  1. TBH I dont know anyone who h?s been to Claire's, my opinion is based on what I have read online especially the ones from pp saying they worked at Claire's and had almost no training etc.. I would probably be alright if I was talking about a 5 y.o but just don't feel right taking a baby to have it done at Claire's..

Thank you for your replies, I almost didn't post because it can be a 'hot' subject... Some pp just don't understand and fair enough I get it.. We have decided to wait until october and have it done back home, she will be 4 months then and I will feel more secure having it done by someone who does it all the time..

  2. Firstly I would NEVER do it myself. I also wouldn't really go to a place like Claire's, I have read too many posts by people that have worked at Claire's saying that they had almost no training and were given the gun to do piercing.

A tatto parlour would probably be one of the best places to go as they are properly trained and actually extremely fast and efficient, and are required by law to use DISPOSABLE sterile needles (you should see them opening a package containing the needle), and to use a professional sterilizer for any clamps or reusable items. (and to wear gloves etc...) It may take a couple seconds longer to pierce with a needle, but someone who is experienced will still be extremely quick, and a needle piercing will cause far less trauma and swelling in the ear lobe than forcing a BLUNT stud through the ear at gun-force.

However would rather go to a place that has been recommended (Saffron thanks for the tip, will check it out) as you never know with so many dodgy places in london.

????'s Mrs - as for your questions, my baby is 4wks as of today. I am not British and it's common in my culture to have girl's ears pierced. Actually this is generally done by a trained nurse soon after the baby is born and it is the tradition that the godparents give gold earrings as a present.

When I moved to UK 9 years ago I found it really weird that most women over here only get their ears pierced later on. Whatever one grows up with is the norm.

In my own experience it is a lot easier to get it done at such young age, it heals quicker and never closes compared to piercing in later life that in most cases closes up if you spend a long time without earrings.

The earlobe is super soft in a baby and will hurt less than an injection.

Saying all of this I would like to add that back home I have never seen babies wearing hoop earrings etc.. and it is normally a small stud, I had very cute pearl studs as a baby :-)

  3. Anyone know of a doctor's office that will pierce a baby's ears? I don't want to go to Claire's, or any place that uses a piercing gun... I'm trying to find a place that will do it with a needle.

Please don't turn this into a debate whether I should or should not pierce my daughter's ears. It's our choice and that is not the question here.

    Thanks a lot!

  4. I am back and very proud to introduce Rebecca Eva Amelia, born on July 2nd. Very stressful few days as was admitted in the day we started our move so poor hubby worked so hard to get everything done al by himself and I got back to a house full of boxes but we are nearly there now. Becca sleeps well so I manage to get a little bit done everyday (shouldn't I be having naps when she is asleep???)... Anyway I will pop along tomorrow with my little girl! x

  5. Well I had feeling that something wasnt going to go according to our plans..lol...after a whole day of packing/moving (still not all done) I took my blood pressure at home and it was high so called in and was asked to come in to be checked... to shorten the story I haven't gone back home since and am being induced tonight!! I have mixed feelings about it as I really want to avoid an c-section but at the end of the end gotta do what is best for my baby... hoping that once they start the induction my body will respond well and take the lead... one thing is for sure .. next time I walk out of the hospital I will be someone's mummy!!!
  6. oh well it doesn't look like I am going to make it today!! argh!!! Hubby was going to take the day off on friday ( we are moving) but when he got home last might he said his boss asked if he would take today off instead of friday so here we are packing like crazy... he has just gone over to the other house with a load full and I am having a little rest before I get back packing.. we are aiming to get it all done today so I can then relax and wait for the big day... That is if it doesnt happen today, I am feeling so emotional with the move, I didn't think I would feel this way.. all I want is a nice clean cosy room to lock myself in..guess it will be a while until I find such room..:-) hope you all have great time, the sun is shining for you,,,

I make yours my words!... My due date is in 17 days and we are moving in 13 days so I got carried away packing yesterday and am sooooo paying for now... my body is so achy..ouch... I hope baby holds on until we have moved otherwise we are in for a mad ride!!!

  9. Sorry I have been MIA lately and missed the last 2 get together! Hope you are all doing well and getting excited of what is to come!

I had my last 'proper' day at work, am off for half term and then back for a week but will be in and out due to a few appointments. Had a scare on Tuesday, had to go to hospital and blood pressure was sky high but blood works came out fine so hopefully it a one-off,probably my body reminding me to slow down!

I am pretty much around next week if anyone fancy a walk in the park and a cuppa let me know.

  10. BEWARE!!! That is definitely a scam, it's an absurd salary for an aupair. An aupair is someone who want to spend time in a country to learn a new culture and language, it's not a profession and an aupair gets pocket money rater than a salary. I have come across many adverts like that (have helped many people from back home to find families so they could spend some time in UK to improve their English) and' at some point the fake family will ask for money (have heard many reasons for asking for money). Also every time the contact number given was one of those you buy an uk number online but the call is re-directed so the person could be anywhere in the world.
  11. Audrey - I have been told over and over by midwives and at the scan that my baby is on the big side.. one technician even said 'your baby has a chubby tummy'. I wasn't impressed by that but after hearing from so many other mums that were told their baby was big and it wasn't right that I relaxed a bit. My fundal height has been measuring 2 weeks ahead since 18weeks. What p****s me off is pp saying 'oh my, you look like you about to give birth'... some people are so insensitive...

btw May 7th sounds great! fx for nice weather :-)

  12. oh dear me I am gob smacked by this thread...obviously I wouldn't be pleased if someone parked a van outside my door but I would be mainly be worried about my family's security and not about who is who is not paying tax... especially living in a country where some work bloody hard and some decide to live on benefits ( not talking about the ones that really need help okay. Also like mentioned before no one knows what s really going on so why waste so much time talking about it, life is short let's be happy :-)
