  1. Not necessarily so. The Southwark policy also states that it can take into account the proximity of other similar establishments. As this is next door but one to an existing bookmaker this may be used to refuse.
  2. That one has been there for years, which means that someone else will want to put one close to it fairly soon.
  3. Speak to him in terms that he will understand. Kiss your teeth and tell him to shut the f@/k up or you will carve him up. Also let him know that your medication takes a while to kick in and that your probation officer, social worker and psychiatrist have told you to avoid conflict. If he carries on there will be conflict and you will have to return to the big house to finish off your sentence, which you will gladly do the next time he p?@?%s you off. I have found this works. I am not a morning person.
  4. I have seen the dangers of this industry, a fool and his money are easily parted irrespective of their social standing, and they all need the same protection. You can have too much of a good thing. In 2 years time posts on this forum could be "my teenager is addicted to electronic roulette machines." Or "my partner has gambled away the equity in the house during the housing cash of 2k8" and we can say "oh what a shame, maybe we should have done something about the 5th betting office application."
  5. My sister in law is currently looking to sell her house and is considering putting it on the net to cut out the agents fees. Has anyone done this? If so, how was it and who did you use.
  6. Accept it. you don't have to quote it unless you want to. In twenty years time you won't look back and say "If only I had accepted that...."
  7. Will you give any concessions to lure me in? Could do with a free go on the hypnotic roulette machine then you could really hook me.
  8. What odds will you give me telboy? You can see the effects of the new liquor law now. Binge drinking, rise in under age drinking, rise in alcohol related health problems. You can measure these through crime figures and a&e figures. If I was a betting man I would wager that in two years time there will be a rise in betting related problems ie addiction, debt etc only these effects are harder to see and quantify.
  9. I would rather see a LL with restaurants than bookies. As soon as the betting operators see that a council or an area are having licences granted it brings them in like flies to you know what.
  10. I can understand the need/demand for another betting shop if the existing ones were so crowded you couldn't get anymore people in. There are enough opportunities to gamble down LL if you include the Lottery, Rivoli amusement arcade, Ladbrokes. The article in the Guardian raises the point of exposure. The William Hill is already massive, the Woolwich is of comparable size. To pay the rent they will be under cutting each other promoting the feeling of no risk gambling with inducements and special offers. The existing gambling venues always look empty bar one man and his dog, has any one seen anyone in the Rivoli?
  11. The people at Green Lanes got a petition of over 200 names and successfully defended themselves against three applications. I am sure if the councillors saw the local opposition they may start worrying about their seatsif they allow this to be granted. other than that everyone can write to the council licensing department like you do for planning. I am sure Wiliam Hill and Ladbrokes will be doing something about it. I will speak to them tomorrow.
  12. http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2008/jan/12/consumeraffairs just saw this.
  13. Just noticed an application for another betting shop at the old Woolwich. It is only 1 door up from the William Hill.
