  1. Gushing praise from me for Dave (from Down the Drain). To add to all the others on various threads on the forum. We had a blocked kitchen sink that wasn't responding to anything. Even One Shot (terrifying stuff) - which melted the plug hole. Disaster. I was dreading the news that we needed to have the whole kitchen ripped out and pipes replaced. Instead - Dave fixed it in 20 minutes. I honestly think he prides himself on doing it as quickly as he is able to - and says that this is the way to keep your customers. He also has every piece of high tech equipment you can imagine - which helps! Really, really nice guy. No mess, very honest and friendly and charges are fair. I had to stop myself from hugging him as he left!
  2. Hello, Does anyone have a knackered old mini micro scooter they want to get rid of (happy to pay something)? Needed for parts. In particular - the fat screw at the bottom of the scooter than attaches the wheel bit to the rest of the scooter (if that makes sense). Obv, any old colour will do - and don't mind the condition, as long as it can be used for spares. Thanks J
  3. I'm also going to give a definiate thumbs up to Niko - he has done some work for me this week - and it was excellent. He took the trouble to explain everything carefully - not because he is 'patronising' but because he is very meticulous and doesn't cut corners. He has done 2 jobs - which took much longer than he had anticipated. He probably could have done them more quickly, at teh expense of doing the jobs properly. I paid for both jobs after he finished and made sure I was happy with the work - even though he had already spent ?100 on the materials a week beforehand. I have had lots of building work done over the last year and there are very few workmen I would praise like this. I'm definitely re-using him (in fact, I have one last job which he is doing for me in the next few weeks). If anyone doubts this post, feel free to pm me. Oh, and he had a very good reason for being out of touch recently - and it wasn't work related. ONe final point, all workmen have to have a minimum call out charge - even if the job turns out to be a small one.

  5. Hello, I hope you don't mind me pm-ing you like this. I'm lookign for a plasterer but am a bit wary of recommendations on EDF now - given this poor person's experience. (I have had a similar back experience with a builder. Luckily, he was not physically threatening - but possibly because I was too scared to report him). In the aftermath of my rogue builder experience, I need to do lots of remedial work, including some plastering. A bunch of people seem to have recommended Aaron, including yourself. Is he someone I could trust to do a good job, do you think? Thanks Jessica
  6. I can't praise Mark Taylor enough. My loft conversion has been one hassle after another and Mark has gone very much out of his way to help me out. He did a great initial job finding a solution that avoided a party wall (which, given our neighbours, would have set me back thousands extra). He charged a very reasonable rate and was thoroughly helpful and reliable. My builder has recently done a runner on us - and Mark very kindly volunteered to come over to make sure that all the structural stuff was OK. (I did not ask, he offered!) 7. Any recommendations? Please PM me if you can help. Thanks!
  8. Hello, I have a tiered garden and a toddler. There is a metal staircase that leads to the garden at teh top. So I'm looking for someone who can make a couple of gates (for the top and bottom of teh metal staircase) and a bit of mesh at the top to stop my toddler for chucking herself down a steep slope/ metal staircase. I'd be grateful for some recommendations and a rough idea of costs. Please PM me if you can help. Thanks Jessica
  9. I would defintely second recommending Mark Taylor (Torcal). He was absolutely brilliant. He helped with a loft conversion and his design has avoided the need for me to get a party wall agreement, which if any of you have experience of can add an extortionate amount of expense. He also charged a very reasonable price. I had a few other problems with consent issues and couldn't have been more helpful (and nice!). If anybody wants more info - please PM me
  10. A quick post to recommend Tony (07541132087). He's very reasonably priced, reliable, turned up bang on time and nothing too much trouble. Not to mention, he's a really nice man. I've used him twice so far - once to move lots of furniture (it took ages longer than expected, and he really put himself out for us) and also once to move a sofa (again, spent ages helping us squeeze it into our tiny new home). Would not hesitate to recommend him.
