  1. Hi all Babblers and Squeakers, We just wanted to let you know that we will be taking a break from running the Friday morning group for a while and so will not be re-starting in September. The reason for this is that as much as we adore the group, all of us involved in running it have our own children and with them getting a little too old for the group now, it will be increasingly tricky to maintain the weekly commitment. We have had an absolute ball and would like to thank all of you who have come for your help and support over the last 2 years. You really are the most gorgeous and friendly bunch! The good news is that your Friday mornings need not go unfilled. The EDT have got a brand new weekly group starting called 'Petits Perroquets' which will be run by local French tutor, Lucy Knowles - Ooh la la! You don't have to miss out on music and general Babblish tomfoolery completely though as we are continuing to run our grown-ups night out 'Social Club'. We'd love to see you along at our next one on Friday 16th September. We are still looking at different future ideas for running Babble and Squeak, so watch this space! All the very best, Tina and Kate Xx
  2. If anyone would like to have a go at doing this for real on July 15th, PM me. BTW, in my book, Dawn Penn = "Yes, Yes, Yes"
  3. Aquarius Moon, I would leave my drink untouched and be back on the dance floor as soon as I heard the opening bars of 'Time to Pretend'... I think songs with instantly recognisable intros before the main tune kicks in have a high floor-filler factor. e.g. House of Pain - Jump Around and Deelite - Groove is in the Heart.
  4. Ok all. We don't want any hassle on the dance floor, we're a nice establishment. Now,back to the dancing...
  5. Helena Handbasket, personally I would be on my feet for all of your playlist! I would also have been racing to the dance floor for: Atomic/Heart of Glass - Blondie Good Times - Chic Can't Get You Out of My Head - Kylie Groove is in the Heart - Deelite Ghost in My House - R. Dean Taylor Show Me Love - Robin S Fool's Gold - Stone Roses Guns of Navarone - Skatalites Do I Love You - Frank Wilson Stevie Wonder - I Wish Donna Summer - I Feel Love Motorhead - Ace of Spades Quite a mix of styles but I feel that variety is the spice of life when it comes to having a good time on the dance floor. I would have sat quite a few of the slower tracks out or gone to the bar and,to be fair, I would probably have sprinted off the floor when Toploader came on too! What's everyone else been dancing to?
  6. Thank you to all of our virtual DJs. Who knew that ED was such a mecca for lovers of all things disco? So far, that seems to be the main vibe on the dance floor. Anyone fancy any Motown, Northern Soul, Funk, New Romantic, Handbag house, Old skool hip hop, 90's big beats, Madchester baggy, Ibiza club classics, Brit Pop, Urban R n B, Indie, Rave, Electro, Pop, Drum n bass, Reggae or Ska? You can also play the 'wrong song' joker (a la It's a Knockout) once in your playlist. This is a song that sounds so bad but feels so good. You get double points if these go down well. You are always welcome back on the decks for another set...
  7. Ah, remember, the virtual dance floor is no place for musical snobbery! It's all about what makes people want to dance. Feel free to go and sit down, if you don't like what's being played or, even better, get behind the decks yourself and show us what you've got...
  8. A few of us local types are putting on a night at the EDT on the 15th July called 'Social Club'. It's a music, fun and games night which has a DIY disco element, where we invite people to play the 3 songs they think will fill the dance floor. It can be any genre, any era and there is no mixing or beat-matching required. Extra points awarded for originality and daring. The crowd votes with their feet. Which 3 songs would you play? *(Edited to update the details of the night)
