  1. Just wanted to give a big shout out to Patrick O'Flynn who put my kitchen in this Summer. Polite, reliable, thorough, patient, tidy and great value. No messing about, no BS, kept me completely in the loop as to what was going on. A bit older and therefore more experienced than most. Knows what he's doing in other words! Not a 'handyman' but a long served joiner and kitchen fitter. I tried to do most of it myself but when I realised I'd bitten off more than I could chew, he came in like the cavalry and sorted it out. Highly recommend. 07887 780276
  2. And trying my very best to fight the 'Victor Meldrew' gene! But it gets harder as i get older..

So it costs them, i suppose. Just to be clear, their leaflets aren't posted, they're delivered by hand; when i asked them which company they employ to deliver them, a smart, articulate member of their team said that they do the deliveries themselves and that he's the one that delivers to my road.. I asked him if could read English and if so why did he choose to ignore the council sticker.. He just looked at me blankly, like some robot who wasn't programmed to deal with an honest, simple question. Then the manager popped up and asked for my address so that in future they wouldn't leaflet me, (being a *little* cynical i declined, thinking that just to amuse themselves and relieve them of the mind-numbing boredom of their jobs, they'd sign me up to every estate agent's database in the land just to spite me) I just asked them to respect people's wishes, if there's a sticker on the letterbox, walk on by! In one ear, out the other.. Pond life.
  4. Hi A local independent estate agent continues to put their leaflets through my door despite having a Southwark Council 'No Junk Mail' sticker on my letterbox and despite me going in to see them and asking them (politely) not to. Any witty/legal ideas on how i might get my point across to them..? Best Joe
  5. Help! I'm at my wits end.. I bought a 5.1 cinema surround sound system to go with new flat screen, (TV: Samsung UE46D5520 LED HD 1080p TV, 46 Inch with Built-in Freeview HD, Surround System: Onkyo HTS3405) connected it all up, the surround unit has 4 HDMI sockets: HDMI1 (dedicated) from TV to the surround system, HDMI2 from DVD player to surround system, HDMI3 from Xbox 360 to surround system, Audio optical cable from TV output to surround system audio optical input. All fine and dandy and it worked beautifully.. Until the other night (and i'm embarrassed to say, alcohol is to blame for this..) I started tinkering with the settings and ended up losing the sound from the TV through the 5.1 speakers, (DVD sound still works fine though) The on air sound from the TV now only comes out of the TV speakers, try as i might, i've gone through the settings but can't seem to get it back through the 5.1. It might be something really obvious that i'm missing, in a 'can't see the wood for the trees' way. (still the festive alcohol probably!) Thought i'd ask here before calling in an expert.. sigh.. more money. Surround Settings Thanks, in anticipation.
  6. Can't BELIEVE so many people have responded to this brainless (if it's genuine and deliberately provocative if not) post. (which now includes me.. doh!) *ADMINISTRATOR* - Surely it's time to suffocate at birth any posts that mention 'M&S Simply Food' or 'Waitrose' on Lordship Lane.. Please!
  7. Hello Somebody sent me a private message re something i'm selling on the forum but when i try and reply, i get a message telling me my message can't be sent as the person's mail storage space is full. Is there any way the forum can contact the person to let them know that people are trying to send them messages and that they should delete old messages? The person's user name is 'jaybee82' Thanks Joe
  8. I cannot believe how many of you have replied to this obvious wind-up! It's in the same category as 'M&S/Waitrose on Lordship Lane'. Good grief..
  9. Thank-you, everyone. In the end i got him, Mort, Feet of Clay and Guards! Guards! That should keep him busy for a bit!
  10. Help.. I have a friend who's a big, sci-fi/fantasy fan, who has bizarrely, for a fan of that genre, not read any Terry Pratchett. His birthday is approaching so i thought i'd start him off on the Discworld series, i had a quick look online only to discover there are bloody loads of them! Can anyobody tell me where to start?! Maybe some of his other novels are better..? Any advice? Many thanks.
  11. Yes, sadly, most of the curry houses on LL are pretty standard (as in your trad 'Anglo' curry). Dulwich Tandoori about six years ago was very good, but whoever the chef was, at that time, upped sticks and it hasn't been the same since. (my mate and i still get glassy eyed when recalling his Chicken Tikka Balti..) If you want something a bit different, then yes, Ganapati is the way to go. I'm currently working in Leicester till the end of May.. Oh sweet, Brahma! The scales have fallen from my eyes. The curries i'm trying there are out of this world! A great selection of Southern Indian (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu) and Gujarati restaurants (mainly from the West and primarily vegetarian). Even the 'standard' curry houses are pretty special. Spoilt for life.. I think the only time i'll be going back to any of the curry houses on LL is after a few pints.
  12. I went last Saturday for lunch, under duress i hasten to add as i'm of Sicilian descent and whenever i have to eat in an Italian restaurant, my heart sinks as it's never as good as my mum's or what i cook at home.. And i have to say i was very pleasantly surprised! My friend had Spaghetti Carbonara, which in a large, busy restaurant, is very difficult to pull off as it requires a lot of care and attention; what one usually gets is either dried up scrambled eggs with pasta and bacon, or something drowned in too much cream, but this was perfect, the pasta was al dente and the sauce was as it should be - runny egg with chunky pieces of smoked pancetta and parmesan and a decent portion too, my friend couldn't finish it. My Pizza Margherita was perfect, a lovely dry base and charred around around the edge, the sauce (made fresh) and mozzarella were good too. Our other friend had a pizza with mozzarella, parma ham, rocket and parmesan shavings and again it was perfect and both pizzas were a lot bigger than Pizza Express's and a lot cheaper too. We were sat by the kitchen and i kept an eye on what was coming out and it all looked pretty good. Service was brisk and friendly. The bill was a shock, more like Camberwell, not 'Dulwich Village'. Now the trick is consistency, i'm going again tonight and will report back..
  13. I've seen Red Kites floating above the M40 just outside London and before the M25 and all the way up to Oxford, but i've never seen a bird of prey in central London.. I did hear however that Westminster Council introduced Kestrals (or Sparrowhawks, can't remember which..) in Trafalger Square and other parts of central London to deter the pigeons.. Anyway, needless to say, it absolutely made my day!
  14. Thanks everyone.. According to my facebook friends, they're all saying it's a kestrel! I think i'm inclined to trust you folks. I'm including more pictures that i couldn't get on to the original message.
