  1. Suzanne James and her team are simply the best caterers and I would recommend without hesitation. We first met Sue 8 years ago when she catered the brunch following our Civil Partnership (which was stunning) and subsequently she has catered a few work and personal events for us. Most recently, she catered my 50th Birthday Party at home last weekend which was incredible. The event was flawless - with the friendliest, most accommodating and professional service team I have experienced, who went out of their way to make guests feel relaxed and special, with a constant attention to detail and refilled glasses. And the food was amazing, from the creativity of the canapés to the tasty selection of bowl food. How she and her team managed to produce such consistently incredible and artistic food throughout the evening from our home kitchen was a feat of monumental proportions. Sue's recommendations on the menu needed little input from me and the trust was not misplaced. I’m rarely at a loss for words but I can’t think of enough superlatives to describe the impact and taste of the food. Quite fabulous. And, the discreet diligence in tidying up without disturbing the ongoing party was hugely appreciated, meaning we descended bleary-eyed on Sunday morning to a clean kitchen, able to savour the happy memories of the night before without having to face a clean-up operation. Thank you!
  2. Julian did an outstanding job for us last year fitting wardrobes in our bedroom, building bespoke bed side cabinets and creating a study. He came back a couple of weeks ago to do a smaller job creating a new cupboard unit. Would recommend him without hesitation. He has an incredible eye for detail, knows how to maximise space, comes up with creative solutions and is meticulous in his work. He listens carefully to what you want, comes up with great ideas and he's a really nice guy.
  3. Julian has just finished fitting fabulous new wardrobes in our bedroom, created bespoke bedside cabinets and redesigned our study. Would recommend him without hesitation. His creativity in maximising the space was great, the quality of work excellent and attention to detail impressive. Julian was really diligent, taking great care to ensure precise measurements even to the millimetre to ensure that the erratic angles of our floors and ceilings didn't compromise the look of straight lines. Julian is a great communicator to ensure that you are kept informed during the project and can make decisions with him as you go. Open and transparent in his pricing, reliable and thorough, very happy to recommend him.
  4. Hi there, Humphrey our 3 year old, neutered ginger tom with a small scratch over his eye is currently MIA, Silvester Road / Whateley Road area.He is microchipped. Could you please keep an eye out and check he is not locked in anywhere. He has been known to wander into other homes (but is shy) but has never gone missing before. Please PM if you have any news. Many thanks, J
  5. oh LondonMix, who knew such an innocent question of 23 April could reignite such passions which have been quietly hibernating over the winter months.......

I vote for keeping Brissi in the old East Dulwich Deli (have developed a cushion and soft lighting addiction), opening a Prada (spring collection of shoes, hats, handbags and trans-seasonal trousers) in lieu of John Barnett and a Prawn-Mayo-on-Brown-Bread-with-corners-cut-off Sandwich Shop in the old "Golden City" on Whateley Road

    On your marks.....

  6. Presumably the councillors made an informed decision on the basis of the facts presented to them and the balance of reasonableness, rather than "rolling over" - had they been persuaded by the counter arguments they would have voted against it; that is what we vote them in to do. If you don't like their decisions, vote them out at the next election and hold them to account for the promised reviews. As for "no-one is a winner except m&s and freeholder" is odd if, as suggested by the delivery debate, a significant number of people will use the store, providing new choice on the high street and draw in people who will doubtless also bring additional custom to existing caf?s, restaurants and other great shops on lordship lane.

Surely after 35 pages of discussion on M&S and Iceland there can't be much more to discuss....that is until the planning application goes back in and we can start again at page 1 with a debate over the merits of a ?3.50 prawn sandwich or a 99p bag of sausage rolls!

PS....and no, I haven't checked the prices are accurate as at this second!

  8. Steve Loftus's growing reputation on the Forum (Back to Wood floor Sanding) is very well deserved - he and Nicola have just finished doing 4 rooms and 3 flights of stairs for us. Everything from start to finish has significantly exceeded expectations. Came round to give us a quote within 48 hours of asking, got the quote the same day, clear transparent and competitive pricing - he clearly knows his stuff! Started and finished on time as promised, really helpful and very patient in guiding us through the options (should the hearth stay or go, light oak? dark oak? light oak? dark oak? one coat or two or three?). Outstanding attention to detail throughout the job and meticulous about how the house was left - made sure all the doors were taped up to stop dust getting out and it was as though they had never been here at the end of each day - place left spotless. Dealt with unforeseen issues brilliantly (yes, apparently some people do cover beautiful original floorboards with three coats of paint and then randomly nail tiles in with as many nails as possible and top it all off with white lino!). Helpful, professional, honest and friendly.

The finished job is fantastic and would have no hesitation in recommending them.

And by the way, hearth has gone, light oak and two coats!

  9. We have lived here for 4 months and whilst have not needed rescuing from fainting on Lordship Lane, we have been struck by how friendly everyone is here. Friends had commented on the sense of community before we moved in and it has proved to be a happy place to be. It is great to walk down Lordship Lane (particularly on a sunny spring day) and see how many people smile and say hi. We are definite ED-converts! Here's to more sunny days, the advent of summer and glasses of winr outside at all these new bars opening up (irrespective of the merits of their new names!)
