  1. Just wanted to recommend Marcus. Another tiler let us down and I got Marcus' number from the forum as he'd had good feedback before. He managed to squeeze in a visit to price up for us. He was so efficient and pleasant to deal with that we went ahead and asked him to do the work. We're so glad we did, he managed to squeeze our job in, gave great and very clear advice over the phone when we were buying our tiles, made great suggestions when actually doing the job, came on time, worked hard, was lovely to deal with and did a fantastic job. We would not hesitate to recommend Marcus. He does other work (plastering and more) too and we'll be getting him back to do more for us we hope! Marcus - 07817 050159
  2. Hello Can anyone recommend someone to lay a flagstone/limestone type floor throughout the ground floor of our house? We'd be happy to supply materials or to talk to someone who could supply and fit. Thanks!
  3. Just wanted to add a recommendation here for Liam of Neuleaf. Email: [email protected] Tel: 020 8761 1758 or 07973 267399. He (and his team) have recently totally transformed our garden. They lifted all our plants, prepared the ground and laid a fantastic new lawn, edged it, laid a weed membrane and bark and carefully and beautifully replanted all the decent plants. Liam was incredibly helpful with advice on how to care for our new garden and his team were all friendly, polite and lovely to have around which was important with our kids knocking around the place! They worked very hard in very difficult weather conditions and left everything beautifully tidy. We'll definitely be asking Liam and team to come back to do our decking and to lay paths and paving for us and to help us with some general gardening work. They were brilliant.
  4. Just wanted to post to recommend Hamish Lodge of Cut Above if you need a tree surgeon. He took down several trees in our garden and ground out the stumps for us and did a truly excellent job. He spotted an older stump in the garden that we had not even been aware of and ground this out too. He and his colleague braved the snow and worked quickly and left the garden in immaculate condition and were lovely to deal with. I would not hesitate to use them again. 5. Sorry about the slow reply to the request for the description. The two blokes were white, 30ish, unkempt, one with gingerish light brown hair, the other with light brown hair. 5' 10'' and 5' 8'' respectively (rough guess). Both dressed in scruffy t-shirts, check shirts, jeans or work trousers. They didn't smell too good and I wasn't very close to either of them! They were driving a small van that was a very very pale, opalescent green. If anyone needs the registration number feel free to PM me. Thanks!
  6. Barry Road/Peckham Rye side of ED. Hopefully no-one else got a visit from these two!
  7. Hello. Just thought I would put up a quick post in case anyone else in our area has had problems today or is wondering whether or not to bother reporting a similar experience. Spotted two dodgy looking blokes having good look over our back wall. Next they knocked on our door (presumably to see if anyone was in). When I answered they asked for directions to 'the charity shop near the supermarket on Lordship Lane'. I gave them directions and they shot off. I happened to be leaving the house just then and as I walked down the road I saw them jump into their van and speed off. The van had been parked outside a busy cafe (so it seems a bit odd that they would knock on my door for directions rather than asking a customer or waiter) and although they disappeared following the directions I had given them, I watched them do a u-turn and head away from ED just up the road. I've reported it to the police (who described it as very suspicious behaviour) but wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience and if so, whether they've reported it? I've passed their vehicle registration number on to the police just in case. I usually give everyone the benefit of the doubt and wouldn't want to clog up police time with something minor but this pair just behaved so oddly.... I wouldn't want them to try their luck on anyone else in ED!
  8. Cheers. That's really helpful. We are in a conservation area which might make a difference (and I think is the reason that we've had slightly confused advice from the planners) but we also won't be making any changes to the exterior so hopefully we will be able to go down the same route as you. Thanks again for the quick reply and advice!
  9. Hello Am wondering whether anyone has experience of converting a property split into flats back into a family home in the ED area? Specifically, did you need to submit a planning application or were you able to carry the work out without planning or just by getting a certificate of lawfulness? Have had a couple of conversations with the Southwark Planning Department and have received slightly contrary advice so far! Before I have a third go, I wondered if the forum might have the answer! I would also be interested in hearing from any local professionals (architects etc) who might have undertaken work like this for ED clients. Thanks for your help!
