  1. I often find that on opening packs of ready cooked meat from sainsburys that there is an instant acrid and unpleasant smell usually associated with rotten eggs. Fortunately I am aware that this odour is actually the protective atmosphere that the meat is packed in, as stated on the packet, and the 'rotten egg' smell is in fact the preservative sulphur which has been keeping the product safe and fresh. This smell is quick to disappear and seems to have no effect on the taste of the meat. I have never been ill or suffered from an upset stomach from eating this meat wether in date or even up to a week out of date!

Here's the perfect song for which to eat your steak;Eat Steak!

  2. Hi Bishberro, I too suffer from eczema, tho not as severely as your poor hubby. From your post You say you use a washing powder, I found that the powder was a large cause of my problem and have had significant relief when I switched to a bleach free gel and liquid. I also only wear cotton as woolen fibers exacerbate my eczema. Also check bedding and bed sheets too, a feather duvet or pillow can leave me in agony for weeks! Good luck and I hope his condition improves soon.
  3. This weeks aural delights have been Chain and the Gang's 'Down with liberty.....Up with chains', Iain Sevonious returns to K records with Calvin Johnson at the controls, and Titan's 'Pillzmarmalade', a 45 minute improv jam spacerock on eggy vinyl.

And Dr P, Hey venus was brilliant! Choc full of tunes and good fun.

This week I also had a dream where I listened to Go Kart Mozart's 'Storming up the album charts'. Fantastic.

"and 'Big 'ol bug is the new baby now' by the Flaming Lips, on the 'Colours are brighter" Is this a compilation ? the track was originally on Zaireeka.

Yes, it's a comp. I've only listened to Zaireeka once, with the four cd players lined up and so on, tho' i believe you can get the songs as b sides from the Soft Bulletin singles.

Love the Condor Fncks album Fnckbook too, it's yo la tengo playing covers, lound and noisy, fast and punky, recorded live in a single burst.

  5. No probs, I like to follow 'The breeze/my baby cries' (the Bill/Kath song) with 'Our dog is getting older now' by Jonathan Richman' and 'Big 'ol bug is the new baby now' by the Flaming Lips on the 'Colours are brighter' lp to create a lovely doggie themed trilogy. Talking of Jonathan Richman, his newie 'a que venimos sino a caer' is quite brilliant, also enjoying the Chatham Singers 'Ju Ju Claudias' as well as the blindingly brilliant Super Furry Animal's 'Dark days/Light years'.
  6. Mockney, if you loved the new Bill Callahan album (and who wouldn't), download his contribution on the Kath Bloom tribute album too, very lovely. The new Rapheal Saadiq record is good as well, his performance on Jools last week was a breath of fresh air, tho' the Jay Z rap is rather clumsy. Still waiting for the new Spectrum Ep to arrive from 'merica.
  7. No, wouldn't be doing anyone any favours but the site has been failing for many years as a pub, a deli was my first thought as an alternative due to the large space provided and chance to keep all the original fittings. I would hate to see it turned into residential property as the place would be gutted.
  8. Watching it again now with the kids as I type. Would love to watch it in HD, but even without that it is absolutely stunning, hope it comes out on blue ray (so I can convince the mrs to tech up). Only gripe is the dull dull dull voice over. And the bears were ace, love how stupid they are (climb to the top of a mountain just to eat some tasty grubs! nutters!):))
  9. Charlie Brooker's Newswipe tonight, BBC4, 10.30, for an interesting, funny and thought provoking half hour.

Bawdy nan. I too have loved Stewart, but this series seems more like I've met up with him through Friends reunited after years apart, had one bad shag, gone back for another just to find that he was a bad shag first time. Still, he's a thousand million miles better than Horne and Corden.
