  1. Obviously I would prefer it if the event wasn’t happening at all but we must count our blessings. I’m now a bit concerned about the remedial drainage project in the park. It looks a really big deal and large chunks of the park will be out of bounds for a period of time. I can’t figure out when the work will start - let’s hope it’s not straight after GALA.
  2. Yes indeed, they use numbers/percentages to their advantage when they make decisions. Low responses are just what they hope for, maybe that’s why they plan the consultation meeting at such an inconvenient time for working people and those with young families. 6pm has to be the busiest time of day for parents. Even if you can’t attend I would suggest emailing [email protected] to say that you want to attend but the meeting is at a bad time for you. It will all be on record. I love the way they will announce the venue on the morning of the meeting - like an illegal rave!
  3. Whatever our objections are (and there will be many different ones) we must complain to as many people as we can. Our councillors, MPs, leader of the council, events team, environment department, Cabinet member Councillor Rose, and anyone else we can think of. We have to make a big noise if we want to be heard. It can make a difference as in the recent CPZ climb down. If we do nothing I fear that our park will just become a commercial venue that we are allowed to use occasionally.
  4. Thanks for all that advice. Have phoned Southwark but they said it should have been queried before we paid the £195. No mechanism for a refund, not surprised. Suggested we take it up with Royal Mail. No barcode/date on the envelope so not in a strong position. Maybe if we work hard and persevere we might be lucky enough to get a free book of stamps! Thanks again.
  5. Royal Mail have surpassed themselves. A local letter arrived today but unfortunately 3 months too late. It was a PCN from Southwark telling us that if we paid within 14 days it would be reduced to £65. The offence took place on July 14th! Obviously in the meantime we got stung for £195 for non payment but didn’t appeal as we had no proof. How do you prove that a letter did not arrive? We may try now but not very hopeful. Royal Mail is a complete shambles.
  6. We had a similar experience recently but didn’t appeal. In fact we never received the first letter and by the time the other one came we had then missed the chance to pay £130. Ended up costing £195! Assumed we wouldn’t be believed despite the fact that everyone knows we have a delivery problem.
  7. Storage for cars is not free. Try leaving an untaxed car on the road and you will find out! HM Revenue & Customs definition on Vehicle Excise Duty : ‘V.E.D. is a tax on vehicles Used or Kept on public roads and rates depend on vehicle type’
  8. Has anyone had very slow internet in the early hours , between 4am and 8am? Seems to happen fairly often at around these times. All is Ok later in the day. Internet is fed from the Dulwich phone exchange - ADSL not fibre. Anyone know if they are doing overnight work that affects the internet availability? Been like this since last December.
  9. Help-Ma-Boab is quite right in his assumption and headphones would have done the trick. It's a regular occurrence and Sunday seems the favourite day. Annoying when you have a night shift ahead of you and you're trying to get some sleep.
  10. The drum beats are back. Can be heard all around the area. Who is doing it? Please shut your window or wear headphones.
  11. You may be surprised to hear that the noise was coming from a lot further away, unless there are two of them on the go! At exactly the times you mentioned we were being deafened and could not stay in the garden to enjoy a couple of rare days off. We had to close all the windows (on such a hot day) but forgot about the bathroom window on Friday when it was quite windy. I got such a shock when I went in there later, the wind had blown all the black dust in and every surface in my white bathroom was covered in the stuff. It was coming from a house in Mundania Road and I think it was just some DIY work in the rear garden, maybe cutting metal rods or railings. It seems to be over now and we'll keep fingers crossed that the next job will be quieter. Interesting to know just how far the noise travelled.
  12. Does anybody know of a food bank where I can donate some surplus food?
  13. Today I hired Santos to collect a washine machine for me. I really cannot fault him and would be happy to recommend his services. Mobile 07789904959
  14. I need a washing machine collected from SW9 8ND and brought to SE22 0SB tomorrow by 1.00pm at the latest. Can you help and how much? Call 07733017261
  15. I recently had to arrange a funeral and recalled a recommendation from a few years back. Not in East Dulwich but worth the short journey. William Dunphy, 294 Brockley Road, SE4 2RA.02086917943 were everything I had told they would be. A small, independant family firm was what I needed at a sad time. They are friendly, informal and really do go the extra mile to make sure you have exactly what you want. I also used Honor Oak Florist 02086991909 who were superb and so thoughtful. Like me, you may not need this information now but it is worth remembering.
  16. My email bounced back as well so I checked the address on an earlier flier and that works fine. It is [email protected] - must have been a typing error. I don't think that they are suggesting turning the whole field into allotments. It looks like it was used as an example of how the community could share the field with the footballers.
  17. Last week my precious Mum's life was hanging in the balance at Lewisham Hospital. She had wonderful care and we encountered superb doctors and nurses in the High Dependancy Unit. Thankfully she pulled through that critical time and is now making very encouraging progress. Nurse Lizzy from East Dulwich was an absolute gem and I will never forget her. Her combination of professionalism and warm compassion got the family through the most awful time. Lizzie - if you read this, thank you so much.
  18. Me too. On Friday 8th I used my credit card in Sommerfield at 7.30am then spent the day indoors before going to Sainsburys DKH at 3.30. When I paid using my credit card something happened on the system and the assistant told me to go to Customer service for verification - not sure why but it had been happening all day. The girl at customer service said 'not another bloody one, I'm getting sick of this'. I went home just thinking that their system was on the blink and found a message on my phone asking me to ring the credit card company. They asked if I had withdrawn ?250 from a Croydon ATM at 10.30 and of course I said no. It was this that had alerted them as I have never withdrawn cash on a credit card. We ran through my boring spending which is either Sommerfield or Sainsburys and there was nothing else dodgy. They really only seemed interested in the early morning trip to Sommerfield, seems like the card will be used very quickly after cloning. I am positive that I was the only person paying in Sommerfield at 7.30 and I'm always pretty careful with the pin number so I am baffled as to how it happened. From reading all the posts it does seem like Friday was a good day for the cloners.Thank heavens the banks are on the ball but we all need to keep checking our accounts in case something slips through the net
  19. Oh, my goodness! I didn't know that this was a Labour site.
  20. Yes you can still buy Vienatta and it's on offer at the Cop-op, buy one get one free.
  21. Have spoken to Thames Water who said that this particular phase of the project has now finished. They will still be working 24 hours a day but hope that the overnight noise will not be so bad in the future. If that is not the case I will contact Southwark Council but it's a tricky one. The work has got to be done and as it is it's due to go on until 2010. If they don't work at night it could take twice as long and I'm sure none of the local people want that. Once the summer comes and people are sleeping with their windows open it could become very difficult.
  22. Has anyone else been kept awake at night by noise from the Thames Water project on the Aquarius golf course (Colyton end)? During the day the noise is bearable but at night time the constant beeping of the crane and the crashing of the skips is like torture. It's been lovely to be free of the planes for several nights and now this has taken over!
  23. Has anyone been to see Richard 111 at The Broadway Theatre in Catford. Half tempted to give it a go but haven't seen any reviews in local press.
  24. Glad nobody is hurt, was really worried as it looks so bad
