  2. I also spotted these today in Streatham. Religious reason possibly???
  3. Call Henry of ACES services on 07718 246 958. His work is guaranteed and is qualified in plumbing, gas and electrical so can deal with everything. Easy to talk to and jolly character!
  4. This theft of metal is going mad at the moment. This is happened to us on several occassions. We live off Lordship Lane and have left metal articles in our front shed, to come home and find the shed has been raided!! Now we cannot leave any of these things out the front, even though they are out of sight to passers by. This shows the offenders actually trespassed onto our property, raided our secluded shed and scavaged for anything to buy a bacon butty!! Be warned people. This is what is happening whilst you are at work!
  5. Hello mmag, If the stop cock is not accessable it is breaching the Water Regulations 1991. During a leak your only other option (if it is a tap fed from the mains supply and not an internal tank), is to access the water shut-off on the street boundry!! Basically, if it is mains water rather than tank fed, the seriousness of it is greater. If a tank, there will be other methods in place to close the supply before it leaves the tank. If mains and there are no other shut-off options in place (ie service valves), Thames Water take this more seriously due to the water wastage factor. Try and investigate the following site and see if you can contact them for advice http://www.wras.co.uk/regulations_default.asp Good luck. If you need us to fix it, PM me!
  6. Thank you all for your wonderful comments. The Garden Surgey definatley seems to have made a great impression with all. I visited their website and the map indicating their catchment area and I am in the same situation as Ednewmy for being the wrong side of Lordship lane!! I will investigate following the comment from Callie - hopefully they will take me. Are there any comments members wish to add about any other surgeries in the area, just incase? Thank you all for your comments. They are extremely useful.
  7. Hello all, I need to register with a GP surgery in the SE22 area. I live just off Lordship lane. The distance is not the main priority here for me. It is the ability to receive an appointment, friendliness of staff and services. I see the comments left on NHS Choices for surgeries in the SE22 area but am scepticle. I know whilst some comments may be from genuine patients some may be from the staff or GP's who run the surgieries, trying to put false comments on just how good they are so their rating increases. Please can I ask for your comments on what you think of your GP surgery and how they have treated you. Have you had long delays with appointments? I see the thread on there about Dulwich Medical Centre and the delays with appointments but as I am not joined to any surgery yet, would like a view of all those in the are to help make my assessment. Thank you for you help.
  8. Ha ha! You make me laugh.
  9. People who do not realise what their voice is for. At the time you are upset by something or someone, remeber you can voice this in a calm way!
  10. Beware. Such agressive behaviour could be a sign of rabies. Yep, cats can get it too!
  11. Bringing in a speed limit is now taking it to far. They have introduced extra crossings, extra speed humps and limited the amount of parking on the high street. All ofthis has resulted in a high level of traffic and pollution for our high street. The council need to address the real problem, that is maniac drivers cutting through the residential roads - the roads which have our neighbourhood children playing on them. The high street, should remain the high street!
  12. Try this fellow. Has been in the building trade for about 25 years now and done a loft conversion for my friend last year. Finish is immaculate, I was so impressed. Edward Ollivierre Mobile: 07836 20 26 20
  13. NessD Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > We took ours down after a month ourselves and > dropped it off outside the estate agents door one > evening. Well done NessD! The house next to ours has had their 'Let By...' sign up for about 6 months now and I find it really irritating! Might follow you lead!
  14. I think this is a wonderful idea. Not simply for the benefit in getting a good deal, but more for the friendships it may form of those living in Dulwich. Although ED is a nice area to live in, I find it lacking in free, friendly communication.
  15. Interesting post 'Civilservant'. Wonder what Department you work for??? lol!
  16. The duster guy was the fellow who visited my yesterday from the 'Organisation for Homeless and Jobless People' (see related post). I noticed suspicious behaviour a few months back so got my phone out and started taking photos. Nothing happened from it on my street, but with today?s technology, I urge everyone else to do the same. Work together for the greater good. This is getting worryingly common in ED. A few weeks ago, police visited our house as a neighbour had been broken into. A few weeks before this, a neighbours van had been stolen along with all the tools inside it!! Very worrying.
