Hi Vladi cut back your Jasmine very hard, or it could pull your trellis down . Give it a feed & water in Spring & it will come back Hi Angelina No, as long as it’s finished fruiting it’s perfectly ok & yes I would recommend painting the cuts , it will stop disease getting in

It’s been a long time since my last gardening tips, I’ve been away running my Retreats in Beautiful Kefalonia & I’ve been ill. But all ok now Well we’ve had a beautiful summer & by the looks of the fabulous colours, we’re in for a spectacular Autumn 🍂 Well, if you look after your gardens properly! So, off we go. Are you all paying attention, then we’ll begin; 1 PRUNING Cut back Buddlejas by at least half, they will grow back with abundance Prune Raspberries back to 6’’ off the ground, prune all fruit trees so the air circulates in the centre of the tree, ensuring the cuts face downward or you treat them with tree paint to avoid disease getting in . Cut espalier trees so all forward & rear facing branches are cut & all side branches are tied in Roses . Cut back all shrub Roses back hard to a bud & with climbers cut all long branches back to the main body of the plant , cutting all dead branches out completely. Take off all leaves with black spot & collect all the leaves off the ground as they are a fungus & just circulate back through the earth Cut back perennials in your borders & cut in half any overgrown herbaceous plants . Free plants 😃 Planting Plant new bulbs for early Spring colours like Daffodils Tulips Hyacinths Aliums & plant colourful Cyclamen with some feed throughout the season . Hellebores or Christmas roses add beautiful colours in shaded areas of your garden & are a good perennial for all gardens . Most colourful to plant & keep out burglars are Pyracanthas this year. They are spectacular this year & add colour as well as safety It’s always good to plant fruit trees, trees & shrubs at this time of year. You are welcome to visit the trade nursery I use with me to help you choose quality plants & trees & a little discount Tidying up Yes, it’s that old subject again! Leaves need to be cleaned off lawns throughout Autumn & Winter. Trees are very clever in that they gather all the toxins from the air put them in the leaves & drop them down to prevent rivals from growing under them including Your Lawns !! So you have to clear them . Sorry But you can leave them on your borders. They break down & give compost to your plants Dig out & pull all weeds you can, they won’t seed & spread them so they come back in Spring Thats it for now. I have two days this week & three next week if you would like any advice maintenance or plants My Son Oli does the Landscaping Get in contact with him on 07549418219 or me Nigel on 07759862191 Please remember to use the other well recommended gardeners on this site HAPPY GARDENING

To keep your tree in good condition; Do not buy your tree too early as it will look very sad by Christmas Day !! Delayed gratitude is a wonderful thing 😄On arrival put your tree outside & take the netting off, cut 1” off the base & give the tree a spray . Then put it in a tree stand that has a water reservoir, fill this each week & turn the lights off give the tree a spray of water Turn on when dry Nordman Platinum Trees non drop 3/4ft £29 4/5 39 5/6. 55 6/7. 75 7/8. 95 8/10. 179 Nordman Gold non drop 3/5ft. £25 5/6. 39 6/7. 55 7/8. 78 8/10. 130 Nordman pot grown 60/80cms. £45 80/100. 49 100/125. 59 Frasers Traditional 120/150. £35 150/175. 49 175/200. 65 200/225. 79 225/250. 95 250/300. 110 Beautiful Pine door rings 10”. £14 12”. 18 16”. 29 Pine Garlands £15 per foot Blue Pine bundles £25 ea bundle Free Delivery to the EDF area & I will be making a donation for Palestinian children this year as my chosen charity. I take full responsibility for this job & would like to say , I do the smaller jobs nowadays & this in no way reflects on the work of Oli & his team at Exterior Design Gardens Bradley was trying to copy the wall on the other side of the path & having built a few walls before, I was confident he could do the job. The wall he built was not good enough & he built another one . It was an improvement but not enough to please Josh Upon request I refunded Josh the cost of the stock bricks, which were more expensive than the last time I bought them . They have gone up considerably recently. I had to pay Bradley £240 for 2 days work & for materials I am sorry Josh feels aggrieved, but we always try to do the best job possible. In this case the customer was not happy. I apologise & reiterate, this is not the work of Oli & his team at Exterior Design Gardens, but mine . I no longer work with Bradley & wish him well. I continue with the ethos of “ doing a good job” Nigel Hawkins

Thank you so much Julie . The main reason we do gardening & landscaping is because of the happiness it gives to our customers, that in turn brings us much happiness. Oli, Aaron & I really enjoyed putting your garden together & the challenges it gave us & especially choosing the plants working together to bring you a garden we hope you will enjoy for many seasons to come I look forward to the colours & textures in the spring, summer & autumn Once again thank you for your kind words & recommendation Nigel 🙏

Thank you so much Joe . It was a pleasure to do & you were a pleasure to work for . I believe Oli has got back to you about doing the front hedge. You?re right we do love the work we do If anyone else would like my son Oli, team & I to Design, build, maintain any aspects of your Gardens give us a call on 07549418219 for free surveys , Designs & ideas . As I have said in my gardening tips this is the best time of year to get gardening work done , simply because you are not using your garden & it creates a beautiful garden for spring, when we are all up to our necks in work . Remember. Only use the well recommended gardeners on this wonderful forum

I would highly recommend Kefalonia . Stunningly beautiful island, much smaller, there fore easier to get around on local buses, regular boat taxis Delightful people running hotels, apartments , restaurants. Big long shallow beach for the kids called Kaminia on the south coast . Plenty of beach resorts on the south coast. I live out there for the summer running retreats which you?re very welcome to visit. I can even sort out accommodation locally at a good price if you like. Everyone comes back to this magical island . Good packages available too

Learning is a gift, especially when pain is your teacher.

The unexamined life is not worth living

Don?t ignore the challenges that you bring into your life. They are for your learning. If you choose to ignore them, be assured, they will keep coming until you learn the lesson you were meant to. Your life is for your growth
-
What?s in front of you is your teacher. Whatever problems you May have in your life, try not to see them as problems, rather that they are trying to teach you, help you to grow, to understand & make changes if that is what is called for.

Asking for help is a strength not a weakness.

My gardening tips are on the business section once a month. Yes, cut your Buddleia back hard & give it some shape, cut back to a bud & do it anytime between now & end of February Mind you, they are very tolerant.

Care about what other people think & you will always be their prisoner

The consciousness in you & the consciousness in me. apparently two; really one, seek unity & that is love.
