Free swift nest box & installation in SE22
Mabaker replied to DawnSE22's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What a great idea. Sadly, never see swifts where I am. I've seen them around junction of where Goodrich Rd meets Lordship Lane. -
Oh dear, what a faux pas

I've found something slimy lurking in my new pond. I didn't want to disturb it but it was in long strands. Could it be toad sperm?. It would be the first time ever if it is.

I found a stunned blackbird outside my house. I put it in a shoebox and took it to the vets who were happy to look after it. After phoning for an update I was told that the bird had revived after some refreshments and r and r and they released it. The biggest danger is them falling prey to the local cats. I wouldn't ever leave a bird or any other creature in distress. It doesn't matter what kind of bird it is

This is just a reminder for all you nature lovers out there that the annual Birdwatch is this weekend. For those of you that don't know this is a national count of our birds to gather data on how well they are doing. All the details including an identification sheet can be found on the RSPB website. You don't have to be a member to join in. It takes just one hour of your time to sit down and relax with your cuppa and start counting all the birds out there. If you have no outside space you can do it anywhere. Happy counting!

Love the comments about the old days. Monty Python's "The Four Yorkshiremen" sketch comes to mind. Those of a certain age will know what I'm talking about!

I get foxes in my garden all year round. Can't say I've ever been able to smell them. I do get rubbish dumped by the side of my house and other annoyances. None of them made by foxes.
-
No. Foxes have a right to a life
-
I've just come across a dead fox while walking up Donkey Alley. (Poor thing) . I've done a report to the Council to have it removed so no need for anyone else to.
-
I've also been here for thirty years and find it a peaceful place to live most of the time, so found the early comments rather unhelpful. There's nothing wrong in asking a legitimate question because it is unusual to see vans of riot police on the streets. Still can't answer the question though

I did see a black and white cat running into the garden corner of Barry Road and Friern Road around 1.30 this pm. I didn't get the impression that it was injured. Just posting to help with elimination of possible cats.

Royal Mail Late Deliveries and the price we have to pay
Mabaker replied to dulwich1955's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Our postman comes about once a fortnight. Parcels never arrive on time. I now check before I buy anything online. If they use Royal Mail, I don't buy it. I know it won't arrive, no matter what delivery time is promised. There used to be a councillor on this forum who would check posts and take up causes, James? It's a shame that we no longer have any councillors looking out for us. -
I saw a couple of bats up Dawson's Heights. Dust as dusk is arriving. It made my day. I think I might buy a bat detector
-
Sorry. That's not the dog. The dog I saw was brown. Not good on identifying breeds. Can anyone else who saw the dog help with identifying the breed? No updates yet either.
-
Thanks for bringing him food Angelina. I would have tried getting him to vets but honestly couldn't get anywhere near him. He didn't have a lead at the time.
-
Yes. Just spoke to the police myself. Very nice man. I can see the dog is calmer now. Policeman said they will stay with it and it will be assessed. They said it may end up at Battersea
-
Probably not a staffy so not meaning to malign the breed. I hope it gets the help it needs. I can still hear barking so suspect it's still there waiting with the police. Maybe someone who knows about dogs can identify the breed
-
Please be careful walking through Dawson Heights near Donkey Alley. There is a dog there. Could be staffy. It just went for me. My son is calling the police Update. Son has moved dog to Dunstan's Rd and police are on their way. Further update. Police now on scene. Dog went for them so they're calling in a special dog unit. My son suspects that this poor dog has been badly treated because it had marks on It's face. Also, it was exercising its jaws on a swing rope when my son found it so clearly trained to be aggressive .Not an expert on dog breads but it did have a big head. Might be a banned breed.

Can the service get any worse? I'm still waiting for my first class posted plants that were sent out seven days ago. No doubt I will eventually get them......dead! I thought I would try going to the sorting office to ask them to look. It is closed during the day between 10 and 4. How I long for the days when I could just go to Silvester Rd, more or less any time.

I saw a stag beetle in my garden yesterday. This is very good news because stags are now classed as endangered and in decline. Please consider putting a wood pile in your garden if you have the space. You can register your woodpile, complete with photo of your creation on the People's Trust for Endangered Species website. You can also record and photograph any stags you come across under their Great British Stag Hunt category. Happy hunting!

Do you feel brave enough to knock on the door and see what the occupier has to say about it? You could point out that there is a jay on the guttering and work out from their answer if they happen to have anything to do with this poor creature's demise

https://www.local.gov.uk/case-studies/southwark-council-reduced-mowing-support-local-nature Can't understand why Southwark Council pretend to be supporting no mow May and then go and do the exact opposite. There is no excuse for their behaviour

For the first time in a while I heard a woodpecker yesterday morning in Dunstan's Heights, drilling away. It's very hard to work out where exactly it's located.

Danger - ice on Barry at Goodrich Tuesday morning
Mabaker replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've just walked down Barry Rd towards Goodrich and passed what I would describe as a stream flowing down the road. Water gushing everywhere. Not a work person in sight. What is going on with this water leak?
