  1. I feel sorry for parents that find life very difficult. In or out of work. They don't come first - the child does. Can we now move on to immigration and non-dom tax.
  2. So we haven't moved very far then in philosophical terms.
  3. I would guess that the view of watching a cat being burnt and beaten was not really that amusing to them - but what it would have created is a thought in 'peoples' minds. Could it be me or the cat ? A show of strength perhaps ? Out of interest - was this show put on for the general public or simply when the King ordered it and then arrived to watch ?
  4. @James Barber I think Professor Pinker drives a Yaris to Harvard and then apparently lectures on possible causes of crime. Serious stuff, must buy book.
  5. http://www.met.police.uk/crimefigures/datatable.php?borough=md&period=year Interesting figures on robbery.
  6. OK 1 in 4 stabbings are by juveniles and homicide is at an even level. Job done.
  7. @Huguenot - So going back to my initial point - stats do not need referencing as they are pointless. I am also fine with the fact that a stupid kid will "grow out of" stabbing by his 30's but at what price - the damage has been done? Therefore knife crime justification is not on the board for me however small the figures are - harsher sentencing is required. To say that none of these individuals considered the sentence before they committed the crime is frankly absurd. And to say that they are unique situations is also absurd. Why are they carrying the knife in the first place ?
  8. @Penguin68 - What are the proportional incidences over the last 100 years ? - obviously taking into account population growth. Interested to find out.
  9. @Huguenot - My response was to DaveR and his assumption that only 1 in 4 have a 'chance' to go to prison. It was not an observation it was a response with a question. Maybe your analysis is.............. Give me your thoughts on the subject then, along with the accurate correlation of sentencing versus knife 'crime' increase or decrease then we can put this to an end.
  10. Fine - some prefer scars to police involvement. Thought, assumption and normailty are all well and good but evidence is difficult. Knife carriers may enlighten you if you wish to chat with them although I don't see many round here.
  11. @DaveR - OK - so the credible research has resulted in what exactly ? A softly softly approach that means more people carrying blades. And of course someone who has set foot in a prison would not talk casually about giving someone 20 years - that is the whole point - its not meant to be casual. In regards to stabbings stats - many go unreported.
  12. @KK - No digging for me, not the way I'm feeling today !! On another note when I looked at my foundations they were a single brick - quite scary really - I wish they were 1.5m.
  13. @Nigello - I always like to quote Sloth from "The Goonies", but not to strangers or kids. Other than that its cool with me.
  14. You can check in the garden by digging a trench to the level of your property's foundations - away from the drains. Even though clay is permeable it does have a certain impermeabilty to it so if it fills quick it is the ground water and not drains or mains. Also check to see if your boiler pressure has dropped recently - just in case.
  15. @Deliah/Chillaxed - Probably not my best point of view but I still don't see the relevance of age stats for blade carrying. It is their choice to do it and they should be severly punished whatever age. I work with sharp "tools" all day but I won't take one out on the street with me.
  16. @Che/Deliah An 18yr old carrying a knife is just as bad as a juvenile carrying a knife, and so on. Juveniles can generally run quicker - and hand over quicker. Stats do not show the true picture. As other people have mentioned, carrying a blade in public is not to be condoned and penalties for such possession should be far more aggresive. If someone, of any age, thought that they would receive a 20 year term for carrying a blade then I am sure the incidents would reduce drastically. Albeit we would have to pay for their time served. But make it hard labour - or clean up the dog sh@t.
  17. Call Aaron 07773410661 - more than happy to recommend him - very good standard of work - he has plastered most of our house. There are other recommedations for him on EDF too.
  18. Strange thing was the people that did the work came in an unmarked truck - so maybe a different sub-contratcor could do a better job i.e finish by replanting.
  19. Two trees have been felled on Heber Road recently with no sign of digging the root out and replanting which is a shame. For whatever it is worth, to me, it is a half hearted job.
  20. I am guessing Dulwich - but, for me, it depends on age range. Friends of mine (30's) live in Dulwich but spend most time in ED. Their neighbours (60+) never leave Dulwich. I have lived in Acton and now live in ED so I can always sit back and think I nearly made it ;-)
  21. The Actress has a big screen but best to get there a bit early to get a decent seat or position. Where the screen is - is quite narrow unless you are seated at the front.
