Hi - my eldest went to the villa and my youngest goes to goose green nursery (where her sister is now in yr one). I can't rave enough about the nursery and the school. The staff are lovely, every day she asks to go to school (even on none nursery days). There is obv masses of play activities going on and fun challenges set for them but at the same time her counting etc is improving on a weekly basis. I am v v pleased with our decision to send her there. Hope this helps your decision

Pretty's on North Cross Road
alixandjames@btinter replied to AmeliaB's topic in Request a Tradesperson
We r so totally gutted - we walked past at 8.30pm and the bailiffs were changing the locks - Chris had no idea it was going to happen - it seems so underhand of the new owner and tragic that a truly useful shop has been closed against a lot of community resistance. There is so much talk about saving our high streets yet in the end the council was powerless to step in. I can't comprehend why the new owners - landor land ltd - have not been more community focused ?? Prerry's will be hugely missed. -
I just wondered if anyone could recommend a solicitor or company they have used to compulsory purchase the freehold of a flat. Private message me if you can help Thanks

Chris at Prettys asked us to post this on his behalf because he wants people to know the sad truth about the closure of Prettys on Northcross Rd: ?The greengrocers has been at 47 Northcross Rd for 45 years set up by Charles Pretty ? 24 years ago he retired and I, Chris Burgess took over. My son Nick started working in the shop 11 years ago. Mrs Pretty offered me the shop to buy in November 2013 but we could not raise the money at the time. She put it on the market this year and I met with the current owner before the deal went through and he discussed his plans. We are sitting tenants and he confirmed we were safe downstairs and that he wanted to keep it the same but was going to improve the upstairs flat. After the deal went through we started to pay rent to the new landlord, after 6 weeks he gave us notice to vacate the shop by 30th march 2014 with no offer to negotiate a new lease because he wanted to re-develop the whole building and as a result we would lose our sitting tenancy rights. Apparently there is some loop hole whereby if he develops the property sitting tenants can be evicted. I can?t understand how someone can do this, not only to my family which will be losing its livelihood but also to the area, which will be losing a shop which still has so much to offer. Thank you to the 100?s of customers who have shown their support and signed the petition. If you know anyone with experience in these matters that can help advise us please let me know.? Regards Chris Burgess

We may be about to lose Pretty's, our amazing organic green grocers on Northcross Road, if plans are given the go ahead to redevelop the site. It's outrageous that this amazing, successful family run business who after 45 continual years (longest serving shop in ED) can be removed by a developer if our council approves their plans. We need to tell the council what we think of this and save our communities grocer. There is a petition in the shop please sign it this week, please also reply to this thread with your comments as the council have also advised they will read this. Please say NO to this irreversible mistake and lets keep one of the best and most valued shops and family run businesses in ED. thank you
