  1. I had assorted disposable nappies and really struggled with finding an organisation that would accept them as a donation. The only local place that was willing was Pecan in Peckham (http://www.pecan.org.uk/). It's right next to the Peckham library and they were quick and very efficient.
  2. Take twice as much clothes and nappies as you think you'd need for your child. There is very little space in the toilet for nappy change so have a small supermarket bag where you can decant stuff for 1 change. Sudocreme! Not sure why but altitude and strange food can cause a really sore bum without it. Don't take really small toys as you will be looking for them under each seat and might not find them so a wailing infant is guaranteed. Take a big soft cotton scarf as a stain cover and in flight blanket. Small packets of baby food are great for their novelty factor. I had very little sleep (literally 4 hours in total) as it was impossible to sleep with nearly 2 year old on me.
  3. I bought Cash's name tags from John Lewis as it's cheaper but you need to sew them on. They also make iron on ones: http://jjcash.co.uk/index.php?sec=prod&prod=8&product=iron-on-labels.

  5. Hi, my husband is a kiwi and we would love to meet other families so our son can get to know this part of his heritage. I've just found out that a boy who recently left our nursery went to what they call "Maori club". I would be very interested if there is a local group or a London one. Any suggestions will be very appreciated.
  6. Another recommendation for Niko. He fixed a nasty toilet leak quickly and left everything clean and tidy.
  7. Gina, you probably researched all your transport options but journey planner site doesn't seem to show a lane that goes from Dulwich Woodhouse pub to Sydenham hill station. You can take bus 363 to Wellspark road, then walk down the lane, to the left along the path near the church and Langbourne is just inside the estate.
  8. I've been going through options of music classes for pre-school age children and it just occured to me that my son responds to music in a very physical way, he doesn't sing. I can see that there are ballet classes for young girls and something hip-hop for older kids (?). Does anybody know if there is anything much less specific in terms of music style but which would give children some idea about rythm, mood behind music etc? Or is it what pre-school ballet is like? Thanks in advance.
  9. Sorry, I am using the Family room discussion for that but I hope this board has more traffic. I have a spare ticket for Chamber tots this Friday at 10am in Wigmore Hall. It's for 2-3 year olds for 1 hour which is evenly split between a performance by professional musicians and a workshop where children and their parents make a story with music. Please PM me if interested.
  10. For the journey I take twice the number of clothes I think I need because everything spills, leaks more than I anticipate and also put each nappy into a nappy disposal bag (not tied) because it's much easier not to take a whole changing bag to toilets. Plus I tape a nappy cream to a pack of nappy wipes. It would be a good idea to buy a bag size tube of Savlon and Sudocreme in Boots.
  11. Thank you very much, everybody. It's probably the type of nursery I've been looking at. Montessori schools don't seem to have any cooking facilities.
  12. Hi, I've been looking around nurseries and pre-schools and had this idea that there will be a freshly cooked lunch for children but it looks hardly anybody does it. I just find the thought of 2-3-4 year olds sitting with their lunchboxes quite depressing. It just seems too early to get into the whole "I will eat a sandwich at my desk" mentality. Why is cooking such a big no-no?
  13. We went for volleyball in Earl's court and decided to go to the second game as our toddler just would not sit still for 2+ hours. I packed a new magazine with crayons, small books and a snack. We also went for a run outside the arena. As we arrived when the majority of people had gone through it was utterly painless and quick. The only thing is it's important to pick up your tickets in advance. Poor hubby queued for 2 hours in Olympic village 2 days before.
  14. We are going to Belair park for Ruggerbeez and so far it's been great. One of the reasons I chose them is because it's all happening outdoors so this summer it makes for rather muddy sessions but surely it's half the fun.
  15. I don't think the babies are the main offenders. Toilets nearest to the pool and sandpit were flooded and incredibly filthy (at least yesterday)so very few people brought children to use them anyway. I dread to think what kind of water would be sprayed by the fountains. It is probably not very suitable for a two year old but I was really put off by children's behaviour and how dirty everything was.
