  1. Yes, the police said this is a regular occurrence. I don't know that they are targeting branches with branches close by so much as just trying to see your pin number and using machines where there are other machines nearby (though not necessarily the same branch in this case). And believe me, it was very smooth, like a magic trick. I can't believe someone swiped my card right in front of me! To RockyZool, it was a man and a woman, darker skinned. He is a bit of a blur unfortunately, but he was about 5'6" with short dark brown hair with a stocky build. She had a pony tail with dark hair, big round sunglasses and a green wallet in her hand.
  2. I just had my bank card stolen at the HSBC cash machine on Lordship Lane about an hour ago. It was a team of 2 people, one man and one woman, who were working together. Others may be aware of this scam, but if not they are looking for your pin number and then fool you into thinking (or try to anyway) that the machine ate your card. I called the police and made a report and called my husband asap (called my husband quickly before phoning the police). Within in 2 minutes of calling my husband and having the card canceled they had already taken out a large sum of money right on the next block at the post office cash machine. Please cover your pin number and be very aware of people around you! I knew he took it though he was trying to tell me the machine took it. He had a brochure folded in his hand that he slipped it into, I tried to grab his hand and feel for the card to get it back, but of course he cussed me out for doing that and the woman tried to distract me saying he was just trying to help and that the machine took her card too. So please be aware!
  3. I just wanted to recommend our electrician, Mark. He is very nice, reliable, and does a great job for a fair price. He's helped us with things around the house 3 times. If you're looking for an electrician, I recommend his services. You can ring him on 07547031593.
  4. I'm interested in having custom curtains made for one window. I have the fabric and am now looking for someone to make them for me. Just 2 simple panels, nothing fancy. Please let me know if you sew custom curtains and send me a PM regarding coming to have a look to measure, etc. Thanks, Leigh
  5. We had ours done at Shot by the Sheriff on Northcross Rd. Fast and easy. Leigh
  6. Can anyone recommend a lighting store near East Dulwich or surrounding neighborhoods? I'm looking for a store that concentrates on lighting fixtures, equipment, lighting bits etc. I've been to DIY stores to find what I need... bayonet fittings and certain cording but haven't been able to get what I need. Though I've found many online lighting shops, I need one fairly local to bring in my light fixture. Thank you!
  7. I have 8 people on the list to come next week, so unfortunately I won't be able to accomodate more! So if you were not at the first meeting and haven't yet replied, I'm sorry but I don't think more people will fit comfortably with babies and buggies in tow! But if you would like to be a part of the group, please still send your email address via PM and we will figure out how we might be able to accomodate everyone (having meet-ups on separate days or in a bigger venue possibly). Or some of us could meet in pairs or smaller groups too. Leigh
  8. Hi everyone, For those who were able to make it, had our first crafty meet-up and had a lovely time. The next one will be next week, Tuesday, 22 Jan, 10-11:30ish. It will be at my house in East Dulwich. We're going to give crochet a whirl so bring a crochet needle and yarn if you have some (if not, just bring another project you're working on). If you are able to come, send me a PM and I'll reply with my address. If you're not able to make it but want to keep in touch regarding future meet-ups PM me with your email address so we can add it to a private mailing list for this group. We are going to try to meet twice a month, alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays at various people's homes for now and see how things develop. Looking forward to next week! Leigh
  9. Thanks for sharing your blog link! I love your quilts! I do basic sewing, but I'd also like to learn to make a quilt. This is my blog where I also post some things I make. www.foundnowhome.blogspot.com. Leigh
  10. I'm out of town till 28 Dec. but happy to meet up anytime after that. :)
  11. I just logged in to make a post to see if anyone wanted to start a craft group when I saw this thread! Count me in too :) I do basic sewing and knitting and love crafts in general. I have 2 children, one is 4 years old and one is 4 months old. My schedule is flexible. Ideally I was hoping to meet with others when the little ones are not around as it's hard to do crafty things with them in tow! But I'd be happy to try and to just meet other women with similar interests. Leigh
  12. We're interested in going apple picking soon and wondered if anyone can recommend an apple farm that we could get to by train from ED fairly easily (don't mind a bus or short taxi ride if needed). I found this list on Time Out but still wanted to see if there are any suggestions of something fairly close. http://www.timeout.com/london/restaurants/features/10600/Londons_Best_Pick_Your_Own_Farms.html
  13. Last time I just listened for American accents! I have short brown hair and will have a red bugaboo buggy with baby in tow and an almost 4 year old running around. I may recognize a few people, so lets just meet outside the cafe where the kids usually run around and I think we'll find each other :)
  14. I could meet up on Friday as well. Should we meet at Peckham Rye cafe again? Maybe around 10am, does that work for others? If not, lets see what time and place works best. Leigh
  15. We're up for meeting at 2pm on Friday in the cafe :)
  16. Friday is good for us, but the weather forecast is not looking so great. Can anyone think of any indoor fun? Today we're going to the Dulwich Library "bear picnic." It's from 10:30-12 in the library garden (in the back). The leaflet says there will be singing, crafts, stories, and a bear hunt. It also says to bring a teddy bear and a food item. If anyone would like to try to meet up with us, send me a message :) Leigh
  17. Sounds great to me! I was going to suggest the same, a Friday meet-up :) I vote for sooner than later, so the 20th would be my pick. And I'd be happy with either park cafe. Maybe 11am? What do others think of that time? I was thinking some moms might have to get back for kids to nap after lunch. Looking forward to meeting lots of moms and kids!
  18. My baby is due August 20th. Hope yours arrives soon! I would love to meet and also meet your friend. I will send you a PM.
  19. Our family is new to East Dulwich (though we've lived in London 2 years) and looking forward to meeting new people. We're happy to meet people of all backgrounds, but I was curious if there happen to be any American expat moms out there who might want to meet? We're originally from Atlanta, GA but lived in San Francisco for 4 years before moving to London. I'm a full-time mom with a 3.5 year old and one on the way. Our daughter would also love to meet some new little friends. :)
  20. Alieh, my daughter loves to look for bugs with her bug catcher so I'm sure she'd also like looking for sticks and treasures in the woods. Maybe we could meet up with your nanny and kids next week? Wednesday would be good for us, if the weather is nice. We could meet in the park. And we'd be happy to meet up with any other 3-4 year old kids as well to try to get a little activity playgroup going. And an art class for this age group would be great too. Our daughter will take Stephanie's summer camp class later this month, so maybe I'll ask her then.
  21. I was thinking, since others have found it hard to find activities specific to 3-4 year olds, I'd be happy to start a playgroup of some sort, maybe with some structured activities or a theme. And I'd be happy to host. Just let me know if anyone is interested :)
  22. I accidentally put this in the wrong section, sorry! I don't know how to move it.
  23. We've just moved to East Dulwich and I've been happy to find EDtots for activities. I've taken my 3.5 year old daughter to a few of the drop-in groups, which were great, but most of the little attendees were 2 and under (though these were for 5 and under drop-in groups). I was wondering if anyone can offer suggestions for group activities for a 3-4 year old, where there are likely to be many others in that age group? We don't have a car, so I'd like to stay fairly close to East Dulwich. Thanks for any suggestions!
  24. Thanks for the replies, I will look into these other schools as well :)
