He was in unmanageable pain (after an accident) which no-one seemed to be able to diagnose the source of - let alone treat. He'd had enough. It wasn't a cry for help.

I still have the numbers of a couple of dead friends in my phone (one suicide, one 7/7 victim). I was going to delete them but when it came-up saying 'Delete Y/N' it seemed inconsiderate to press Y. Which is stupid, seeing as they're.. you know.. deleted.

Fortunately as my name is nothing remotely like Bob and doesn't have two asterisks in it, I should be ok.

If you scurry past each morning, eyes down and uncomfortable, they won't stop. If you're in a public place, make them feel uncomfortable by stopping and calling them on it. Loudly.

If it's not genuine, then Kyle is certainly going to extreme lengths to appear so - having asked much the same questions on Gumtree as well (after someone suggested doing so on here)

Excellent point, Mockney. Fear of the new / unknown - sometimes, of course, with good reason. I remember when Ketamine first appeared and was initially shunned as a nasty, dirty little drug. Now it's just another staple in the clubbers arsenal (not mine, though) Crack is now starting to be rebranded and sold as a club drug. "Clubbing Rocks", some are calling it. I wonder if those that try it will lose their jobs, their friends and their lives after trying it a few times, or if it will simply be absorbed as just another kind of hit on offer sometime between Friday night and Monday morning? Chris Morris said it best in "Brass Eye" "Luckily, the amount of heroin I use is harmless, I inject about once a month on a purely recreational basis. Fine. But what about other people less stable, less educated, less middle-class than me? Builders or blacks for example. If you're one of those, my advice is leave well alone. Good luck."

The X-Factor is an entertainment show under the guise of the tried and tested 'search for a star' format. It isn't really about who can sing any better than anyone else or who's going to sell records. There's only one star of the show.. and that's Mr Cowell.

The only way to truly understand what drugs do to you is to.. you know.. do them. I have never 'done' an opiate or crack cocaine so I'm afraid I can't tell you anything about them. Due to the fear factor which these drugs still hold, most people who do them are in a certain 'place' already before they do. As Snorky said, "The problem with Skag isnt the skag". The balance to drugs is your everyday life. I don't get up in the morning, pop a pill and head-out to a meeting with a couple of wraps in my pocket - regardless of how much I like it. From ever since I can remember, the drug which has always brought the greatest threat of harm is alcohol. It is still the case.

It's not an exact comparison and you can delve into the specifics to dispute it if you wish, but it isn't a useless one. Criminalising something which a sizable percentage of the population wants to do is never going to be an answer to anything.

In both instances, I think the idea that state approval (or not) is a key factor as to whether people want to take drugs or 'be a homosexual' misses the point entirely.
