  1. Skiing. Stupid question
  2. Nunhead all the way. Housing is cheaper for big victorians and there is investment coming into the high st and trendy shops opening - furniture - bike - cool cafe/deli - fishmonger. Also, Ivydale School has been recently upgraded to GOOD. Transport links are good. Ivydale area can be serviced by Nunhead and Brokcley train services, going into Blackfriars, London Bridge and Victoria. An easy walk back to LL as well if you are missing the action.
  3. I live near this and we were made aware about 6 months ago. The proposal is actually not to imposing, as there is a lot of land around the building to play with. I won't be objecting, as it will be a continued improvement to the lane.

    Nunhead - Opinions

I've been here quite a while and done well out of ED. Time for a change. FOH is now getting toppy I feel as is HO given the size of the places on offer i've seen (around the stations). West Dulwich is not a cheap area and hasn't been for a while, unless you go into Norwood/Tulse Hill. ED will continue to rise, but it will become more incremental than 10-20% a year. All personal preference though. NH offers large Victorian houses that are now out of my range in other areas. You have to take a bet sometimes. Thats what I did with ED when mates were telling me to stay SW, but the gamble has come off.

Interest rates are a long way off rising for 1. And the basics are, don't take on a mortgage you cant afford if rates rise by minimum 2%. But lets stay on topic. Whats the deal with The Ivy House in Nunhead. Does anyone know if it is being replaced? If it is, this could really change the area for the better. Come on Capital Pubs! Do another land grab.

buggie....do you not use Nunhead Station at all? I thought that would be my best route to LB and Blackfriars?

    Nunhead - Opinions

Ivydale School is our likely choice and the house we are looking at is within only a few meters. Any idea of how restictive the intake is? I here 200m was muted. Thank you for the feedback buggie an DJKillaQueen, thats really helpful and reassuring.

    Nunhead - Opinions

Thanks all. From looking at housing prices in 2010 - 2012 and the jump, there is a clear swing towards the Ivydale end of Nunhead which is great and long may it continue! I will celebrate when the one of the pubs in that area is dolled up a bit, as there seems to be a lot of demand from the community and that is a clear gentrification swing. ie Most of Lordship Lane over the last ten years. My initial question above comes from my fear of change! My partner and I have lived centrally in ED for some 7 years, so moving to Nunhead will be a change. Commuting to work isn't too much of an issue as 90% of the time I cycle, but the Mrs is a stay at home Mum now and I want her to be able to still have all the conveniences etc. and not be lonely in a new area. It concerns me a little about the lack of shops and less trains, but there will always be a sacrifice to make when you are saving over ?200k on a house, so I can't complain. I'm just looking for reassurance. My Dad has always said, when you see skips on the road, that means it?s up and coming fast! Which is what I saw in ED when I arrived and seems to be the trend in Nunhead! I would just implore ED business owners, open a second shop, open a new pub and take the opportunity!
  10. Dear All My partner and I are looking to sell our place in ED and are thinking about moving over to Nunhead, in particular the Ivydale Road area. The driver behind this is property prices and what we achieve for our money over that way compared to ED (but I don?t want this to be a property prices moan thread). We would prefer to stay in ED, hands down. I just wanted to see what peoples opinion is about living in that area and the relevant convenience. ie. coming back to Lordship Lane and the shops etc. Also, what its like living in that area, ie. shops, commuting, social etc. It would be especially great to hear from people that have also made the move. Thanks in advance djw
  11. This is a con man. There are several threads about him. He told me the flat above were having there's done, so I agreed to have mine done as well. Paid him, because he was vey personable and I didnt feel any reason to doubt him. He said he would just get the ladders. Never saw him again. You were right to turn him away. Never pay in advance. It taught me a rather embarrassing lesson.
  12. Hello All, Does anyone know of any local live music or comedy on tomorrow night? tks djw
  13. Its such a pain. Im going to have to go from spending ?2 return occasionally on the 40 Bus, to coughing up for a travelcard for an even longer journey! Dam recession and cost cutting!! Thank you for all your suggestions, I think when the time comes I will experiment and find my favoured route of those suggested.
  14. Sadly my company appears to be relocating next year from the City to Canary Wharf. So this stuffs my commute up totally. Does anyone else do this journey from ED to the Wharf, whats the best way of doing it? Most of the year I cycle and I will continue to do so to the Wharf, however in the darker colder months I rely on public transport

  16. Firstly I'm sorry if this is a recently asked question. Sometime ago I asked when the oyster card readers would be in action and Steve very kindly responded saying Sept 09, however, this date has now been and gone. Therefore, my question is, do you know when they will be implemented on the rail network? tks djw
  17. It will be cats. Mine seem to leave us a bird or mouse everyday at the moment. One came home with an actually birds nest (empty) the other day
  18. my inlaws live near heathrow, so Im there regularly. I go DKH, denmark hill, turn riht at the lights, down Camberwell Grove, then left, through oval, Vauxhall Bridge, embankment, earls court, A4/M4. Generally a combo of Liracarr and boomerang
  19. did this dog ever get picked up by its owner?
  20. Whenever I have been in there I have always felt the staff can't be bothered. They can't even crack a smile most of the time. Theres nothing particularly special about it, apart from that big old cash register they have. thats quite impressive
  21. Hi Barry Can you tell us when we will be able to use Oyster at ED? tks Djw
  22. buses to DH are far more reliable than 37 anyday
