Go and look at kitchens on right move in houses over say 1.5. Most of them will have a side return extensions many will have used architects nevertheless they all look more or less the same.
That makes total sense, doesn’t explain why that treacherous corner on East Dulwich grove and lordship lane remains or why the harvester crossing has taken maybe 30 years or more to sort.
It was never busy I think the footfall promise failed, I do remember a cheese street market business moved there but then moved back to the street markets. The overhead was higher and the profit was lower.
