  1. Bottom of the hill as well - I saw them surveying this morning. I hope that the piles and tanking are up to scratch or it will be a pool. Logistical nightmare and mega expensive. Most houses around here have tiny foundations - good luck to them.
  2. Nice geo work. Your window ledge needs a scrub after 5 years. If you ever have the pleasure of visiting Japan - spend a day in Tokyo and go up to the top of the Goverment Building (forget what its called) and take a photo - then compare to London. We have it good, at the moment.
  3. May have been drawn on a Saturday - early doors though - the bike mechanic has made it in.
  4. Yes, if you drove off after the offence but before the ticket was placed on your windscreen. What will happen is that a reminder will be posted after the "pay half price" date has passed. You may want to check your reg on the council site (I know some councils do this) to see if your vehicle has a PCN - then pay it before it goes up. If they have photos then they will enforce it. I also noticed that a parking enforment patrol was on LL this morning with its erection poking from the roof - if they caught you on that then they will notify you by post. I hope neither is the case.
  5. I went to Prettys* on Sunday - served up a full English at 1pm, which they didn't used to do (correct me). Lovely food. Decent meat, quality beans, half mushrooms, proper inch thick bread, real tomato sauce (which for me is the key), a good slice of black pudding, good eggs and er.... leaves on the side. I couldn't move after that brunch. Best in ED in my humble opinion. Friendly too - probably the most important thing thinking about it. Now don't tell anyone.
  6. It seems like swings and rondabouts. I had my full medical history transferred to a local practice. But that seemed to mean nothing to them. They sent me to A&E for invasive surgery instead of a prescription. Need I say more.
  7. You can buy a wireless Yale alarm for about ?120 at ScrewFix. Easy to set up and bloody loud. They can also be programmed to ring your phone if they are triggered then you can call the Police immediately. This does require a bit of work as the alarm pad needs to be wired into a phone socket. If anyone needs any help setting them up then PM me.
  8. I can't recommend Aaron enough. Great work good guy.
  9. I have been to gigs where the stage was a delivery lorry - they simply undo the side covers and it opens up. Its also water proof and you just need to drive it where it is level. You have probably thought of this but I thought I would chip it in.
  10. The general idea of the porch is to contain the air while you take shoes and coat off etc - so it doesn't enter the house as much as it would if it were a single door. If you heat a porch the second you leave the house the heat leaves to from the porch. You can draughtproof or DG as Red above said but again as soon as you open the door the cold air will get sucked in - so is the expense worth it ? I imagine everyone with a small porch has the same issue. Spring soon anyway.
  11. Does any know for sure where to get some fresh horseradish locally. I would usually go on the hunt for this but don't have time at the moment. Thanks R
  12. I had the same problem as yourself in my place. To remedy this the floor boards were lifted and then 600mm x 2400mm boards screwed to the joists. On top of this was sound insulation mat and then the old floor relaid, screwed down so no annoying squeaks. Unfortunately it was messy and time consuming but it did the job. Plus the flat felt alot more solid under foot and possilbly warmer.
  13. Turn it into an indoor market downstairs. Upstairs small theatre. Above that workshops. Large out building turned into studios for all forms of artists. Then the old beer garden turned into the public entrance and evergreen wonder garden for all who know about it. Worth a punt.
  14. Do you have double glazing and ever leave your heating on, max, for long periods of time ? This can cause all sorts of cracking issues as the air drys out the walls then they crack, normally at the join between ceiling and wall where the most heat resides. A bowl of water on a shelf helps if you pump the heating right up. Salsaboy and Ramble are also giving good advice. If it were a patch up job you would have noticed it pretty soon into you moving in and not over two years - especially the first summer when the house heats up. If you are mid terrace and your neighbour is not having problems then it is fill, sand and paint job. If you are semi-detached on the affected wall then I would consider lifting the floor boards and looking at the brick work beneath to see if it has slumped donwwards at all, also a good time to check that your joists are in good condition. On a last note a 10p is less then 2mm in thickness, this size of crack isn't a problem - although I wouldn't try to repair until the weather gets warmer and then if it persists in getting larger then come back and I will take a look for you. Old houses eh! I also had the same problem in my own property but mine maybe have been for a different reason to yours. Best.

  16. I have done this before. You need a ladder, one long length of rope and a blanket/cover. Place the ladder to cill level at first floor. Two people first floor holding each end of the rope, third person at ground floor. Slacken the rope from first floor window - wrap arounnd back of sofa at ground level - use cover to stop rope marks on sofa - lean sofa up on end against ladder then gently and slowly pull the sofa up the ladder at an angle - the person on ground floor simply keeps it straight. Depending on window size a fourth person maybe required to hold the sofa prior to sliding it through the window. It is a quick job but takes a few hands and concentration.
  17. ?150 is alot for 1 hour, obviously. I charge that for a day and have tools for every job in a house. If you need any further work completed please get in touch. I live on Heber Road so local work is prompt. Best, Ryan 07804 247 368
  18. @LondonMix I'm not being snide - just saying how it is. It is a reality.
  19. Not being able to sleep rough for days on end due to the bitter cold can drive anyone insane. At the coldest time of year where can you get warmth, a bed and hot meals ? Many people choose to get themselves arrested out of desperation. Sad but true. This is why the police just let individuals on their way, it is seen as a release of a burden. On another note, whilst shopping the other day I noticed that a certain store has tripled security. Maybe a mobile soup kitchen in their carpark would be more beneficial using the food nobody wants to buy or can't now steal.
  20. Something reasonably priced would a good start - anything.
  21. You are not the first round here recently - VW campers seem all the rage for thieves recently. Not sure how to avoid flatbed removal other than to garage them or secure them to the ground some how. I will keep an eye out.
  22. I wouldn't risk it.....anywhere past the roundabout is a bit iffy.
  23. Thanks for that info - rian
  24. Out of interest - does any know of an "Artists at home" style gathering that happens in or around ED each year. There is one in West London each year which is very popular and a good day/weekend out.
