  1. The area around the Gardens is usually very hard to park in. I attend the Garden's Surgery and my appointments are in the morning so I drive to work afterwards Usually takes about 10 mins to find a parking space that is not over someone's cross over or yellow line. Easier in the evenings as the commuters who park early to get the bus to Peckham Station have gone.
  2. usually when security lights are installed Southwark gives guidance ( or it may be specific permission) as to the intensity of the light, the angles of the beam and how long they can be on for. Most should be on a time switch.
  3. Most hospitals and Social Services provide either or both a Reablement Service or Intermediate Care which is free of charge for up to 6 weeks. Intermediate Care (ICT) is staffed by OTs and Physios with a specially trained team of Rehab Support Workers. The hospital OTs/Physios send in goals for each patient to achieve within the 6 week period. It could be exercises to strengthen muscles, working from walking with crutches to walking stick etc. RSWs will work with people in their own homes at least once a day (usually more) on exercises devised by therapists Reablement Teams have RSWs and usually an OT - they work mainly on building up confidences post operation, getting people back to being independent with their personal care and activities of daily living. Sometimes you get a mixture of Reablement and ICT RSWs.
  4. Both of my daughters have laminated floors in their lounges and dining rooms. Youngest daughter's has several deep scratches where heavy furniture has rested and coming apart in certain areas. Both complain that surface is easily marked and scuffed. They have friends who have gone for wooden floors and they do not seem to have the same problems.
  5. In my line of work I frequently have to go to various hospitals to see patients. If seeing someone in Lewisham Hospital I try to go after 3 pm when most of the OP appointments are finishing. Too expensive to park in the car park but the meters in Lewisham park opposite are not bad a price. St. Helier Hospital is murder, took me nearly an hour to find a parking space and cost me a bomb, Princess Royal at Farnborough - if you are going to be in and out within a couple of hours park in Sainsbury's and make sure you purchase a few items in there. I am off to Orpington Hospital tomorrow morning for the first time so interesting to see what the situation is there. I'm afraid all hospitals north of the river I go by Public Transport as not worth driving. St. Christopher's Hospice, if late afternoon usually can park in the road opposite for free, but hit and miss all other times as now they have made the general car park smaller - never get a space.
  6. 95% sure am going for wooden flooring - will be trying the Flooring Place in the Industrial Unit off Stanstead Road for a quote re engineered wood. We have original floorboards in dining room and breakfast room which are easy to keep clean with 3 cats around. Also I want to downsize when I retire in a couple of years (hubby wants to stay here) so thinking wooden flooring is more likely to appeal to buyers than carpet. The first thing you usually want to do is get rid of the carpet when you first move into somewhere new especially where animals are concerned. Need to decide soon as being redecorated from 19th Sept by son in law and his friend who are taking a week off work each to do the work.
  7. I have got a dropped kerb and the council put a double yellow line in front of it some years later which means that my daughter cannot park her car across my dropped kerb when visiting.
  8. The last funeral I went to was a mixture of dark clothing and some very bright ones -immediate family wearing dark colours including brown and green. Rest of the attendees wearing a mixture of colours. Nobody wore a hat. The children were in casual trousers and shirts, the girls in leggings or dresses. One funeral I went to we were asked to wear bright colours as the deceased hated people looking drab!
  9. The price for carpet was based on an Axminster type replacement so easily the most expensive - the one we are replacing was laid in January 1975 when we moved into the house and is now only just wearing thin. The quote was from EJ carpets in Forest Hill. We had stair and hallway carpeting from them and it came just over ?1200 with fitting and underlay. If we were going for carpet I imagine it would be around ?1200 - ?1800. What is Amtico? I was shown an alternate which is laid on plywood and was like a superior vinyl. Only thing was if you had any rewiring would have to take the whole lot up. has anyone used B & Q engineered wood and their floor layers?
  10. I am considering replacing my old lounge carpet - which is now wearing a bit thin having been laid in 1975. (It was an Axminster) My lounge is 16 x 20 feet - I was quoted ?2500 for wooden flooring. underlay and fitting. For a decent carpet and underlay and fitting the cost would be roughly the same. A work colleague told me about engineered or veneered wood flooring which is between laminate and wooden - anyone ever had this? We have cats, young children/teenagers and heavy furniture in the lounge so want something that can take the rough and tumble and not scratch. A click system so that we could take up easily for any under floor repairs. Do not want to go for sanding as cellar is underneath lounge and a bit drafty. I noticed some engineered flooring in B & Q which ranged from ?34 - ?54 per sq metre - they also offeredfloor layers.
