  1. doesn't gina mostly say "I'll see you in court" edited because its gina not gins
  2. Not good for me - I just saw it. I just thought it was a brilliant idea and one that should go down well in SE22. Somebody - admin I presume - renamed my post and now it looks a bit weird. Maybe in wouldn't work in SE22. Perhaps the residents like to slosh their cash at the tat shops.
  3. I've just been at a Give or Take stall in Acton and I think a similar thing would go down well here in ED. Basically its like live freecycling. I think Southwark Council put on an event like this last year but I didn't know about it. I wonder if its something that might be considered for the Dulwich Festival Fair. There's as excellent "how to" guide on th Forest Recycling Project page. They vary from place to place. The one in Acton was just a stall and they didn't take clothes, electrical items or furniture. Sometimes, especially if the council is involved, they test any electrical goods. Sometimes they provide a collection service (for bigger items).
  4. I totally love green and blue. I love the obvious care that goes into choosing the wine. I love that there's not masses and masses of choice. I love the way there are still cheapieh bottles and the way the staff will still talk to you sensibly about how to choose even if your budget isn't vast. I've had some lovely vinous adventures and was gearing myself up to maybe doing some tastings. Its my absolutely favourite wine shop and I really hope it works out.
  5. no garden and what looks like the garage attached is owned by the undertakers... Cold storage?
  6. Just walked past the shop and saw a repossesion order posted and padlocks on the door. I will be very sorry to see them go.
  7. If the problem is the litter then its certainly fitting of the area. The people who use the station have made the mess.
  8. If you mean what I have posted I think you are being unfair. Please read my posts again. All I said was that I know what Staffie dog owners say and I know that one of the most powerful arguments they make is that it is irresponsible dog owners who are the problem. I also expressed my gut feeling which is I find the breed a bit scary - whether or not that is justified is a different matter, but, to my non-dog owning eye they look powerful and fast and, off the leash or in the hands of someone quite young or not very strong, they make me nervous. Has anyone posted sweeping generalisations about people? I certainly haven't. I'm wondering if, given the late hour (:)) you perhaps didn't have a chance to grab the gist fully... Why do you assume that I am making some kind of social categorisation or judgement here? The only thing you might construe as being a generalisation is my statement that the dogs seem to be increasingly used as a kind of tough guy accessory. I absolutely stand by that but it that doens't mean I think all owners of such dogs have them becasue they want to look tough. As far as my suggestion that there is a return to proper dog licensing goes surely that would be good for responsible dog owners, the dogs themesleves and society at large.
  9. Mscrawthew - I totally take your point. I have done some research on this and I know and accept the arguments. I probably didn't express myself clearly enough. I do find it hard to believe that Staffies make good pets. Thats not say they don't. I just find them a bit scary looking, very powerful and fast - which is probably why they've become a tough guy accessory.
  10. I'm so sorry to hear about this. It must have been absolutely awful for you. The attitude of the police feels really odd. I know that owners of these dogs say that, with the right training, they can be great pets I find it hard to believe. I visited a dog rescue centre in Hammersmith where most of the animals they were taking in were Staffies. Often they couldn't be re-homed because they had been trained to attack or were totally out of control. I see more and more ofthem on the street, sometimes not on a lead and sometimes on a lead held by someone who, if the dog decided to would probably be unable to control it. Of course there are responsible dog owners and I generally like dogs, even the exuberant sniffy ones in the park but it seems to me that humans have to take precedence. I really think there ought to be a return to dog licensing of some kind. As far as prosecution goes the owner was clearly in breach of the law relating to proper control of his/her dog in a public place. It can't be allowedto happen again. What are the council doing about this? Whatever happened to cleaner greener safer?
  11. Anyone happening to walk down Plough Lane (you know who you are you random male street pee-ers and car parkers) should be really careful not to step on the Plough's trapdoors which sit across the width of the pavement. They loik as though they are about to collapse. The pub have been informed and have put a couple of plastic cones over it buts its easy to miss them and step on the doors.
  12. Interesting discussion about the practice here
  13. I noticed a big hole in the middle of the roundabout yesterday. I remember there being some talk of public artwork (cue fisticuffs on the subject of waste of money / artists shouln't be subsidised / oh yes they should etc etc). Is it about to land? What is it? Or is it just drains?
  14. Whats with the turkey neck references? Are you criticisng her appearance? I'm not a massive fan of hers but I think there's plenty more to talk about than the aesthetics of a middle aged neck. (edited for totally rubbish typos)
  15. Here's the link to the Livesey Friends website.
  16. I'm not sure - evidently I'm an unreliable chronicleer (misspellings, missing info etc etc) There is also a blog to which I'll post a link when I find it.
  17. doh - what a dunce I am. It was today. Really sorry about that.
  18. WE used to have chickens at the nursery my children go to but they got eggcised (!) after a flurry of parent bird flu fear. I often used to do the letting out and egg collecting over weekends and dream of owning my own patch of garden and keeping chooks.
  19. There is an open meeting at Ledbury Tenants Association Hall (small cream building on Old Kent Road, next to Kwik Fit, next to Livesey Museum) with Jim Knight Schools Minister for people to say how much we miss the Livesey, why we want it back etc etc. Its at 12.30pm for about an hour. Tea coffee biscuits provided. Parents, childcarers, kids 100% welcome. If you could let the organisers know if you are going that would be great email: [email protected]
  20. the second hand clothes in GRace and Favour smell wonderful (roses I think)and are beautifully pressed. I love that shop and the fact that I'm not blinded my choice
  21. In the case of tomatoes, its the more processed the better. More processing = more lycopene. So as far as ketchup goes you should load their plates and smile.
  22. no idea - I'm sure its got its flaws - isn't 343 days quite a long time anyway?
  23. really liking this site Of course I'm a renter with a family, and yes, I know people are suffering but somehow, and meanly, I like looking at it.
