Was it any good Sean? I was tempted but thought it might ruin the records for me, same with Roky Ericson who toured last year I think.

  2. Ok going back to late 80's now, but The Triffids are playing the Barbican in April, it's a tribute night with special guests to remember the long gone David McComb, a fine songwriter, and a very good live band during their day.

Never been to a tribute style gig before could either be great or awful, we'll see.

  3. mockney - are there two Denmark Hill stations? I don't recognise the one you describe and if you think the service for the past few months has been 'good' then I admire your fortitude.

and it's not about having a general whinge about public transport, though I agree us Londoners do like to have a moan about these things, but in general do nothing about it. The FCC service issue is really about having better expectations and holding the people responsible to account which I guess is what the First Craptial website is trying to do.

I don't think tony's post got off to the best start and talking about censorship is a bit ott but I don't think he deserves all the sarcasm either. though that is the way of the lounge I guees.

  4. Tony is exhibiting all the signs of stress of a regular FCC commuter and I can absolutely sympathise, it's an abysmal service and has been getting worse for the last 4 months, with the service problems only compounded by the bad weather.

Perhaps if the original post had mentioned the petition in relation to Denmark hill station it perhaps could have remiained where it was. It's certainly and issue for me and shoudl be an ED issue for anyone who uses the service so I find it a bit petty that it couldn't have stayed in the other section for a bit longer. But then it aint my forum.

For anyone who is interested in the issues then it is worth a look at the First Crapital Connect site and consider signing the petition.

First Capital Services such as the Denmark to Farringdon route which I use (17 minute journey) should be a welcome addition for ED commuters and it would be a shame if the issue gets lost because of the the way its been posted and then moved by admin.

  5. I don't think it's understandable to be fair, they could have done more or erred on the side of caution. Lots of roads and pavements round by me were still covered in black ice this morning, an attempt should have been made to grit them before today's snow compounded the issue. My route home wasn't too bad this evening but you could see the chaos on Dog Kennell Hill and I felt for anyone old or unsteady on their feet. It's inexusable that the hill at least wasn't gritted today as it had been last week.
  6. Go see Carlos Acosta in Romeo and Juliet early next year. Maybe it'll be 'too mainstream' for you but at least you'll have a vague inkling of what the hells going on and Carlos Acosts is the best in the world right now. Other wise just look out for some short ballets at the Royal Opera House, they sometimes do 3 different dances or snippets from more famous ballets and are a good intro and taster to it.

There I've exhausted my knowledge of ballet, but have been twice this year to similar shows to the above and enjoyed both. Only problem with the ROH is the cheaper seats are a bit vertiginous for my liking.

Right feel free to rip the piss in that condescending way of yours.

    Good - http://www.roh.org.uk/whatson/production.aspx?pid=10633

  7. Tis a very fine place Tillie, with the stone benches, dogs, chickens and a wonderful view. The fossil 'museums' a bonus too. Spent many an evevning there in my youth and always try and get back there when in Dorset.
  8. I'd second Swanage or Corfe Castle anywhere in the Purbecks really. There's a beautiful little village called Worth Matravers not far from Swanage, there's not much there apart from the best pub in the world - The Square and Compass. A lovely spot.

Not far from there and overlooking Corfe Castle is a little hamlet called Kingston with a nice pub (Scott Arms) there are some nice looking cottages near there which I've always fancied staying in, no idea of cost - there's a link here:

(Edit - wrong link if I can find the right one I'll post it!)

A bit further west but you can't go far wrong with Charmouth, Lyme Regis or Abbotsbury, all on the cost. If you want inland and not far from Poole / Bournemouth, then Wimborne is a pleasant market town with some nice countryside around it.

  9. I'm tasked with doing a similar compilation at the moment:

London tunes - fairly predictable - Up the Junction, Waterloo Sunset, Itchycoo Park, Going Underground, Foggy day in London Town, Guns of Brixton, Electric Avenue

English tunes, hmmm, When an Old Cricketer Leaves the Crease, Life in a Northen Town,

Guess depends what music they like too.
