Spot on.
-
I don't see those with serious reservations moving on at all. Momentum against some of these measures as well as dubious council behaviour seems to be building.
-
And yet here you are again, Earl, fixated on trying to persuade us that non-mandated junction re-configurations, with phase 3 only just released, costing millions of pounds, are a great idea.
-
Surely not. I mean words fail and there was me thinking my spoof conspiracy theory about LCC was far fetched.

There was 72 and also The Drum. Completely forgot about Black Cherry! The pubs all changed too. The Foresters? -

There used to be loads of bric a brac and antique shops in ED. There was a guy called Rene who had one along from the station back in the early 80's. Quite a few on NX and then there was Austins towards Peckham. Does anyone remember Dave the greengrocer and his brother? The Junction Emporium was much more recent. I remember Target but never went in. -
So why do you and a few others spend so much time on here trying to counter all and any anti local LTN and 'Vanity Square' sentiment? Why are you so seemingly pathologically obsessed with trying to close down what you say is a non issue, that you say is four years old and nobody cares about? You must admit it doesn't make sense?
-
I just thought I'd provide a counter conspiracy theory to the equally ludicrous stuff pedalled on here about closet Tories and the secretive and shadowy organisation that some think is directing them. Hahaha😂 Pots and Kettles Earl. Try all you like, go for every angle you can, as I said, there are enough locals now questioning these measures, this is not going away. If, as you keep protesting, this is a done deal with only a few voices against why are you so obsessed with trying your absolute best to shut it down. Why do you care? As you already know, many of us on here already cycle. Do try to get your facts straight. Another fact check ( goodness you are getting a bit Trumpian in your attempts to spin and derail) the suggestion is to have a referendum on this only, not on everything. That's because the Council were not mandated to waste millions on 'Vanity Square'.
-
But if such a tiny minority against, as you persist in telling us, why do you keep popping up to repeat this? Why bother? It seems a number of you are putting an awful lot of energy into trying to shut this tiny vocal minority down. It doesn't really add up, neither does the frequently parroted conspiracy theory that objectors are all closet Tories being directed by a shadowy organisation that has some as yet undefined political agenda. Another theory is that at least some pro LTN posters on here who are not local are LCC operatives with a political agenda of their own?

Blue Mountain was the first coffee shop on NX road and possibly ED. The Yellow door restaurant was in a house just along from what is now the Charter School. It was quite well thought of at the time. It had a yellow front door. -

I think we are incredibly privileged to live in ED. I remember it when Blue Mountain and Grace and Favour opened- the latter the same day Blair and New Labour won for the first time. The Yellow Door was I think the only posh restaurant around . Prior to all that ED was a bit more ordinary but nice enough. The only time I remember anything close to rioting in ED was during the Brixton riots and the old Sainsbury's (now M&S) had a window smashed in. -

Oh well, that's a new one. Proof you are not one of the LCC posting cadre, DKH? But, edited out of respect to the OP. Any news on your efforts to object to LTNs imposed in Lambeth? -

"I am bored" seems to be the latest response from the pro LTN playlist, along with the laughing/ ridicule emoji and "this news is four years old, move on". Perhaps a list of responses is kept at LCC HQ, along with advisories on which LTN and CPZ consultations to input around the boroughs. -
Now Earl, calm down. It is hard for you to understand that many of us will not willingly move on from what has been a pretty disgraceful and underhand performance by Southwark Labour. Note, as Rockets said, phase 3 of 'Vanity Square' only in place now. Spin away, but this is not going away.

Still here Earl? I thought you were bored of threads with this subject matter? I am sure the OP will let us know, Perhaps pushing through non-mandated LTN and traffic measure changes is not jtst s Southwark Council thing. -

Earl, no need to hang around if you are bored. A number of us are glad objections to local LTNs have and continue to be voiced. I am afraid that is not going to change, much as you may like it to. I am also interested to find out from the OP if, unlike Southwark, LTNs in Lambeth are mandated. -
Interesting reading. Agree with separating walking and cycling out. In my view, e- bikes cannot really be considered as active travel from a health perspective, especially if we discover kids are using Lime bikes to cover short distances they might have walked in the past.

Southwark Labour know that, as Alice says, lifelong Labour voters or even those on the fence would not stomach voting in a Tory council on a single issue. As many here also know, people rarely vote on single issues in council elections. Nonetheless, Labour knew very well that there is plenty of local opposition to LTNs, so they kept their spending plans very quiet in that regard. There is still no good answer as to how this 'green' council is happy to rent and ruin our park spaces while it gifts millions to an already wealthy area to have a piece of main thoroughfare turned into a 'square'. A space in which to "socialise" they say, when there are massive parks, numerous restaurants and a gallery on the doorstep. As Spartacus suggests, let's have a referendum on what has become a sticking point for many.

Absolutely no detail and 'new schemes' is typical fudging political speak. What is fair about spending literally millions on scheme to reconfigure a tiny area of road in the wealthiest part of the borough, during a cost of living crisis? Meantime, streets in less wealthy areas are left to rot. To this I would add that our allegedly greener council wants to sublet and monetise our precious local parks to the max... -

Please show where in the last Southwark Labour manifesto intentions and expenditure on local LTNs were highlighted? Labour did not run on it and you know that. That is an example of how democracy is undermined. Just to add, as I do not want to go off thread, I do not know if Lambeth Labour highlighted proposed LTNs and related changes in their manifesto? Perhaps the OP can tell us? -
Those pictured protesting here are most likely local residents. The cyclists we see supporting the millions of pounds Dulwich Square creation are as likely to be London Cycling Campaign supporters, not locals at all.
-
Because most people opposed to local LTNs are not necessarily Tory supporters, despite efforts to portray them that way. Nor, do most tend to vote on a single issue. At the last local election few had the stomach to vote for a local Tory candidate when they knew any victory would have been spun as support for the national government. Plus, Southwark Labour were pretty much silent on LTNs etc, indicating they knew they were not popular and counted on voters having other equal or greater concerns. Locals are not indifferent, they have been stitched up by the current council and its fanatical supporters who are pressing on with their agenda, come what may. I cannot believe, in a cost of living crisis, that posters here think spending millions on reconfiguring a small area of road space in Dulwich Village is okay.
-
Don't think they are indifferent. Many of us that have found ourselves questioning the wisdom of local LTNs and CPZ would not vote at the council elections on those issues alone- but it does not make us "indifferent" just powerless it seems to stop the council's single- minded pursuit of its agenda, eagerly supported by some equally myopic and fanatical stakeholder/ supporter organisations.
-
Couldn't agree more Rockets. The obsession with Richard Aldwinckle borders on weird and attempts to demonise him or those who in any way question the wisdom of local LTNs is telling.

You don't say. If you read my post you will see I said I don't know if Lambeth are mandated to make the changes as per OP. I commented on Southwark in passing and then back to issue of consultations. Didn't think you were one to get into barrel scraping point scoring DKH.
