Primary school league tables 2012 - now out
LondonMix replied to Monkey's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Honor Oak, Brokley and Forrest Hill area schools are all doing amazing- Fairlawn, Elliot Bank, John Stainer, the Stillness, Breecroft Garden, etc. I imagine young families will take notice! -
Indeed. We've gone through the class war part of the discussion several pages ago... *Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I hope everyone has familiarised themselves with > the first 38 pages before posting. > > We wouldn't want to go over old ground on this > one, would we?

Primary school league tables 2012 - now out
LondonMix replied to Monkey's topic in The Family Room Discussion
That's what the value add is about. It basically determines if children (given their starting ability) are making progress in line with national averages. Schools with a value add score above 100 (for primaries) are progressing pupils faster than average given their starting point . The value add score is really the best measure of how a school is performing. Everything else can largely be down to how capable students are who make it into the school any given year. An yes, having one or two pupils who are low attainers through no fault of the school would very much skew the expected level in English and Maths %. Good luck! LM -
New East Dulwich Primary School 161/80 + 102
LondonMix replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Renata, what do estimate the cost would be and by what means can you secure the funding and how secure is it? Thanks, LM -
Thanks for reiterating this. I wonder if its worthwhile though as no one seems to read it...

Primary school league tables 2012 - now out

Strong improvement across many local schools! Bessemer Grange, Dog Kennel Hill, Goodrich, Heber, Rye Oak, and St John's all improved results. More importantly, all schools (except Heber and St Johns) have value add scores that suggest they are out performing national standards given the ability of their intake so its not all down to gentrification. -

Renata are there any conditions that need to be met for the expansion of the existing academies you mentioned-? Is the funding in place and when do you think this might be possible? Is your ideal solution a combination of expansion and bulges (so not to overbuild in case demand drops)? Again, thanks very much. -
What does Lordship Lane need?
LondonMix replied to whiskeymistery's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Small chain I think. I don't mind. I like shops that sell things I want no matter how many of them there are if the service is good etc. Most of the stuff people are asking for already exists in ED but off Lordship Lane. Explore some more! Have you tried Thai Corner Cafe? It looks like someone's front room but the food is great! AD Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Japanese and a decent Thai -
That's not too bad. Inconvenient for some I'm sure but I imagine Iceland overall are explanding even if this shop is closing so hopefully they can all find a new shop that isn't too much of a hassle for them to reach (or get jobs in M&S if it opens). i*Rate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi Sue and LondonMix, > > Yes, I was being sarcastic and yes, the staff have > been offered jobs elsewhere at other branches > which is a reasonable deal for them in the > circumstances. > > I do feel sorry for them knowing what it was like > for me, some years ago, when I got made redundant > after 16 years in a job.I had a large mortgage (on > a house in ED) and a wife and three children to > support at the time, but I bounced back, luckily.

Thanks, I'll give it a go. It appears the Transport Group has recommended that they provide 3 years Street Car membership for each new flat created as a parking mitigation strategy. Has anyone seen if this has been adopted in the proposal? What are people's views on the times used for the parking assessment (4:30am and 7:30pm on a Tuesday and Thursday) for the residential units? At these times there was spare parking capacity within 200m of the shop location (which is how they justify that there is parking capacity for the new residential units) but is this when parking pressures would normally be most acute? I don't drive so I don't know. I actually think no one really uses the Iceland parking lot anyhow as its so hidden but it would be good to hear other's thoughts. Also, in the original objection made, was it assumed that the delivery vehicles would by 10.7m lorries? The Autotrack analysis suggests there won't be access issues. Does anyone have a view on this? I remember there were concerns about reversing and I can't tell if this has been adequately addressed in the Autotrack analysis. It doesn't appear to be the case but I'm no expert. To my eye, the residential footpath combined with access bridge looks like a good response to the residential safety access concerns. Edited for copious typos! first mate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > London Mix, I am sure you can make intelligent > comments. Yes, I suppose the sound of one?s voice is very identifying, even without a name being released etc. Somehow, I feel that I could recognize all my relatives if I saw them on TV with just their faces blurred. I can't explain, how or why but for my husband I am 100% positive that would be the case.

I have no issue with M&S coming to Lordship Lane (said that many times). This is one chain replacing another chain which happens all the time despite anyone's personal preference. My only concern is that the redevelopment of the shop is appropriate from an access rights perspective etc. A poor redevelopment isn't good for anyone.

Were they able to release either of the nurses' names? What would be the equivalent of a fuzzed out face on the radio? red devil Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sue Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Jeremy Wrote: > > > -------------------------------------------------- > > > ----- > > > Maybe the answer is that with any sort of > hoax > > > call or hidden camera show, you will need to > > get > > > the consent of the "victim" before > broadcasting > > > it. > > > > xxxxxxx > > > > Very good point. > > I thought this did happen with hidden camera show > pranks, seem to remember on Trigger Happy that > some faces got fuzzed out, whereas others didn't, > so presumed that the fuzzed out ones either hadn't > been told they had been filmed, or they didn't > agree to their faces being shown???...

I see, I was just curious. I think the planning dept is totally different to the cllrs and I don't think they get any specific heads up but I could be wrong on that. Robin as one of your passions is planning, it would be helpful if you chimed in. Also, I have beena able to access the docs okay-- printed them out but won't be able to read in detail until later and frankly don't know enough to comment intelligently anyhow!

Thanks Renata for a very informative post. -
Yes, I agree. I saw someone do a brilliant mezzanine above their master bedroom. The loft was too shallow to convert but somehow they managed (droping the ceiling perhaps) to create a standing room mezzanine floor that looked brilliant and they still had quite a bit of loft space for storage. The stairs ran along the wall in the master which might be what allowed them to make it work when a loft conversion wouldn't. I was just curious how much such a thing would cost out of curiosity. It was very impressive and a good use of space as they had a dressing room and ensuite up there.

Other large chains include Gourmet Burger, the Co-Op, Londis and Iceland. Smaller chains (meaning more than one shop in London) include Le Chardon, Hope and Greenwood, Paine and Hunters, Jo Partridge, Jo Jo Mamans, BC Bikes, Willis B... Just saying, we have plenty of the "dreaded chains" already. I agree with you that I like the scale and character of ED (including the existing chain stores). -
