  1. I'm constantly amazed by the lack of even the most basic of social graces of some of my neighbours. In the same way some have varying tolerances some have a perverse view of what is socially acceptable.
  2. This appears to be a regular occurrence. There are various threads on the forum detailing the same. I even asked in there about it when I was considering joining. Predictably they denied all knowledge.
  3. I will never understand some people's perception of acceptable behaviour. It's a difficult balance in London. In one respect you should expect to feel the existence of others simply due to proximity. This does not give a free licence to all to lack even the most basic form of social consideration however. Where abouts in ED are you may I ask?
  4. I came home around midnight to dunstans road. Saw a police car on Goodrich near the school and then a man in a white van with a large board of wood on dunstans. I presume these are related to the events described.
  5. What a horrific experience. What did they look like?
  6. The thread on the EDT planning application for B&B facilities has prompted me to ask about the rather peculiar looking East Dulwich Hotel on Upland Road. Does anyone know anything about it? It doesn't appear to satisfy, from the outside at least, the basic tenets of an inviting hotel.
  7. Very droll Zeb, a most impressive whimsical take on Guardianesque prose. In short, why do people insist on resisting geo-social advancements where they are so clearly and unmistakeably positive. My answer, jealously (where the root of that 'I'm so hard dun my gov' attitude, stems from a belief the state should have done more to help, rather than the individual). I hear the Tooting Popular Front are still recruiting should you need to vent further, and fruitlessly, with fellow comrades. Cue, D grade A Level Politics type responses. (Squirrel, a shame indeed, I agree) And yes, this post too, I would absolutely class as...'very droll'.
  8. Valerie, Have a look in the Wanted section. A company in se15 has just this second posted a request for an office administrator. Good luck.
  9. Fairly curious response there Santerme. Not entire surely that my hope for ED to stay on its current course of balancing gentrification whilst enhancing its a truly independent feel, should be quite such an abhorrent concept for you. Replacing of filthy fried chicken shops, shabby supermarkets and downbeat pubs by rather more savoury establishments is a positive for all current and prospective residents. Though I'm sure this would be construed by you as evidence of my painfully desperate social climbing faux snobbery, frankly, ED is fast becoming so very popular and successful exactly because it stands as an island set apart from its less than inspiring and desirable (not to mention less safe) immediate environs. Standing ready to receive a vociferous response.
  10. All, I am about to buy my first property and am buying it in ED. I have read lots about ED being the destination for the Clapham Exodus. Having lived n clapham, I do hope this isn't the case. I was keen to take your thoughts on how ED has progressed over the last 10 years, but was particularly keen to take views on what we should ED to be like a further 10 years from now. Will it be able to stave off a McDonalds and continue to function without a bloody Primark, Tk Maxx, KFC etc. In short will ED be able to retain its charm while at the same time continue to rise in terms of value and stock. Over to you.
  11. Im about to move to East Dulwich and our solicitors have informed us that our property is highly likely to be in an area of potential chancel liability. Has anyone here ever had to payout a contribution to the Church of England as a result of this in this area? It clearly goes without saying that I find it quite unbelievable that in 2012 we are subject to such draconian and outdated tax laws. Anyway, your insights would be hugely appreciated. Thanks.
  12. I have a picture of them from this morning but my iPad won't let me attach it to a post...
  13. Here we are: http://www.musicpilgrimages.com/interest/index.php?alias=death_of_a_rock_legend.html 67 Overhill Road
  14. Did you take the plunge and buy? This is my first house purchase so am keen to get as much intel as possible. Also, didn't the lead singer of AC/DC die right by your place in the 1980s?
  15. Thanks for the range of insights. I have to say that the view was one of the main incentives, as was being a little removed from busy roads and high streets. I'm glad that you didn't generally experience anti social behaviour. I did notice that there is a rather enormous housing estate type development (that I now know to be called Dawson Heights). Would you have any info on Dawson Heights and its residents?
  16. Good evening everyone, This is my maiden post on these forums so do forgive me if I inadvertently break any protocols. I am due to move to hillcourt road in the next few months. By way of preparation I would be really interested to hear what people think of both hillcourt and the immediate surrounds/ environs. Mainly keen to hear your thoughts, views, experiences on: - personal safety - friendliness - problems (ie, nuisance kids etc) - infrastructural services (water, waste collection) - property price trends - crime - nice areas, activities, things of local interest Dont hold back on details. Otherwise, hello to all and am hoping to enjoy my time on the forum and Dulwich. RockyZool