  17. Unfortunately, we now live in a society where people are too scared to talk to one another, let alone confront them ? apart from me that is! I am known for making my feelings very clear to those on the street, when dropping rubbish or gum etc. I urge everyone reading this article to do the same. Until we break down this fear of speaking out, we will all have to suffer.
  18. I purchased from these people last night. Although the items were overpriced I thought I would choose something that may be of use to me, so I would be assured I was getting something I would use and help a local cause at the same time. Later that night, I was thinking about the name. 'Organisation'. Not a charity, or society, but and 'organisation' I should have realised earlier. With regard to the comments above, if it is something you need then yes, it is not so bad. However, to find these people are being deceitful with a fake PO Box number, and claiming to be working for such an important cause, this is what I find most upsetting. It also has a great effect on future, genuine charity groups collecting in the area. Mentioning here, to bring to all members attention that this bogus organisation is back in your area. If you want it, visit the local pound shop and give the extra to the Shelter group.
  19. I will not give to beggers. These people are not homeless. They are not starving. They have just seen the area as an opportunity. Giving money encourages other opportunists to the area, which is not good. I feel uneasy walking down the road with people begging. You want to make a difference? Visit the shelter or homeless uk websites and see what support and volunteering work you can take part in. A pound her will result in a bottle of strong bow or a fag! Not a meal. Go to the centre of london at night. See what a real homeless person looks like. You will soon see the difference. One the way home yesterday, I saw a male begger standing next to the cash point beside Co-op. Imagine that is you, alone, taking money out. How intimidated would you feel? If they were not being given money they would not be here - simple as. East Dulwich is going down. Will you help keep it afloat or support its desent?
  20. M&S to enter Lordship lane. Humm??? So, they develop, remove what little parking there is now available to Lordship lane in the way for visitors, force shoppers on to the high street and upset the locals just so the council can sway the locals minds when debating overspill parking on the side roads. this area is only aliuve o n a saturday morning which I do not believe justifies the expense in carring out the planned works. Furthermore, there are still many families and singletons who rely on Iceland budget shopping to live within there means. We saw the same thing in Camden where local people were priced out of there own neighbourhood by the Bunty influx from the shires none of which hang around during the festive season to mix with the local community.all the side roads are empty xmas and easter and bank holidays!!!! why? beacuse they have all absconded to their home towns to find a Marks and Spencer for a Quality ready meal. "Heaven forbid we Dulwich-ites, remaining at home on the Up an coming lane, add to global warming by turning our Ranges or AGA's on!"
  21. SO sorry to hear of your experience and those of others on this topic. I have been in similar situations and it is a shock to get over. The number 12 has a hit crime rate due to the fact others can travel for free and therefore there is no record of who is getting on or off the bus. This is proven when the tickets inspectors come out and a mass escape operation happens as the bus approaches the stop and the criminals (which is what the fare dodgers are) nitcie a penalty is in sight. CCTV I have no faith in for these things. The thing to remember is these people are opportunists. I find it very hard to sit back and watch this crime and examples of intimidation take place against me and those around me and when I have confronted these people they are surprised and 90% of the time give it up as they are expecting an easy snatch. The other 10% I have been prepared to fight my corner and will win! My point - next time it happens to any of you pray for someone with my morals to be on that bus/street with you and you will get your posessions back! Sit back and crime multiplies as the word spreads just how easy it can be.
  22. Has he returned home yet? I have noticed a very friendly ginger male over the recent weeks. Seems about 2 years old by the size - has a collar with a metal circular tag. Good weight. Was in no way shy and very comfortable around me although he has never come that close to me before. Was wondering aroung my garden (around E.D police station area). Is this him? Has he come home yet?
