  1. Hi All, DOes anyone know of any carboot sales tomorrow? I think there used to be one at Dulwich hamlets but not sure if its still running! Thanks!
  2. As someone who used to be self-employed and living in East Dulwich I have to point out that Caffe Nero is the only place you can really work - it's not possible anywhere else, so if it bothers you that much why not just go to one of the other million coffee places on Lordship Lane! It's not freeloading, it's just a way of getting out of the house, not everyone can have a lovely office to work in. Also, I'm quite sure that if you ask someone for a chair they'd be more than happy to give it to you.
  3. Hi there, Does anyone know of a chiropractor or osteopath that is open today? My boyfriend has done something to his back and is in a lot of pain. I would normally ring Dulwich Therapy rooms but being bank holiday I can't get through. If anyone has any advice I'd be really grateful. many thanks, Rachel

  5. Hi all, Not sure if I put this in the right thread but here we go! I'm just wondering if there are any private tutors/one-to-one teachers who would be able to give me some advice. I'm a qualified EFL teacher and I want to start giving one-to-one classes to earn some extra money. The problem is that I don't feel comfortable going to the house of someone I don't know (I'd be teaching adults) and I can't do lessons in my own flat. Does anyone know of anywhere round here that could be another option? A quiet cafe perhaps? Thanks in advance for any advice :)
  6. Does anyone know of a good independent financial adviser? I'd like to find someone really helpful who will also be upfront about fees.
  7. Hi, I'm looking for a carpet cleaner for a 2-bedroom flat. We don't want to hire a machine ourselves so we need a professional carpet cleaner to come and do it. Any recommendations greatly appreciated! Thanks
  8. Thanks pcmesq :) Yeah Grainger's own team were brilliant, we never had any problem with them at all and they always fixed everything really quickly. I think that's what makes it worse that they were taken away and replaced with this company. It just really annoys me when small local businesses/services are taken over by national companies who are so impersonal and you can never actually speak to anyone in charge. Grrrr ;)
  9. Oh no! That's terrible! And they haven't been to do anything about it yet? I hope you get it sorted soon!!!
  10. :'( So sad........hopefully the new bakery will also be good! fingers crossed :)
  11. Has anyone else had a problem with Grainger's new maintenance company Kier? I live in The Gardens and am seriously unimpressed with the service! It's gone from an amazing local maintenance team to a company who so far have been a nightmare!
  12. Does anyone know where I can recycle ink cartridges in east dulwich? Thanks!
  13. Hi! I am looking for a place to have my 30th birthday party. I'm really not keen on a hall because I think it will only be about 30 people. I was thinking a bar or something like that but the problem is that I have 2 cousins who are 13 and 15 and I really want them to be able to come so I guess that rules out hiring space in a bar. The party is in October so I'm running out of time! Any ideas greatly appreciated :)
  14. Hi Charlie, Greg Ring is very good, I was in a similar position to you and I felt so much better at the end of my sessions. He also can do meal plans and things like that which I found really useful! His number is 07872 953628. :)
  15. Anyone know what's going on with The Gardens Cafe? It's been closed for ages now!
  16. Thanks for all the tips! Took it to one in Peckham with no problem :)
  17. Hi! Not sure if this is in the right section but does anyone know where I can take old clothes etc? I was gonna take them to a charity shop but have read that a lot of places refuse to take stuff and I really have a lot of bags. I was thinking maybe I could do a jumble sale or something like that if there is one coming up? Main problem is I don't have a car so I want to be sure I can get rid of them before I walk somewhere! Thanks!
  18. Hi all! Just wanted to recommend my personal trainer, Greg Ring. I've noticed a massive difference in my fitness levels after about a month working with him (and I was really lazy before :/). I'm not a very sporty person but he's somehow managed to make the sessions enjoyable, keep me motivated and, most importantly, help me get rid of my Christmas fat! Rachel
  19. Hi! Does anyone know where you can get Leffe on tap round here? I know you can get it at The Gowlett, which I love, but was looking for a place with roast dinners.
  20. Totally agree, Rye Books is AMAZING!! They give great advice and can order you anything, they even text you when your book has arrived, but at the same time they aren't pushy. Added bonus is that they sell cakes!
  21. I've never been to Melbourne Grove but I changed from DMC to The Gardens surgery. That's a good one but has a very small catchment area so it depends where you live. Another thing you can do as a short term solution is go to Peckham walk-in centre. The same thing happened to me once where DMC told me I had to wait three weeks to see someone. I got so annoyed and eventually one of the nurses told me to ring the walk-in centre and I got a next day appointment on a Saturday! Not sure if it's like that all the time but I was very impressed with them.
  22. Hi! I'd love to join the next meet up. I'm 28 and have actually been living in East Dulwich for about a year but have been too busy studying to have much of a life! Now I'm finished I'd love to meet some more people in the area as most of my friends live either in North London or further afield! Rachel
  23. Thank you so much!!! That is so helpful, now I actually understand what I'm writing about a little bit more :S
  24. Hey!! This isn't about East Dulwich but as I live here I thought some lovely East Dulwich people might be able to help me in a desperate situation!!! Basically, I have to hand my MA project in on Mon, which is a translation from Spanish to English about rights of Indigenous peoples in Latin America. There's a couple of things that have come up that I just don't understand and I'm wondering if there are any legal type people out there that can help me?? Firstly, anyone know what limit of sovereignty is?? Secondly, I have to translate something that translates as "diminished legal capacity" but in English I've seen "diminished legal responsibility" a lot more! Is this the same thing? And lastly does anyone know whether to use v or vs when abbreviating versus in British English? Any help greatly appreciated!!!! :)
  25. Thanks for all the suggestions guys!! Unfortunately Southwark sports club won't let the hall for teenage parties, this seems to be the main problem, there are a lot of halls but can't seem to find one that will allow teenagers!!! :(