  11. Yes bumps and raised ramps have been considered but as a major bus route TFL oppose them. There was a raised ramp/platform at Goodrich/Barry Rd junction some years ago to reduce speed, bus crews refused to come up Barry Road as it was too high, council had to lower it before buses resumed normal service
  12. Interesting that none of my granddaughter's names in the list (I do not think I have misread) Kasha, Tia and Morgan, however all the grandsons are there Nathan, Lewis, Owen and James. Plus one daughter (Victoria) but not the others Kathryn and Felicity
  13. I think you have been brilliant - so many others would not have taken pity on the poor dog and taken to vets. An old friend had an au pair for a while to help out with her 4 children and if the au pair was asked to do an hour more than her contracted hours, refused even when my friend (a teacher) was stuck at school waiting for a parent to collect a child.
  14. Being married to someone who has Bipolar and for at least 4 - 6 months of each year is in a depressed phase, my hubby admits he has thought at times about suicide as he feels that the pain he inflicts on his family is too much for us, and we would be happier without him. He also states that he would also be a coward and chicken out of suicide as he is afraid of pain and it going wrong. There are people who use attempted suicides as a plea for help. I have worked with others who enjoy the attention they receive after a suicide attempt. It is usually those who we least think about will attempt the act, succeed. I enjoyed all of Robin's performances being it comedy and straight. He was quite manic at times on TV interviews and one wonders whether he was bi polar.
  15. I cannot give current information but going back some 15 years ago a neighbour (Dulwich Library area) sent her daughters to this school. They left around 7 am to get bus to Victoria and then a tube to get them to school for 8.45. Got home anytime from 5.30 - 6.30 pm due to traffic. Both girls were glad at the end of week to have a lie in.
  16. I have friends who have children in Dulwich private schools from 4 onwards and they have never had private tuition. They had a choice of 2 schools ( were offered both) and chose one where there is emphasis on learning through activities within classroom or after school classes/groups.
  17. Water now back on
  18. I am surprised that no one has posted that we have had only a trickle of water since about 6 pm tonight as apparently a burst water main in Barry Road. Has anyone heard anything as to when water is back on?
  19. Most of the after school clubs finish around 5 30 or 6 pm. My daughter pays ?12 per session for her 10 year old after school care.
  20. When I did my Counselling course via Lewisham College, Morley College were also running a course. If you do a basic Bereavement Counselling Course - this will give you experience and some inkling as whether you want to take a higher qualification. I had done counselling as part of my social work training, but did the bereavement course as I wanted more in depth understanding. I was also on placement in a counselling and social work agency - so I could back up the theory with the practical. Bromley Colleeg (if it still exsists, also did a counselling course. City Lit may offer some as well.
  21. Parts of Goodrich Road are very poorly lit and if the mother and child were wearing dark clothing and had dark coloured bikes, other road users including pedestrians could easily miss them. Having a cyclist husband I am very conscious of other cyclists and give them a wide berth if I have to overtake them. The other night, reversing into my drive, I had to brake suddenly as a cyclist wearing dark clothing and no lights decided to a u turn in Barry Road and tried to pass me on the kerb side just as I was turning the car. Fortunately, I saw him out of the corner of my eye and was going so slowly I could stop immediently.
  22. When there was rebuilding at the back of us, the council stated they could only make a noise (Drilling/ excessive hammering) between 8 and 9 weekdays, for about 4 hours on a Saturday (I think it was 10 - 2) and nothing on Sunday. This was many years go, and when the neighbours complained to the council (Planning) that these times were not kept, the enforcement officers came up to inspect etc.
  23. I am glad we are getting a restaurant back, this end of LL is getting dead with 5 shops closed down in last year.
  24. Are they staff or are they volunteers?
  25. NHS hospital will generally provide free treatment for acute or emergency situations. But charge a daily rate for aftercare or rehabilitation. However this may vary from region to region
