SE London?s Biggest Arts & Culture Spectacular There are only four days until the sixth annual Sydenham Arts Festival, which runs for 16 days and features some of the best in music, theatre, comedy and spoken word. Don?t miss Honest, DC Moore?s ?mordantly funny? (The Guardian) play which will take you on a journey across London exploring the lies we tell ourselves and each other. Four performances, one with a post-show talk (suitable for 16+), Sunday 6 July to Friday 11 July. Eavesdrop on imaginary lives between Crystal Palace to Sainsburys Bell Green and back with the 202x12: Theatre on a Bus Sunday 13 July 2-5pm. Help celebrate new writing with Stage Write: Playwriting Showcase, on Monday 14 July, where previously shortlisted scripts, that have been developed under guidance by an experienced script writer, are presented to an audience. If you fancy something very different - a mix of stand-up, storytelling and physical theatre for example, make sure you get tickets for Ros Parker?s one-woman cabaret-style Wonky Shonky Show on Tuesday 15 July and Friday 18 July. Our Edinburgh Festival Previews once again feature some of Britain?s top comics - Holly Walsh (various BBC shows including Mock the Week and the Now Show) and Lucy Porter (?fizzing...one-liners? - The Herald) on Sunday 6 July. Patrick Monahan (Show Me the Funny winner) and Tom Craine (BBC 3?s Good News star) on Sunday 13 July and Joey Page (?abstract comedy? - The Observer) and Paul F Taylor (winner of New Act of The Year Competition 2013) on Sunday 20 July. And travel back to 1915 with Till the Boys Come Home community musical in four parts about World War One on Sunday, July 6, Saturday July 12, Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 July and Saturday 19 July - all tickets free.   2. Sydenham Arts Festival 2013 is now under way with some of the 90 plus events selling out fast! There are still lots of shows and workshops to choose from this week from award-winning poet Blake Morrison to 50 of London's top orchestral players bringing the music of 2001 and Star Wars to young audiences. Tonight, bathe in the poetry of music with Full Fathom Five, at St Bart's Church, or head down to the Hob Forest Hill for some theatre with Through the Hourglass. Tomorrow, get your light sabers ready for an evening of Space Adventures with Sydenham Sinfonia , at St Bart's church or help industry critics choose from some of the hottest up-and-coming acts at The Hob, Forest Hill, with Sydenham Unsigned. Author, journalist and poet Blake Morrison will also be discussing his life and work at Sydenham School. On Thursday, filmbuffs should head to the Golden Lion, Sydenham, to a celebration of the best British short films from the past year, or get your dancing feet ready for an evening of Irish Music at St Christopher's Hospice. Heat 2 of the comedy competition So You Think You're Funny? is also at the Hob. On Friday singer Alex Carter presents her musical heroines, including Peggy Lee and Eartha Kit, at the Hob while Dick Vaughan ("One of the five or six great voices of our time" - John Peel) brings some great folk music to Tudor Livesey Hall. Saturday and Sunday's events include children's theatre with the strory-telling spider Anansi and his Web of Stories, a Salsa workshop and Edinburgh Festival Preview 2 at the Hob. The fabulous Artists' Trail, with more than 200 local artists show-casing their work in their homes, studios and other venues in and around SE26, also continues its second weekend.   3. Once again the festival has lined up a list of high calibre events in locations in and around SE26, including a Visual Arts Trail, featuring over 100 artists. Highlights include Arts in the Park/Family Fun Day on Sunday 1 July, headlined by singer songwriter Randolph Matthews, who draws on soul greats and Neo African rhythms to create surprising and original work. There will also be free arts activities and animation workshops, theatre and puppetry, as well as a funfair and food stalls offering food from around the world. The festival also features Sydenham-based alternative folk singer Charlene Soraia, who hit the No.1 spot on the i-Tunes chart with ?Wherever You Will Go? (also used on the Twinings Tea advert) an open-air production of The Jungle Book (3-8 July), a ?Battle of the Bards? playwriting competition and Word Explosion, a family-friendly literary festival headlined by Liverpool poet Roger McGough. Along with dance, poetry and playwriting workshops, music events from classical to jazz and more, discovering the arts on your doorstep could never have been easier.
