  1. Just wanted to recommend Avalon Antique Fireplaces (on Kirkdale, Sydenham). John just replaced our awkwardly-shaped slate hearth and did a wonderful job. They've got an amazing range of antique fireplaces in the shop too. https://avalonantiquefireplaces.co.uk/
  2. Do you mean the Tall Stories production? If so, yes. It was brilliant and my 3 year old loved it too.
  3. Rosie is lovely and very professional, looked after our two cats many times and makes sure they have lots of fuss. [email protected]
  4. Has anyone got any recommendations of where to buy turf from, or anywhere we should avoid? Thanks
  5. Have you tried John Powers? He's got lots of boiler recommendations on the edf. He's moved and replaced our boiler and also replaced/moved radiators for us. I know he does bathrooms as we're thinking of replacing ours soon, so I double checked with him. He's def worth pursuing as the standard of work has been outstanding. His number is 07977 909339
  6. Another recommendation for Elliot. He's, so far, replaced our architraves, built bedroom cupboards and alcove floating shelves. Fantastic workmanship and a pleasure to work with. Before starting any work he chatted with us to understand exactly what we wanted and what was possible. Can't recommend him highly enough!
  7. I used two different tens machines for each labour. One was a Mama Tens, can't remember what the other one was, but they both worked in very similar ways and did a good job. Rather than rent one, I found it cheaper to buy one on the EDF and then resell after you've used it. You can usually pick one up for about ?10-?15 and then you buy new pads on Amazon (about ?8) and poss new batteries (just to be on the safe side). The best advice I received was to attach the tens machine as soon as the contractions start. Hope this helps. Good luck!
  8. Another glowing review for Paul at Scenic Glazing. He's just installed our new composite front door. The standard of work has been excellent. He was quick to repsond to emails, helpful, patient (as we changed the design quite a few times) and answered all of our questions promptly. The standard of the actual installation is very high and would definitely have no problem recommending.
  9. My daughter has been going since she was one year old (she's now 3) and we couldn't be happier. She absolutely loves it there. All the staff work extremely hard. Throughout the year there's lots of events where parents are encouraged to get involved (these range from a non-competitive sports day in the garden, summer BBQ, Christmas show and a yearly outing (last year they went to Chessington)). If you haven't already, I'd arrange a visit as choosing a nursery very much depends on your child, but I can't recommend Pat and her team highly enough.
  10. John Powers is great and very reasonable - there's plenty of recommends for him in the business section of the forum. His contact details are 07977909339 and his website is www.japowers.co.uk
  11. At work each year we do the Kids Out Giving Tree - not local, but they provide Christmas Presents for disadvantaged children in the UK. http://kidsoutgivingtree.org.uk/
  12. Sorry, no suggestions for buying flip flops at this time of year but a top tip on getting rid of a verruca fast. Place electricians tape or duct tape over the verruca for about a week and hey presto! it's gone. I think it works by blocking all light and oxygen from the verrucca (also works on warts) After spending a small fortune on the different gels, creams etc and them having no effect the tape was like a miracle cure.
  13. The Runnymede on Thames in egham is great. They offer a dinner bed, breakfast and spa treatment for about ?350 per couple.
  14. I had SPD in my first pregnancy and was "clicked back" in one session by osteopath John Prescott at the Montserrat Clinic in Putney (020 8780 2727). He told me that one session is absolutely sufficient unless it goes again.
  15. I'm currently using Coman & Co on northcross road for this very same issue. Am exceptionally pleased by the advice and the speed at which my questions have been answered. I found him via recommendations on this forum.
  16. Anyone have any recommendations for supply and installation of Composite Front Doors? Or anyone that we should avoid? Thanks
  17. I'm a big BMF fan. Like others have said, you get out of it what you put in. I'd find it hard to go back to the gym now that I've been to BMF, if you're needing that extra push and being able to mix things up a bit then its def worth giving it a go. I'm of average fitness but you get a mix of abilities attending - from those who haven't done any exercise in years to ultra marathon runners - but the camaraderie amongst everyone is great. It's also quite a lot of fun returning from a work out covered in mud. The social side is ok - there are post-session trips to the pub and cafe on a Sunday as well as more organised events like the Major series.
  18. Yet another shout out for John Powers and his team. He's just fitted and moved a new boiler for us - very good advice, thorough quote (which he was able to give us there and then and was the exact amount we ended up paying) and a quick, professional job. His carpenter also built us a new boiler cupboard. All the guys that came round were professional and friendly and couldn't do enough to help. We'll definitely be using him in the future.
  19. Hi, I'm thinking of having my 1930s internal doors dipped as they've suffered many years of bad paint jobs. Anybody have any recommendations for a dipping company (or ones to avoid)?
  20. Hi Gracie, We've got a four man tent we no longer use, so I'll drop it off tomorrow morning if that's ok?
  21. You could take it to Southwark Refuse Centre just off the Old Kent Road or if you ring the council they might pick it up as part of their bulky waste collection.
  22. Bugaboo replaced ours for free as the buggy was still within warranty. Worth contacting them direct to see if they can help. Their customer service dept was very good.
  23. Hi all, I'm expecting my 2nd in January (my little girl turns 3 at the end of the month). Would love to meet up but not sure I can make the September dates as we're just in the middle of moving. Brissie, great idea about the Facebook page, I'll pm you.
  24. I swear by Bobbi Brown make up (a friend introduced me). If you can get to John Lewis on Oxford Street the girls at the counter there are great. I booked a make up lesson with them (it's "free" if you spend ?20 on make up and takes about 30mins). They weren't pushy with the products, listened to what you wanted to look like and they send you away with the list of things they've used and how to use them - so you can always purchase later rather than take the hit all at once. I love their eye concealer/brightner - it's def the product I can't live without. Good luck.
  25. Hi Tim, We'll keep a look out. Have you contacted Southwark council to see if any cats have been run over? Horrid I know but worth covering all bases. Also, when our cat went missing the lady who found him told us about this website: http://www.animalsearchuk.co.uk/report-a-missing-pet.php Really hope Wilf turns up soon.
