  1. We were in Dulwich Tandoori last week and the waiter asked us if we would like to book a table for the last day of eat out to help out - 31/8. Seemed like a good idea, so we booked. Just had a phone call from the restaurant to say that they were not offering the deal on Monday. No real reason other than 'management decision'. Like many people, I have been a supporter and regular customer of Dulwich Tandoori and so am a little surprised at their decision, especially at such short notice. Not their usual level of customer service. If you have a restaurant booking tomorrow and are expecting to use the eat out to help out deal, it might be worth checking with your restaurant.

All irrelevant to the thread subject "Purchase Masks?". I was specifically responding to the mask availability point and ignored the other elements which are a diversion and irrelevant to this thread. If you have an issue with pollution at this time, perhaps you would like to start your own thread?

Good point, well made
  4. I have friends in Thailand who tell me that face masks there are available at every 7/11 and Family Mart, which means they are available every few metres down any Thai street. Cost is a few baht a mask. If Thailand can do it why can't we? It's bizarre.

  6. I have to agree with Foxy. It is ridiculous Sadiq Khan demanding compulsory face masks for the public when such masks are generally not available to the public. Any such regulation would put extra pressure on suppliers and allow opportunists to push prices up even more. If the Mayor's office can guarantee a supply of masks to Londoners, at a reasonable cost or free, then great. If not, perhaps he should concentrate on making sensible suggestions that will not cause further stresses to an already over-burdened PPE supply chain.
  7. I walked down the Lane at about 9am. M&S, Coop and the organic supey had veg, milk and bread. The new cafe/ bakery opposite Kebab and Wine was selling sour-dough and other breads.
  8. I have an Eve mattress and am very happy with it. Is firm but comfortable and supports my back.
  9. The DC10 comparison is a good one. I think that the MAX brand is even more polluted than the DC10 brand was and so they will change the name. Most punters will not know the difference between a MAX 737 and an earlier version. As it is airlines are buying up second-hand 737s to fill gaps or moving to other types. How Boeing continues with its 737 problems and its military 767 issues is beyond me. At some point, they will run out of cash and credit and the US Government will have to step in. As the USA's last big commercial airline producer, Boeing it too big to fail.
  10. I live opposite Aneto and am sad to hear of its closure. It did seem to be a more successful formula than the previous iterations (Flying Pig etc) at least in terms of footfall. If Bills does move in then my use of the place will not change - occasionally for breakfast when I am feeling lazy or the odd takeaway coffee. The issue is, of course, rent. As a chain Bill can drive down the production cost of its food and drink by bulk buying and a degree of mass central preparation of food. The cost of staffing is a moot point, did Aneto pay above minimum wage or London Living Wage? I am sad that Aneto is going but I am not emotionally attached to the place and Bills will offer me a similar experience. My concern is that this is a pattern that will see the indies driven from ED and landlords populating the Lane and ED Road with chain restaurants and shops because they can afford inflated rents and indies cannot.
