  1. I remember the Parson's Cat for some reason my mob always preferred 'I love my love' - I think it was because you could be as silly as you wanted to be.
  2. It's an old-ish game which my husband's mother and aunt used to play with him as a small child ( he is now 62) Both of our girls grew up with it - we used to play it whilst out walking from Dulwich Library - St. Faith's Road when we visited his parents. Both girls had an vast vocabulary and good imaginations, we had to teach it to a couple of their school teachers to use in class.
  3. One of my clients was burgled in Sunray Avenue over the weekend. Smashed the double glazing unit and mangled the frame
  4. We keep a spare topped up Oyster card for when our 2 grandsons visit ( different times) they both live in Essex one is 17 the other nearly 20 so never had to worry about cash
  5. Gumboots Holiday Scheme ?28 per day 8 - 6 pm East Dulwich Community Centre, Darrell Road. There are more details on another thread which I put up earlier
  6. Much of the subsidence in Barry Road was due to the poor management by Southwark of the trees, many insurance companies took legal action against the council for failing to maintain the trees resulting in over growth and root damage to sewers etc. That is why the trees are cut back very severely some years. My neighbour had subsidence over 10 years ago and he ended up paying several thousands in excess payments. His insurance company got some money back from Southwark
  7. Most of the projects will requires a CRB - I forget what the new name is and they can take weeks to come through. Anyone working with children or vulnerable adults usually require one even if it is for voluntary work
  8. Just reminding everyone that now is the time to book your summer holiday clubs. Gumboots have been providing Holiday Clubs since the 1980s to local kids. Works out cheaper than a childminder
  9. My kids loved an Alphabet game - do not know what it is called but goes like this I love my love with an A because she/he is (Adorable) her/his name is (Ann/Andrew) and she/he lives in (Andover) I took her/him to dine at the sign of (the Adopted Artichoke) and we had (Anchovies) and (Apples) to eat And Arsenic to drink. The next person can either remember the A routine and add their B details or just do everything with B Kids can make up the most daft details and also very good for vocabulary. Kim's game is also good
  10. My daughter is on maternity leave from her job. baby born March. She is returning to work after the October Half term and she had to go into her HR today to confirm when she was returning to work. They will not let her return to her old position in the college she works in as they reckon that she cannot job share it, so is having to drop from a 52 week contract to a 40 week contract just to work 3 days a week. Since her works nursery will only give 52 week child care contracts, she also loses out on the nursery where she would have received a 20% fee deduction as a staff member.
  11. I have checked with Dave who runs the Gumboots Holiday Scheme ( see above for email details). The dates of the club are 28th July to 22nd August costs ?28 per day. You can sign up for as many days as you wish ( or can afford) Open for primary age pupils. Trips out, games, activities, art etc . This club is well run by experienced staff.
  12. Support all the suggestions above - emotional abuse . I am surprised that he claims the child benefit as this traditionally goes to the woman. Do you know whether he listed you as the mother on the CB application forms. Is he using the money for his gambling? If you are not seeing any of the money you may wish to contact the CH office direct
  13. Sorry to hear - I came home from work a couple of years ago and found our cat Gerry dead in the front garden, we think he was knocked on the head by a car and crawled back to the garden. I was upset to think that someone had hurt him and not bothered to stop or make enquiries as to who owned him. He had a collar and tag
  14. My residents' association did a few gardening workshops some time back and we took a van upto Covent Garden Market and purchased a large number of plants. We paid by cash
  15. My neighbour had subsidence many years ago and the roots of the tree outside his house damaged not only the foundations of the house but the sewage system as well. This was about 20 years ago and cost ?5000 to put right and took over 6 months to complete with the insurance wrangling . The insurance company also made a claim against Southwark for failing to maintain the trees in the street i.e. regular pollarding/cutting back. Southwark at that time had to pay out so much money they began their tree maintenance programme. Imagine the cost today to pay out for your house repair
  16. Gumboots After School Club run a 4 week holiday scheme at the East Dulwich Community Centre in Darrell Road. Please contact [email protected] If your child attends the Goodrich After School run by Gumboots - please ask a staff member for details. Same applies if your child attends the Gumboots at the Community Centre. Children do not have to attend the After School Club to join the summer scheme which is open for 5 - 11 year olds. For more details put Gumboots Holiday in Search and you will see all the other posts for the past year
  17. I parked there to drop off someone last night and did not see any signs there - where are they?
  18. I must admit that over the past couple of weeks the traffic wardens appear to be very interested in this area and were hovering with their little machines
  19. Barry Road refuse collection seems to be going ok but for the past 2 weeks hubby has been clearing up food waste by our side gate. At first we thought someone was coming into the garden and dumping bags ( one dump was a clear plastic bag with bread in it) but has the days have gone on with think it now must be foxes as paper, bits of food and dirty nappies are appearing. If you live at the top end of Barry Road and have a small child - please put your rubbish in a wheelie bin as the foxes are obviously going through black /rubbish sacks which have been left out in a garden etc. Hubby states that if he finds an letter with an address in the next pile of rubbish left in the garden - he will dump the collected rubbish onto their doorstep.
  20. James, I know this is not your area but I heard from a friend yesterday that there is a little known small block of council flats by Bessemer Grange School, where most of the flats have been empty for 18 months. I think they are one or two bedrooms. In view of the thousands on the Southwark Housing List - perhaps some of your councillor colleagues could check whether this information is correct and if so what is Southwark Housing doing about if they are council owned.
  21. Hubby asked at the above Post Office yesterday if they were closing and was informed that as long as they have sufficient customers for the PO they will remain open. So it is a question of using your local sub post office or lose it.

    Solicitor

We used William Bailey in Lordship Lane when dealing with selling parents in law house, buying a house in Sussex as well as various legal issues around our house in ED
  23. 2 of my grandchildren had eczema from birth - usual creams and Ointments as already mentioned. Both were given goats milk to drink which improved the condition. Also grandson had soya milk and rice milk which also helped. They are 15 and 10 now and have been rash free since Junior school, although the 10 year old does have the odd flare up. Daughter used to ensure that they did not wear synthetic clothing.
  24. I had forgotten the Corporation of London flats on Sydenham Hill. I think there may be a change of policy at Dulwich Mead as I heard that the warden had refused to allow an external keysafe to be installed to allow carers access to the building a resident was bed bound and could not open outer door by the intercom. Clifton Court still exists in Peckham and I believe there is another Anchor SHU in Lambeth. Hexagon Housing and Riverside (previously called English Churches Care) also have SHU, as do Hyde Housing
  25. When my grandson was diagnosed with language delay- his parents were told to expect upto 2 years wait for therapy (in Harlow) hence the specialist nursery. He is now approaching 20 years old and speech is equivalent with his age. He was also found by the nursery to have mild learning difficulties and when started infant school was provided with additional help via a special needs assistant. Is the difficulty with your daughter due to incomprehensible speech - i.e can say words but is not pronouncing them correctly or not finishing off ends of words? Or is her language development very behind for her age?. There is an organisation which gives advice re children/young people who have speech delays but I cannot remember its name. I wonder whether it would be quicker for your child to see a psychologist who specialises in speech disorders to get an understanding of the problems preventing the 'normal' development of speech.
