  1. Yeah probs. Part of the reason the CPT died in the last couple of years is that the lease was up and there was no way the previous owner was gonna afford to renew. It was allowed to just rot.
  2. I should have copyrighted that photo. Louisa, whilst I basically agree with your taste in a pub, the fact it that they just can't afford to stay open anymore without doing food or something to bring extra cash in. As I said earlier, the only reason the Castle is doing well now is 1. They inherited lots of custom from closed / changed places. 2. They are the only place around that stretch to watch football. Reopen the CPT, Uplands, and old mag and they'd just be sharing those customers.

That and all the flags out front.
  4. Nah, I was doing pub grub with everyone else for the most part.
  5. There's a really friendly buzz here.

In the recent Tulisa case, the cocaine involved was 37% pure. God knows what the other 63% is.
  7. I haven't been in The Rose for ages. They used to have a decent open mic a couple of times a month.

  9. "This gone fortnight, I visited The Rose a few times, and EVERY time, I saw customers go to the bar and stand there while the bar maid faced the other way" It's that bad, and yet you went back a few times? Interesting first post. The Herne has new management doesn't it?

I hate that if you're generous enough to donate these days, you're basically signing up for a load of guilt trip phone calls. I got stopped in the street by a chugger a while back and ended up donating a fiver by text to the WWF. A couple of weeks later I was being made to feel like a right bastard who was more or less single handedly responsible for the deaths of the poor tigers because I wouldn't sign up to a monthly payment.
  11. This is an important message about your payment protection. These days I've hung up and shouted my "f**k off" before they've got to the s in "this".
  12. Oh my God, I hate those bloody calls so much, and everytime I shout "f**k off" at the phone, as if that might one day actually make them stop.
  13. It is indeed Mockers.

I was interested / surprised to read this in a BBC report. "The IDF says 2,560 rockets and mortars fired from Gaza have landed in Israel since 8 July, and that its Iron Dome defence system has intercepted another 556 rockets." Now I know the IDF may not be the most reliable source right now, but this prompted me to do some google searching, and it seems the iron dome isn't quite the absolute sheild people have described it as.
  15. Most of the pubs in the east end have closed down.
  16. Haha, no, just a time that is largely long past in London I reckon. Perhaps it's just purely down to the price of booze or people being more health savvy, but pub culture of the past doesn't seem to exist so much, particularly in more affluent areas.
  17. I have just discovered that The Commonwealth Inistitute closed down 12 years ago. Remember school trips there as a kid. That's what I always think of when I hear the word commonwealth.
  18. Haha, what do you mean, it's yp there with November Rain for production.
  19. I'm saying what the police guy said. I'm not sure I'd take my chances armed only with a salt cellar, but there you go.
  20. And a year or so ago I walked in there (completely unannounced) for the first time in a decade. Was really warmly greeted by several people, and that felt nice.

My old local in Liverpool took me in after a couple of visits, and people would wave good morning on the way to work. That makes a person feel like a part of a community.
  22. No one else was gonna give a shit ;-)
  23. I've never said other bars can't be great, and I'm sure the OP did just mean the best watering hole. But the term "boozer" is old skool and to me it means old skool pub. Many old skool pubs were / are shit. But a good old skool pub which becomes a hub for a load of people who will never necessarily have each other's phone numbers, but who will greet each other warmly in there, is my ideal place.
  24. Seabag Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And I thought Otta was after Otta Close off of > Kirkdale I've never even heard of it, but I shall walk up there with a flag right now! Cheers Loz, wasn't coming up earlier, but think it takes a while to show in searches, and the "in fopr the kill" vid was only added today.
  25. But I want us to come up in the reaults if someone just searches for zonderlings without the uk. With an individual video you can add tags, dunno if that's possible for a channel...
