  1. I would also recommend John. He skimmed my horrible artex ceilings and did a fabulous job. He was efficient, on time and quoted a reasonable price for the work. I contacted him on the strength of these previous recommendations on the forum.
  2. My little boy also had a bit of a problem with poos and the potty. I took the bribery route and combined it with a reward chart...basically I gave him a star (or a poo point) for every poo on the potty/toilet. And said if he got 5, he could go into the toy shop and choose something. It seemed to be the incentive he needed...Luckily he chose a toy tractor not a Playmobil castle (or something equally expensive!) After that, he had no issue at all. Good luck!
  3. Thanks for those suggestions. sounds like a trip to the City via Rotherhihe will make a good day out.
  4. It's Open House this weekend. Does anyone have any recommendations they'd like to share? http://www.londonopenhouse.org/ "Open House London celebrates all that is best about the capital?s buildings, places and neighbourhoods. Every September, it gives a unique opportunity to get out and under the skin of London?s amazing architecture, with over 700 buildings of all kinds opening their doors to everyone ? all for free. This year it takes place over the weekend of 17 and 18 September."
  5. Hi, Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, should give us plenty to do for the week. P
  6. We're on holiday in Lyme Regis for a week in October with a group of friends. There will be 6 toddlers (gulp!) Anyone been there recently and have any recommendations for things to do in the area? Thanks
  7. Hi snowboarder, I think it's pretty normal..my little one refused LOTS of things at this age. I noticed that his eating was considerably better when he ate with other toddlers (ideally unfussy ones). He would see the others chowing down on their dinner and want to get stuck in too. Luckily we share a nanny with a very good eater, and this seems to have rubbed off on our lad. Also - I think reverse psychology works. Our little one has tried all sorts of weird and wonderful things because he's been told he wouldn't like it. Sometimes he doesn't like it. (Wasn't keen on Stilton!) Other times, he's surprised us. (he likes radishes). It will get better!
  8. I agree the East London Line would be good for Canary Wharf, but I'm going to the City. Near Moorgate. Louisa - you must have been reading my mind, I have been considering a move out of ED. Perhaps even to the wilds of Brockley. Unfortunately, I have a flat to sell before I do this and so far, not so good on that front. To Sue, Ladygooner and Nick B, I'm glad you think this has been bad luck. I used to commute to the Strand. (Sometimes on the 176 and sometimes to Charing Cross (changing at London Bridge). I don't ever remember it being this bad.
  9. I've just started a new job based in the City. My door to door commute should be 45 minutes and when it's working well, it is. I have to get back at a certain time as I have childcare commitments. So far, the journey in has been fine. However, out of 5 journeys home, 2 have been severely disrupted. One by a trespasser on the line (held things up for nearly an hour) and today, there was a points failure. I was about 40 minutes late home. Is this usual? I drove to my last job and yes, traffic could be a pain but at least I could take another route if there were problems. I'm despairing of the train service at the moment... is this just a blip?
