at the mo). I really hope he's gone away for a bit, but I've always worried about how he'd last on that strip. Busy as it seems, I'm not sure he'd have really have had that much footfall. He worked really hard at it and went the extra mile, little things like poking a couple of air holes in the top of your chip box so they didn't go sweaty made a big difference. Fingers crossed it's not permanently closed.
  19. Still a market pub or two left in Woolwich I think (a lot has changed there since I worked there up to 2009).
  20. If you mean me SJ, then you should know better than to think I'd be on Twitter!
  21. Just because I said not all kebab shops are shit? Don't get me wrong, I use the shit ones too, and eat dirty doner (went out with her for 4 years at uni as it goes).
  22. Halloumi kebab, falafel, you're missing out AM.
  23. There is a kebab shop on Dartmouth Road called Sevens, and it looks like most kebab shops look, and would be dismissed by some along with all the rest. However, take the time to go in and you'll discover that he makes his own doner, which tastes nothing like the usual stuff, and his own garlic sauce (which is awesome), and his own chili sauce (which is evil and should be used VERY sparingly). He also does less common things like halloumi kebabs, which my veggie wife loves. My point is that it's easy to dismiss a kebab shop, but find a good one where the food is prepared with passion, and you're on to a great thing. Best of luck Ash, I reckon you'll do well. I don't think I'm the only person that would much rather a good kebab shop than a good fish & chip shop.

  25. George Osborne was on radio yesterday saying if we stay together we're looking at plans for them to set their own taxes and benefit rates. Which to me is a bit shit, we're either "all in it together" (bollocks) or we're not.
